Chapter 38 - The Dragon That Broke

CTS TIME: RE250.08.28 – 9:00 AM

LOCATION: THE GRAND ARENA

The Grand Arena of Exohorizon trembled under the weight of pure, immeasurable energy.

Millions of spectators from countless galaxies and universes had gathered—filling the colossal arena to its maximum capacity. Every seat, gallery, and high-altitude viewing port overflowed with people, all desperate to witness the most anticipated battle in Diamond Championship history.

Above the arena, the Diamond Trophy floated like a divine artifact—radiant, enormous, and forged from pure cosmic stardust. Beside it, 1 million star credits hovered in transparent casings, reflecting the glow of the fiery star-fireworks detonating in the heavens.

But despite the spectacle—everyone knew.

This was not a battle for glory.

This was not a battle for wealth.

This was a battle to decide whose will would shatter first.

The Deafening Announcement

The first commentator's voice erupted across the stadium, shaking the very walls.

"AFTER MANY DAYS OF MERCILESS BATTLES! AFTER LEGENDS ROSE AND FELL! WE HAVE FINALLY ARRIVED AT THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN—THE GRAND FINALS!"

The crowd exploded in raw energy, their cheers echoing like a monstrous tidal wave. Across the arena, spectators from different planets screamed in excitement, waiting to witness history unfold.

The second commentator instantly followed.

"TODAY! WE WILL WITNESS TWO CHAMPIONS COLLIDE IN A BATTLE OF PURE DESTRUCTION! TWO TITANS—BUT ONLY ONE WILL REMAIN STANDING!"

The arena shook again as the roar of millions intensified.

The Guest of Honor – Xander Starcrest

The first commentator roared once more.

"AND NOW! LET US ALL RISE AND HONOR OUR ESTEEMED GUEST—THE SUPREME RULER OF UNIVERSE 07A—LORD XANDER STARCREST!"

All eyes turned toward the VIP Port, a heavily secured transparent platform floating high above the arena.

There sat Xander Starcrest, his long silver hair flowing like starlight, his royal cloak draped over his shoulders. Beside him sat his son, Mainak Starcrest, quietly watching the battlefield.

Xander rose, his voice calm but piercing.

"Two warriors now stand before us. One of them will ascend today. The other will fall. Fight with honor. And let the universe remember your names."

The crowd's energy erupted into chaos. Starlight fireworks exploded, showering the stadium in crimson and gold.

But Xander's gaze never turned toward the crowd.

It was locked onto Blaze and Tenebris.

"I have a terrible feeling about today's battle." Xander thought.

"Something catastrophic is about to happen."

Serena's Growing Anxiety

In the middle row of the audience, Serena sat alongside Jasper, Rose, Bolt, Dante, and Talon.

Her body was still sore from last night, but she didn't care.

Her entire mind and soul were fixated on Blaze.

Her crimson eyes trembled as she stared down at him.

"Please win, Blaze. Please… you promised me you would come back after the finals."

Jasper noticed her subtle trembling.

"Hey… don't worry. Blaze is unbeatable. He'll destroy Tenebris and walk back here smiling at you."

Serena forced a weak smile, but her heart screamed in silent terror.

"Then why do I feel like something horrible is about to happen?"

The Arrival of Tenebris Thron

The first commentator's voice thundered once more.

"AND NOW… FROM THE RIGHT CORNER! THE ONE WHO SHOCKED THE UNIVERSE WITH HIS COLD DESTRUCTION—THE WIELDER OF PRIME APOCALYPSE—TENEBRIS THRON!"

The arena went WILD.

The energy turned suffocating as Tenebris Thron emerged from the shadows of the entrance gate.

He walked slowly, deliberately, his towering figure radiating absolute darkness. His black trench coat trailed behind him like a living shadow, and his lifeless gaze never shifted—fixed directly on Blaze.

In his right hand, he carried Prime Apocalypse.

The sword dripped with void energy, humming with an aura strong enough to collapse stars.

But behind Tenebris—something far worse emerged.

Prime Apocalypse – The Dragon of Annihilation.

A colossal, abyss-black dragon whose very presence distorted reality.

Its six burning purple eyes radiated death. Its venomous wings oozed with apocalyptic energy.

No one but Bladers could see it.

Only Blaze, Tenebris, Serena, Jasper, Dante, and Talon could see the dragons looming behind them.

Tenebris smirked coldly.

"Today, Blaze… I will break you."

The Arrival of Blaze Deathbringer

The commentator's voice roared again.

"AND NOW! FROM THE LEFT CORNER! THE UNDEFEATED CHAMPION OF PURE DESTRUCTION! THE WIELDER OF VENOM DEVOLOS—BLAZE DEATHBRINGER!"

The crowd erupted like a dying star.

"BLAZE! BLAZE! BLAZE!"

