Chapter 11 - Seeking the Truth that Leads to Betrayal

Killian

Killain feels deeply that something is wrong about the boy, the way the mirror showed a figure with regal, glowing red eyes and hands stretched protectively toward Sonny's body.

Killian narrowed his eyes.

He had pondered. What if the boy has a connection with the demons?

He remembers the servant mentioning that both of them came from the demon's palace, and it was strange for an ordinary child with no cultivation to survive in that place.

A child who survived in the forest with unique survival skills, and he treated my injuries with knowledge that no servant child should carry.

Killian walked through the library trying to find information about demons. But every time he looked through books about demons, they talked about their cruelty and their evilness.

But he wasn't sure about it. He didn't detect any demonic cultivation from the boy.

Killian stopped at one section where it mentioned demons with red eyes. He was right. Sonny does carry some connection with demons for demons only have red eyes.

But what is his connection with that man from the mirror?

Then voices echo through behind him. Killian closed the book softly in order not to grab attention, and he stepped away from the location, and he hid in an area between the two shelves when the elders in the righteous sect entered the library.

"Why do you think the Chief Disciple cares about that servant boy whose cultivation is so useless?"

"I don't know."

The other voice replies, "Yeah. But the elders will do something about it. They don't want to lose their precious disciple because of his emotional weakness."

The voices fade in the background. Killian waited for the voices to fade, and they left the library. Killian walked out of the hiding spot, and his heart slightly raced upon hearing what he heard.

What do they mean they're doing to do something about it?

Then another voice enters his mind. Deep and full of authority. "Chief Disciple, Killian. Come to the lotus chamber."

Killian furrowed his brow. He replies deep within his mind with forced calmness and respect, "Yes, elder."

Why are they calling me? It's a place where the disciples' memories would get cleansed and need guidance from the elders. For example, if one of the disciples went through some kind of trauma in the world and she/he can't handle the memories in her/his brain, she/he would face memory erasure.

Killian felt unease about the call and walked to the lotus chamber, which was hidden deep below the sect's main temple.

Many disciples don't have access to it; only high-ranking disciples, like Killian.

When Killian walked closer to the large black gate, his sword in his belt trembled, and he wrapped his hands around it.

He whispered. "Lunaris, what's wrong?"

His sword was shaking like it was sensing something terrible was coming.

The gate opened with a screeching sound that nearly made Killian twitch his eyes, and he looked coldly at the elder man standing before him. "Elder Zhen."

Elder Zhen gave him a frosty expression just like him, and the elder stood straight with a ramrod back, "Come in, we have an important discussion."

Killian narrowed his eyes at the man and entered the room that became colder. Frigid is the word that can describe the room's temperature, and Killian wasn't bothered by the room temperature due to his high cultivation, which protects him.

Elder Zhen walks in front of him with a slight frown in the corner of his lips, and he said, "I notice for the slight few days you hold a slight attachment to the orphan boy."

They walked to the middle of the room. The room was cold and empty, with no windows except for candles flickering everywhere on the walls.

Killian pursed his lips, "He won't interfere with my cultivation."

Elder Zhen narrowed his eyes, the frown increasing the wrinkles in his skin. "It's not certain since you are pursuing a difficult path."

He looked at Killian with hard eyes. "Any kind of emotional attachment will cause you to falter."

"That's why the boy is going to be in my care, and you will remain focused on your cultivation."

Killian narrowed his eyes, "I apologize, Elder, but I'm going to refuse. The boy remains under my care."

Elder Zhen sighed like he was disappointed by Killian's response, "I thought you would say that. I'm sorry, but I have no choice but to do this."

Killian furrowed his brow in confusion until a sharp pain hit his neck. He looked down and saw a long needle that many cultivators used to knock out their enemies.

Killian was stunned and felt betrayed. "What are you doing?"

Elder Zhen, with his hands tucked behind his back, stood back and lifted his hands in the air. Then a couple of young people entered the room with masks on their faces.

They all came to surround Killian, who tried to fight against them, and Killian was useless for the needle was making him weaker and sleepier.

"No. I don't want this."

They grabbed each piece of his clothes and dragged him into the center of the room, surrounded by red lotus flowers.

The red lotus flowers glowed brightly in the dim room, and Killian closed his eyes, falling asleep. The people in the room moved back behind Elder Zhen.

Elder Zhen approached Killian, who was lying on the cold surface floor, and he said in a low, hard voice, "I'm sorry, disciple. But you made it this far with your cultivation, but I won't let your weakness falter you."

Elder Zhen raised his hand in the air, the red lotus flowers all moved into the air, and flew toward Killian's direction and attached themselves to his head, heart, and the rest of his body except for the sword near his waist that continues glowing with a sharp gleam.

The red lotus flower works its abilities on Killian, and Elder Zhen smiled, his wrinkles in his cheeks widening.
