Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Seeing the others' eyes turn to the remaining two weapons, Tanaka Haruki stepped forward without hesitation to explain.

"I call this one the Vulcan Cannon. It uses six rotating steel barrels to prevent overheating from repeated firing, which significantly increases the rate of fire.

The bullets are the same caliber as the Vulcan Gun from earlier. Since I couldn't afford too many detonating tags, I only managed to make a hundred rounds.

Just turn this crank here to rotate the barrel, and chakra is needed to trigger the detonation inside each bullet."

After a quick explanation, Tanaka Haruki stepped back again—this time behind 土台 (Tutai).

All of the weapons were made from ordinary steel. Some of the parts were even shaped manually with files, so he couldn't guarantee their durability. He wasn't sure if the cannon could withstand multiple bursts without failing.

For stability's sake, he didn't build it the size of a Gatling gun but instead modeled it after a real Vulcan cannon, like the ones mounted on fighter jets in his past life. It measured about two meters in length and weighed around 300 kilograms, with a specially reinforced ammo bay.

Yeyue, itching to try it out, eagerly stepped forward. After a brief moment of tinkering, he got the hang of it. He rotated the crank to set the barrels spinning while channeling chakra to ignite the detonating tags.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The shots rang out faster and faster until the bursts connected into a continuous stream of explosions.

In just a few seconds, the hundred bullets were spent. The surrounding temperature rose noticeably, and the barrels glowed red-hot—but thankfully, they didn't explode.

"They're gone already?!"

Yeyue looked disappointed. Just as he started to enjoy himself, the ammo ran out. It was such a letdown.

"If you fire it again now, the barrel will probably explode."

土台 said with a wry smile, but he was clearly impressed with the Vulcan Cannon.

There was no need to check the target wall to know how much damage it had done—what really stood out was the rate of fire.

If the accuracy was improved and the bullet materials were strengthened, even someone on the level of a Kage might not survive a sustained barrage.

The more he thought about it, the more terrifying it became: the combination of toy blow darts, fireworks, and exploding tags could evolve into something with horrifying power.

And the most alarming part? The structure was incredibly simple. Its core was just a detonating tag—something that could be mass-produced.

Mass-produced destruction. That's what made this so dangerous.

"Is this just a scaled-up version of the Vulcan Gun?" asked the Third Raikage, his voice calm but filled with intrigue.

His eyes had shifted to the final weapon, which looked similar to the Vulcan Spear but was much bulkier, with a barrel as thick as his arm.

"Yes, Raikage-sama."

Tanaka Haruki nodded, lifting the lone shell. He unscrewed the heavy warhead, which weighed about thirty kilograms, revealing the hollow casing inside.

"This one's a true artillery cannon. The shells are much bigger than bullets, which means they can carry a lot more explosive power. I can even load the warhead with extra detonating tags to cause a secondary explosion. The range should easily exceed ten miles."

He continued enthusiastically, "I've also thought about making pure explosive shells that could be dropped from the air. If we have ninja riding flying beasts, they can launch surprise bombardments on enemy positions. The shells could be filled with steel balls, shrapnel, and more—deadly in every sense."

He gestured toward the smaller models. "The Vulcan Gun, for example, could be miniaturized for close-range combat. We could even develop paired ninjutsu techniques to work with it. It would be effective both in hand-to-hand combat and mid-range engagements."

The shells had room for an astonishing number of detonating tags. If compacted, one shell could probably carry a thousand. Even the warhead alone could carry hundreds.

If he could get access to micro-sealing jutsu—like the kind seen in the Boruto era—he could pack in even more, resulting in exponentially greater power.

Unfortunately, detonating tags were strategic military resources. Their sale was heavily restricted and monitored. A mere academy student like himself could only obtain them in small quantities. The hundred bullets he used today were saved up over several years.

What's more, creating weapons was a dangerous and exacting science. It required detailed calculations and real-world testing. What he had built so far were just prototypes.

Even the Vulcan Gun and Vulcan Cannon had warped after just one use. If this massive cannon were loaded with high-level tags, it would almost certainly blow up in his face.

"You also mentioned you had Class A intelligence to share," said the Third Raikage, now examining the disassembled shell with deep interest.

With the one billion ryo and these three weapons alone, the boy had more than earned his attention. Accepting him as a disciple was now just a formality.

"I can only reveal that information… after you agree to take me as your student."

Tanaka Haruki's eyes gleamed. This was his trump card—a last layer of insurance.

"You little rascal." The Third Raikage chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "Alright then—where did you get the one billion ryo?"

Although he hadn't seen any official records on this kid, it was clear he wasn't from any major ninja clan in the village. Even among the clans, no one could casually pull together a billion ryo in cash.

"That information also comes after you formally accept me."

Haruki stayed firm, his gaze steady. He needed to seal the deal first.

"You really are something else."

The Third Raikage ruffled the boy's white hair, laughing loudly. "Fine! I'll take you as my disciple. Now tell me."

"Your student greets his master!"

Tanaka Haruki bowed deeply, eyes glowing with relief.

Becoming the Raikage's student meant he wouldn't be immediately shipped off to the front lines as cannon fodder. More importantly, he'd gain access to the Raikage's inheritance—things like Lightning Release Armor and Hell Stab.

And, most critically, he'd now have access to high-level ninja resources for his training.

This world placed tremendous importance on bloodlines. Without a strong heritage, you'd often hit a ceiling on chakra volume and affinity.

To become one of the strongest, you either needed a powerful kekkei genkai or the blood of the Ōtsutsuki clan.

But Tanaka Haruki had none of that—and no cheat system either. His only path forward was his mind, his imagination, and creating tools to make up for what he lacked. These weapons weren't just inventions—they were proof of his value.

Now, finally able to relax, he asked cautiously:

"Teacher, have you ever read the Biography of Kato Bin?"

"Kato Bin? He didn't do too well in the Chunin Exams, right?" Yeyue blurted out.

Haruki's face twisted oddly. kanji looked at Yeyue with the same baffled expression.

Realizing he said something strange, Yeyue quickly looked down in embarrassment.

"Kato Bin… Kato? That's a Konoha surname, isn't it?" said the Third Raikage, puzzled.

"I think I've heard of it. There's a Kato family in Konoha, right?"

He rubbed his chin, trying to recall what little he knew of foreign clans.

"The bloodline… shouldn't be confined to one pond," Haruki muttered.

"What's that supposed to mean?" the Raikage asked.

"Wait… you've never read The Sorrow of a Female Knox?"

"Or Why the Ninja World is So Beautiful?"

"How about Carefree Little Rebel Ninja? Kusagi no Ki?"

"Chunin Bai Jie? Mr. Sarutobi, the Concierge?"

"The Naruto Chronicles: Qiong Ming's Journey?"

He rattled off dozens of titles in rapid succession, but the Third Raikage's frown only deepened with each name.

kanji and Yeyue exchanged odd glances, clearly intrigued—and more than a little disturbed.

What exactly was going on in this kid's head?