Blaze walked forward, his confidence unshaken. His eyes burned with absolute determination. His sword, Venom Devolos, vibrated on his back, radiating immeasurable destructive energy.

"I promised you, Serena. I will win this match. I will come back to you." Blaze thought.

And behind him… the beast emerged.

Venom Devolos – The Dragon of Destruction.

A monstrous, crimson-scaled dragon with venom dripping from its fangs.

Its six glowing eyes radiated primordial rage.

Its wings spread wide, casting a shadow over the battlefield.

But then, Devolos whispered.

"Today, I will break you, Blaze. I will devour you."

Blaze didn't hear it.

But Serena did.

Her crimson eyes widened in silent horror as she saw Devolos's energy shift—turning into something far more sinister.

"Something's wrong… why does Devolos look like he's turning against Blaze?"

The Battlefield Materializes

The ground rumbled.

The arena's mechanical core activated, summoning a vast rocky terrain filled with canyons, rivers, and jagged cliffs.

The Yellow Planetary Barrier—capable of withstanding a planetary-level explosion—surrounded the battlefield.

The commentator declared.

"THIS BARRIER WILL PROTECT THE AUDIENCE FROM THE MASSIVE DESTRUCTIVE POWER ABOUT TO UNFOLD!"

The Final Glare Before Destruction

Blaze and Tenebris stood face to face.

The air between them vibrated with killing intent.

Behind them, Devolos and Apocalypse snarled—promising absolute carnage.

Blaze tightened his grip on Venom Devolos.

"I've been waiting for this moment. I will burst your Apocalypse."

Tenebris chuckled darkly.

"You think you can handle me, Deathbringer? Our battle will be legendary."

Blaze gritted his teeth.

"I don't break. I destroy."

Tenebris's smile widened.

"Let's see who breaks first."

The battle for survival had begun.

The battlefield now felt like the edge of the apocalypse.

The air was thick, suffocating, vibrating with incomprehensible destructive energy. The crowd, once deafening with excitement, had fallen into an eerie silence. The sheer pressure radiating from Blaze and Tenebris was unlike anything the universe had ever witnessed.

Above them, the Yellow Barrier groaned, its surface already webbing with cracks—something that should have been impossible.

Hovering mid-air on a circular hoverboard, the referee's hands trembled. He could feel it—the sheer, terrifying power emanating from the two warriors. His voice cracked as he activated his mic.

"Final Match—The Grand Finals! The rules are simple."

His words echoed across the now-hushed stadium.

- One point for disarming your opponent's blade.

- Two points for bursting your opponent's blade—separating it from its hilt.

- First to reach two points… wins.

He swallowed hard, glancing at both warriors. His gut twisted, his instincts screaming at him.

"Something catastrophic is about to happen."

He exhaled, gripping the mic. "May the cosmos have mercy on us."

The Rise of Monsters

Blaze's body was no longer his own.

The moment he stepped forward, flames erupted around him—crimson, violent, untamed. His pupils burned like twin stars of destruction, his breathing heavy, raw, inhuman. His blade, Venom Devolos, pulsed with monstrous energy, venom dripping from its jagged edges. The air distorted around him, rippling like space itself was rejecting his presence.

Behind him, the true nightmare awakened.

Venom Devolos—The Dragon of Destruction.

A colossal beast, six-eyed, its scales burning with a dark red glow. Black venom dripped from its elongated fangs, its wings stretched wide, oozing toxic mist. Its monstrous gaze locked onto Tenebris, and behind that gaze was a silent promise.

"I will kill you… or I will break my wielder trying."

On the other side, Tenebris remained motionless. His eyes betrayed nothing—no fear, no doubt, only cold determination. His blade, Prime Apocalypse, trembled violently in his grip, reacting to the presence of its greatest enemy.

Then the sword spoke.

"Devolos is here… my ancient rival."

Tenebris frowned. "Rival?"

A deep, chilling laughter rumbled from the sword.

"I've tried to destroy him before… but he always slipped through my grasp. Today… we will annihilate him completely."

A slow, wicked grin spread across Tenebris' lips.

"Then I'll make sure you get what you want."

Behind him, the true embodiment of annihilation materialized.

Prime Apocalypse—The Dragon of Annihilation.

A god of destruction, its black, void-ridden body loomed over the battlefield. Six glowing purple eyes burned with an insatiable hunger. It stepped forward, whispering in a voice only its wielder could hear.

"I will tear Devolos apart. And I will devour Blaze along with him."

A Pre-Battle Realization

Unnoticed by Blaze, his own sword whispered back.

"I will break myself today… so I can devour Apocalypse next time."

Venom Devolos knew this battle would not end in victory. It had already made its decision.

"If I die now, I will corrupt Blaze completely… and through his hatred, I will return."

Blaze had no idea what his own dragon was planning.

