"Hiss!"
Ye Liang inhaled sharply through his teeth.
Each pile of bones on this path was dozens of times larger than his body! This meant all these tens of thousands of Yomi Leader corpses had been far more powerful than him while alive!
Ye Liang recalled his previous dream. Outside the palace where Izanagi no Mikoto had killed *his* girlfriend, countless Yomi Leaders had once wandered.
As he gazed at the palace carefully, the scene before him felt eerily familiar.
No way!
It's exactly the same!
"This is actually the palace from my dream!"
"Didn't expect to come here?" Ye Liang felt a tinge of curiosity. He never imagined following this strange squirrel would lead him to this place.
He continued following the squirrel.
At this moment, the squirrel had already stepped onto that terrifying bone path paved with Yomi Leader corpses! Ye Liang hesitantly extended his foot.
He tested it cautiously.
"Let's do this! No way a treasure-seeker backs off when treasures are within reach!" He narrowed his eyes and raced forward alongside the squirrel.
Along the way, he completely ignored the intimidating aura radiating from the surrounding bones!
As long as they didn't harm him, what did their numbers matter!
Soon, he arrived at the palace entrance.
Exactly as he'd seen in his dreams.
The entire palace appeared constructed entirely from gold. At its center stood a pitch-black gate, flanked by densely-packed golden walls.
He stepped forward and wiped at the door seams—pure dust coated them thickly enough to bury fingers!
"Wow, how long has it been since someone came here?"
Ye Liang muttered in amazement as he stood before the entrance.
Just then, the little squirrel jumped from the front steps and tugged at Ye Liang's pants leg, making chirping sounds.
"You want me to go in?" Ye Liang asked it while looking downward.
The little squirrel eagerly nodded.
So this tiny creature could understand human speech!
Gulp!
Ye Liang swallowed hard, clearly showing his nervousness.
He pressed gently against the door. It proved heavier than expected—the moment he applied force, he felt an unimaginable colossal weight pressing down!
But this wouldn't stop him.
With [Ming Body Forging Method] enhancing his physical form, plus the body-forging Taijutsu techniques from [Yomi Forged Fire Art], Ye Liang's strength had reached an incredible level!
He injected all his [Death Qi] into his right hand, then flexed his muscles and gave one mighty shove.
"Crack!"
The door opened!
Beyond revealed nothing but complete darkness. Looking up, he saw nothing inside. However, as soon as the door opened, the little squirrel squeaked excitedly and dashed inside.
"Hey! Don't go in!" Instinctively, Ye Liang quickly followed, only to suddenly realize—the squirrel had vanished!
"What's going on?"
He took one step back, bumping into a wall!
"Where's the door?!"
To his horror, Ye Liang noticed the door behind him had disappeared!
Oh crap!
Inside an abandoned palace without lights or exits, completely alone!
"Oh my god! Little Squirrel! Don't scare me like that!" He whispered nervously, hoping perhaps some other living presence might help ease his tension.
"I'm here!"
Suddenly!
A deep, slightly magnetic male voice answered from the darkness.
"Where are you?"
Ye Liang asked.
His hair shot straight up!
His entire body shivered, as if a woman had brushed against his taut frame!
Oh crap! This room's covered in dust—who could possibly be here?
Screw you!
He fired a Lightning Ball toward the source of the voice. As it exploded, he caught sight of a skeletal figure approaching—one completely stripped of flesh.
The skeleton's jaw clacked noisily. Obviously, this creepy thing had been the one speaking!
Oh crap!
This was seriously ghostly!
Instantly, Ye Liang snapped to full alertness, channeling all his power into launching another Lightning Ball.
This time, he got a clear look.
It was truly just bones—bare, lifeless bones. It moved slowly, advancing only one meter per second. Right now, it was still ten meters away!
Which meant...
In ten seconds, he'd be face-to-face with this skeleton.
Crap!
With absolutely no idea what he was dealing with, Ye Liang frantically hurled Lightning Balls in every direction, sprinting wherever the space seemed safe. In no time, he had already dashed dozens of meters away.
"I guess it didn't follow me anymore!"
Looking behind him, there was indeed no sign of the skeleton.
Now he stepped into an even darker chamber—pitch black and full of shadows!
The palace was huge.
He could tell he was still inside the grand hall, but this sure as hell wasn't the entrance. There were many broken bones scattered around. Walking forward in one direction, he found yet another pile of white bones.
But this time, nothing moved.
Gulping audibly, Ye Liang swallowed hard.
Suddenly, he recalled that he could control flames. Gathering some fire essence at his fingertip, the room instantly lit up.
Phew!
The tense atmosphere eased somewhat.
This was a very cramped chamber, roughly twenty square meters in size. Besides the skeletal remains of what must have been a powerful figure—possibly even a Yomi Leader—countless bone fragments littered the floor.
There was only one exit.
Ye Liang surveyed the surroundings when suddenly, beneath the bones, he discovered a yellowed ancient book.
Could this be a legendary lost classic?
Recalling how novels often featured such mysterious encounters, he walked over and pushed aside the remains.
[Shinigami Body]!
That was the name of the book.
Ye Liang placed the tome in his hands and flipped through it briefly. It detailed exactly how to forge a powerful physical body using the flesh of the Yomi Leader.
Compared to the three Yomi Secret Manuals he had previously obtained, they were strikingly similar.
"This seems like a comprehensive version of those three secret manuals."
Ye Liang pondered slightly before reaching his conclusion.
Mikamitsu Shirabe's secret techniques had clearly been adapted from this [Shinigami Body] manual!
What incredible luck!
He had actually stumbled upon the original version!
Ye Liang felt genuinely delighted.
So thrilled was he that he didn't even notice when a pair of bony hands reached for his throat. Only when he touched his neck did he feel a sudden increase in pressure!
Damn!
This damn thing came alive!
Ye Liang immediately struggled against the grasping skeleton. Gritting his teeth, he twisted hard, snapping off the skeleton's fingers with a crack. With another forceful tug, he ripped off the entire wrist.
At that moment, the bone creature, feeling around with its muscle-less jaws, lunged directly at Ye Liang's neck.
Ye Liang was already on guard.
With a sudden backward leap, he seized the opening to deliver a fierce slap to the White Bone!
Crack!
The latter's head was knocked off!
Ye Liang quickly tucked the secret manual into his robe. He could already hear footsteps outside.
Yeah right, he wasn't buying that this cursed place was uninhabited for a second!
He hurried out of the room.
The noises grew louder. Using the faint glow of his heartfire at his fingertip, Ye Liang caught sight of the distant scene—a horde of nasty critters heading toward him, most likely drawn by the earlier commotion.
His first instinct was to bolt.
Just then!
A squirrel's chirp suddenly came from the opposite door!
"Jijiji!" The little critter greeted Ye Liang sneakily, waving its tiny inch-long hand as if urging him to come over quickly.
