Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Never Felt So...

2014.

Far East — Changkong City.

The sky rippled like a curtain, dyed in orange-red hues. The tired mid-spring sun quietly sank into the western horizon, warm light fading. A perfect, breathtaking sunset.

But beneath that beauty... was pure hell.

Towering skyscrapers crumbled into ruins. Explosions erupted, flames raging. Amid the chaos, the sharp screams of women tore through the air.

Broken roads were piled with wrecked cars, mangled corpses scattered in all directions — blood, flesh, metal… all mashed together.

Beasts, marked in glowing violet, rampaged. Some were like animals. Some were grotesquely humanoid. They trampled the world beneath their claws.

The air reeked — gunpowder and blood — fusing into a stench so thick it felt like you could see death itself.

In a broken alley beneath collapsed walls, a black-haired young man leaned weakly against the rubble. Barely conscious, barely breathing.

He was around 180 centimeters tall. A blood-stained white shirt hung on his body, sleeves rolled up. Black slacks. Matching canvas shoes.

His short, ink-black hair gleamed faintly. A sharp chin, defined jawline, high-bridged nose, thin lips — refined features.

But most striking were his eyes — glassy, like glazed obsidian in spring sunlight. The darkness under his eyes only deepened the fragility in them.

His skin was pale, sickly. Violet veins crept across his face.

And still… he looked like a being from the heavens.

John , 18 years old. A transmigrator.

To be exact — a transmigrator who was about to die.

He figured the crossing probably happened during college applications. Blinked… and next second, he was in this hellhole.

The world was already in ruins when he arrived.

Before he could even react, his body broke down — like it was rejecting reality itself. Burned out fast. Now here he was.

All he'd managed to do since arriving… was clench his teeth and endure. Pain like being flayed alive — but not a single scream.

He thought about this and pulled the corner of his mouth into a dry, bitter smile. His breath was growing weaker.

And then…

A humanoid monster with twin blades walked by, flanked by giant insect-like beasts.

Its gaze locked onto him.

"..."

John didn't dare breathe. His fading heart skipped a beat.

One second. Two. Three.

Finally, the monster looked away and continued walking.

Maybe luck. Maybe they thought he was one of them.

Either way — he lived.

That one moment confirmed it all.

Deadwalkers. Honkai beasts.

This world… was Honkai.

His dimming eyes lost their final light.

So that was it. That last bit of will keeping him going… it vanished.

Because he knew this place.

Everyone knew — in Honkai's version of Earth, women still had a sliver of hope. Men? Wiped out without a trace.

In this world, what was a male transmigrator?

A dead man walking.

No use trying to resist. Might as well let the Honkai finish it.

So pathetic... If I get another shot, I hope I live a little more brilliantly...

He didn't even have the strength for life-flashing memories. Just… darkness. His eyelids fell shut.

And then—

"Ding—"

Not long after losing consciousness, a crisp, soft chime echoed in the air.

A translucent panel appeared in front of him, glowing with futuristic light.

[System loading. Progress: 1%...]

Then came a sweet, breathless voice, "Made it made it! Hello, host, the Life Simulation System is fully at your—eh!?"

The system froze.

She stared at John , who was more dead than alive, and after a pause — wailed.

"My host! I spent three whole years picking the perfect host! Hic, wuwuwu~!"

Seriously? Just my luck to miss it by a minute?

[System loading. Progress: 3%...]

"Bzzz—"

Suddenly, the panel glitched violently, static flowing across it like a swarm of digital insects.

"Damn it, Morocco pancake code! Stop loading! He's dying and you're still doing a dramatic loading screen?! Start simulating now!"

The system sobbed while yelling.

[System load complete. Starting simulation.]

---

Medieval Europe.

John stood in a dark alley, staring at his fully intact body, then at the bright skies and bustling streets beyond.

He had no idea what expression to wear.

Another life, huh? Came at him like a tornado.

"System, I'm calling you that, okay? So… you were too excited about your promotion to full system status, overslept, and missed my crossing?"

"Y-Yeah… that's about right..."

Her voice grew soft and embarrassed.

To her, she was at fault. Her delay left John near death, forcing an emergency simulation just to keep him alive.

But John didn't see it that way. No transmigrator could survive Honkai erosion without some ridiculous luck.

Even if the system had arrived on time, the result would've been the same.

Right now, he cared more about one thing. "Do I get a newbie gift pack?"

"Yes!" The system perked up instantly. "I prepared so much awesome stuff—it's all right here in—uh?"

Her cheerful voice trailed off as the sound of frantic rummaging filled the air.

It was like a student confidently telling the teacher they did their homework… then realizing they left it at home.

Just listening was enough to make someone sweat.

Finally, she stopped fumbling and spoke with a sob:

"I-I left them on the desk... forgot to bring them in the rush..."

John wiped his face and suddenly burst into laughter.

They were both disasters, huh?

Not that he was particularly forgiving—it's just... the system pulled him into the sim and gave him a second chance. That alone was a huge favor.

He couldn't bring himself to be mad.

Besides, there were unluckier bastards than them both.