The Battlefield Trembles

The referee's voice cracked as he gave the final command.

"Now take positions!"

Blaze's grip tightened around his blade, his body trembling, his rage spiraling into something uncontrollable.

Tenebris remained eerily composed, knowing exactly what awaited him.

The ground beneath them cracked from the sheer force of their colliding auras. The Yellow Barrier visibly shook, barely able to contain the destruction about to unfold.

The stadium collectively held its breath.

The referee raised his hand.

"Three…!"

Blaze's flames roared, licking at the sky. Tenebris' void energy swallowed the battlefield, consuming everything in its reach.

"Two…!!"

The dragons lunged toward each other—silent, unseen forces clashing in a battle of their own.

Both of them desperate to kill.

"One…!!"

The moment the final number left the referee's lips, both champions exploded forward.

The sheer force of their launch ripped the earth apart. Blaze's feet incinerated the ground beneath him, while Tenebris' void energy left a trail of absolute nothingness.

Their swords met mid-air.

And the impact was apocalyptic.

A planetary-level shockwave detonated across the battlefield.

Rivers evaporated instantly.

Mountains disintegrated into dust.

The sky itself darkened, as if afraid of what was unfolding below.

The Yellow Barrier groaned violently, massive cracks splintering across its surface.

Blaze and Tenebris moved faster than sound itself, their swords colliding in a relentless blur of destruction. Each clash of their blades sent thousands of shockwaves, each one powerful enough to level entire cities.

Blaze roared, his blade igniting.

"Devolos! Flame Saber!"

A wave of fire the size of a continent erupted from his sword, racing toward Tenebris with violent intensity.

Tenebris didn't flinch. He simply smirked.

"Fool."

He raised his sword.

"Apocalypse!! Omega Blast!!"

Slamming his blade into the ground, a wave of absolute void energy surged outward.

The two attacks collided—

And the battlefield ceased to exist.

A deafening explosion tore through the arena.

Mountains turned to dust.

The very foundation of the battlefield shattered like glass.

For a moment, reality itself seemed to flicker.

Flame jumped to his feet, fists clenched. "BLAZE!! DESTROY HIM!!"

Rose's voice cracked. "DON'T GIVE UP!!"

Dante's fists shook. "YOU PROMISED US, BLAZE!! DON'T YOU DARE BREAK!!"

Jasper slammed his hands against the railing. "FIGHT LIKE HELL, BLAZE!!"

Bolt's breath hitched. "TEAR HIM APART!!"

But Serena…

Serena sat frozen.

Her hands clutched her chest, her heart pounding in sheer terror. Tears pooled in her crimson eyes.

"You promised me, Blaze. You promised me you'd come back."

Talon Sees the Horrifying Truth

Among the chaos, one figure remained unnaturally calm.

Talon.

His sharp gaze wasn't locked on the battle, nor on Blaze or Tenebris.

It was locked onto Venom Devolos.

And what he saw horrified him.

His voice was low, quiet, but filled with undeniable dread.

"Wait… why does Devolos look like he's waiting to die?"

The Battlefield Reduced to Ruin

The battlefield was no longer recognizable.

What had once been a colossal, magnificent terrain had been reduced to molten rubble. Entire mountains lay shattered, rivers had evaporated into thick steam, and the sky above was no longer blue—it had transformed into a swirling storm of crimson and violet energy.

The Yellow Barrier, designed to withstand the force of a dying star, was barely holding together. One more impact and it would collapse entirely.

The crowd, once deafening in excitement, had gone deathly silent.

Because what they were witnessing was not a battle.

It was a war between two gods.

The Moment of No Return

Blaze's body was drenched in blood. His arms trembled violently, his muscles barely responding after enduring the sheer force of his attacks. His breathing was ragged, each inhale like fire burning his lungs. His skin was scorched, his face marked by the overwhelming energy constantly erupting from his own blade.

His pupils… were no longer human.

They burned like two collapsing stars.

His grip on Venom Devolos tightened until his knuckles turned white.

"I promised Serena I'd win. I promised her I'd come back."

His lips curled into a snarl. "I CAN'T LOSE."

Then, with a roar that shook the heavens, Blaze raised his sword to the sky.

"VENOM DEVOLOS!!...AWAKEN YOUR TRUE FORM!!"

Instantly, the ground beneath him collapsed, as if the very planet itself was responding to his command. And from behind him… emerged the embodiment of pure destruction.

Venom Devolos Reveals Its Final Form

A colossal crimson-scaled dragon spirit erupted from Blaze's back, its form nearly the size of a mountain. Its six glowing green eyes burned with unfiltered hatred, its molten body pulsating like living lava. Fangs dripped pure chaos, and its wings stretched wide enough to cast entire continents in eternal darkness.

Its roar was not of this world—it was primal, ancient, something that predated time itself.

