"Let me get this straight," Teni said, crossing her arms as she stared at the most annoying, handsome man in her life. "You want me to pretend to be your wife… for money?"
Dami Alade leaned against the window, calm as ever. "For business."
She scoffed. "So same thing."
He rubbed his temples. "Look, if this deal with the Okonkwos doesn't go through, my board will vote me out. You think I enjoy this?"
"You don't look unhappy," she muttered.
"I'll pay you."
Her ears perked.
"Pay me?"
"Yes. N500,000 every week. For one month. You just have to pretend we're happily married. Attend some dinners. Smile in pictures. No actual... romance." He glanced away, clearly uncomfortable.
Teni blinked. That was more money than she'd seen in her account since NYSC.
"But what happens when it's over?" she asked.
"We annul the marriage quietly. No one needs to know. You walk away rich."
"And if I say no?"
"I tell the world you seduced and trapped me into marriage."
She gasped. "You wouldn't."
"I'm a businessman. I'd ruin myself before letting anyone else do it."
She stared at him, trying to read the cold CEO's expression. And then she said the dumbest thing she'd ever said in her life:
"…Fine. But I have my own rules."
He raised an eyebrow. "Such as?"
"No kissing unless we're in public. No touching unless you ask. And I get my own bathroom."
Dami smirked.
"This is going to be fun."