The entire arena trembled under Devolos' fury.

Devolos tilted its monstrous head back, letting out a howl that sent shockwaves across dimensions.

"I WILL DESTROY YOU, APOCALYPSE!"

Blaze's flames, once a deep crimson, shifted into a pure, blinding white—the hottest form of energy possible. His body crackled with uncontainable power.

His teeth gritted, his voice raw.

"YOU'RE FINISHED, TENEBRIS!!"

The Prime Apocalypse Awakens

But Tenebris… did not falter.

Instead, he grinned.

His pupils had become almost lifeless, void-like. Without hesitation, he raised Prime Apocalypse and stabbed it into the sky.

"PRIME APOCALYPSE!!.....DEVOUR THE DEVOLOS!!"

And then—from the heavens—it descended.

A monstrous, universe-devouring void dragon appeared behind Tenebris, absorbing all surrounding light into its black-hole-like form. A field of absolute nothingness surrounded it, its four glowing crimson eyes seething with apocalyptic hatred.

Its wings—formed from the very essence of the void—distorted reality itself.

The crowd could not see it.

But the Bladers could.

And every single one of them felt a deep, primal fear.

Jasper's voice cracked. "T-That thing…"

Talon's eyes trembled. "It's not just a dragon… it's a force of destruction."

And in the stands, Serena clutched her heart, whispering to herself.

"Blaze… you have to win. Please… you promised."

The Final Clash Begins

The tension in the arena had reached an unbearable limit.

The commentator, his voice barely holding together, attempted to maintain control.

"B-BOTH PLAYERS… HAVE UNLEASHED THEIR DRAGONS! FINAL ROUND—BEGIN!!"

But the moment the words were spoken—

BOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!

Both dragons lunged forward.

And so did their masters.

The ground instantly vaporized beneath their feet. The sky split in half.

The Yellow Barrier screamed in agony, cracks webbing in all directions.

Blaze let out a roar not of this world.

"BLAZING GIGS TEMPEST ATTACK!!"

Tenebris howled in return.

"FINAL APOCALYPTIC BLAST!!"

The two forces collided mid-air.

And the resulting explosion… split the entire battlefield apart.

The Final Strike

Both warriors staggered to their feet, their bodies barely holding together. Blood dripped from their lips, their skin burned, but their eyes…

Still carried the fire to kill.

Blaze moved first.

His sword trembled, vibrating like a living supernova.

"DEVOLOS!! BREAK EVERYTHING!!"

Tenebris smirked, lifting his own sword.

"APOCALYPSE!! ERASE EVERYTHING!!"

Their blades met one final time.

And the resulting shockwave—

- Annihilated the sky.

- Ripped apart what little remained of the battlefield.

- Shattered the Yellow Barrier into fragments.

Their dragons, now locked in a battle of their own, bit, slashed, and tore at each other.

Blaze's scream shook the heavens.

"BREAK HIM!! BREAK APOCALYPSE!!"

Tenebris' voice was a roar of fury.

"KILL DEVOLOS!! RIP HIM APART!!"

The dragons clashed once more.

And then…

The Moment of Horror

CRACK.

Blaze's heart skipped a beat.

His hands trembled.

CRACK. CRACK.

His breath hitched, his pupils dilating.

"…No… No… no no no no no…"

Venom Devolos—the mighty dragon—suddenly stopped fighting.

Its six glowing eyes flickered.

Blood poured from its gaping maw.

Then, before Blaze could react—

SHATTER!!

The dragon broke apart.

And so did his sword.

Venom Devolos' blade splintered into four pieces.

Blaze's voice tore through the arena.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!"

The entire stadium froze.

Jasper screamed. "HIS SWORD… BROKE!!"

Serena shot to her feet, her face pale as death.

"No… Blaze… no… please no…"

Blaze's hands trembled violently, still gripping the hilt of his broken sword.

His knuckles turned white. His pupils shrank.

The Death of Venom Devolos

In Blaze's mind… he heard it.

Devolos' final whisper.

"I'm sorry, Blaze… I chose to break myself. So next time… I can consume you completely."

Blaze's heart stopped.

His breathing ceased.

His mind collapsed.

CRACK!!

Another piece of his blade crumbled into dust.

His voice barely escaped his lips.

"WHY DID YOU BREAK… WHY?!"

Tenebris staggered back, his breath ragged.

Then, slowly, a victorious, cruel smile spread across his face.

"It's over, Deathbringer."

He chuckled darkly.

"Your dragon died before you did."

The Collapse of Blaze

Blaze fell to his knees.

His entire body shook.

His grip on his destroyed sword tightened.

His dragon. His partner.

His will to fight.

All of it… shattered.

Tears fell from his eyes.

"I promised Serena… I'd come back."

"I promised I'd win."

"Why… did you break, Devolos? WHY?!"

The arena was dead silent.
