Chapter 3 - The First...

Thud...Splosh...Thud...Splosh

The steps grew closer, the flickering torches casting a looming shadow down the corridor.

I unconsciously held my breath, my eyes drifting to the metal pail in which the blob had stuffed and hidden himself before falling back on the approaching shadow. My heart pounded wildly in my chest, not at all helped by the growing pain in my left arm.

'Here it comes'

I cried out mentally, pressing myself into the corner of the cell, getting as much distance as I could from...whatever the hell it was.

As I caught first glance at it, my mind filled with fascination, curiosity, and an unexplainable dread.

My entire body broke out into cold sweat, as I stood in the corner frozen, even the chittering of rodents seemed to stop, drowned out by the echo of the creature's heavy steps.

Thud...Splosh...Thud...Splosh

It moved sluggishly, its posture was hunched with shoulders falling forward. It was human-like in shape, but huge...like bigger...no..no...almost double my size. Its exterior, a dull and dark metallic shade of grey, and its entire body seemingly made of a grey thick slime.

The viscous slime dripped onto the floor as it walked with its arms hanging in front of it. The slime finding its way back to the creature's legs and fusing back into it.

It had no features, only a dull metallic gleam of slime.

I watched it as it slowly made it's way down the corridor in lumbering thuds, past each cell like a patrol. Occasionally, trying to grab at the endlessly dripping slime from its face using its slimy hands, but to no avail.

It let out groans and moans of varying intensities, the moans sounding rather sorrowful and pained.

Thud... Thud... Th—

It vanished down the corridor, the groaning and moaning echoing in the distance.

I waited a few minutes before cautiously making my way out to the corridor

"What the he-"

"Don't worry, it's gone for now..."

My heart nearly sprang out of my chest as I jumped back nearly tripping over myself, the blob back again and floating in front of me.

"YOU... you..." I mumbled angrily, my heart

pounding.

"Are you trying to get me killed you weird..floating...thingy" I continued angrily

"Doesn't matter to me really" the blob replied

'The little liquid punching bag would've shrugged if he could'

"What the hell was that thing..." I asked, catching my breath.

"Oh... him?"

The blob turned, facing the direction in which the creature had gone, a faint trail of grayish slime left in it's wake.

"Well... I don't know much but we call him, 'The First'."

"Why?" I quickly followed up, curiousity getting the better of me

"Because...well... he was... when all of us arrived, he was already here."

The blob continued, a melancholic thrum emanating from the strings suspended within it.

"Thats weir-...wait..wait"

"What do you mean... all of us?" I asked, confused.

The blob looked at me or atleast I think it did but didn't answer my question, instead turned around abruptly.

"Hey Glint! Grump! Kiddie! You can come out! It's safe now!"

His childish voice rang out, bouncing off the corridor walls.

A slight rustle...

followed by a sploshing sound.

My legs tensed, a shiver running down my spine.

'More blobs...great'.

The distant sounds grew closer, casting shadows on the corridor to my left as something started emerging slowly, seeming rather cautious.

Before I could turn tail and run for my life , colours spilled across the corner of my vision, as I turned my head to view the strange things.

There were three, approaching side by side in unison. The one on the left had a lazy look in its eyes,as though it would fall asleep at the slightest breeze—two translucent yellow orbs glanced at me for a second or so before looked away as if losing interest. It was the colour of dull gold although calling it "gold" was a bit of an insult to all the other gold out there, bits and pieces of broken old silver, gold, and other random stones and jewels were floating within, reflecting light at random angles.

The one in the middle was particularly larger than the other two. It was a deep hue of blue and moved slowly in my direction, its eyes locked onto me the whole time making the atmosphere rather uncomfortable.

The one on the right wasn't even bothered to look, jumping around and getting distracted by every single sound. It was a beautiful pale shade of pink, a blanket of moss resting on its head. As soon as it locked eyes with me, it hopped faster, with newfound enthusiasm.

I turned to the blob floating beside me.

"There's more like you?"

I questioned, my eyes falling back on the approaching trio.

The floating blob bubbled , the strings thrumming lightly within.

"There were...it's just us four now though."

I simply stood there watching them approach, my eyes moving back and forth between the three approaching and the one floating beside me.

"What do i call you guys?, I assume the names you called out before belong to those three, what about you?...what do you call yourself, since you don't remember your name and all."

The blob's glowing blue eyes turned toward me, silent for awhile before his childish voice spoke.

"I dont know..."

It bubbled.

"You can call me the ultimate leader , the being of power or the superior one. There are many choices"

It continued, dead serious.

"Im gonna call you Rusty."

I shrugged, observing the dusty and worn out carpet, beneath me, the rusty bars of the cells and the seemingly endless corridor stretching both ways , the dim illumination of the torches making even the smallest shadows seem alive.

"Superior being"

The blob continued

"No, Rusty."

"Leader"

"Rusty"

"Fine, just call me Great One."

"Rusty"

"STOP..."

"Rusty"

The blob nearly boiled over before a series of soft plip sounds interupted our exchange.

The three approaching slimes now stood directly in front of me , all 3 pairs of glowing eyes fixed on me.

"Hello....Blob..Things.."

I muttered, offering a wave that I could only describe as absolutely retarded, which obviously did nothing to ease the awkwardness of the whole situation.

The three did not seem to like what I said either , from all the bubbling and boiling I could see.

"Plip , Plip , Blup , Splup"

The big blue one continued, his eyes on the floating blob now newly named Rusty by me of course with full consent from the named party.

"Blirp , Slup , Plip"

The deep blue one continued.

"Yes...yes..I know.."

Rusty replied.

"What's it saying?"

I whispered.

"It's saying you don't seem quite right in the head."

Rusty replied instantly, seeming rather pleased.

"That's obviously not what it's saying"

I continued rolling my eyes.

"Yeah, he was actually swearing at you for breaking down the prison bars and making noise, attracting "the first" and nearly getting us all killed"

Rusty spoke followed by a small plip

My face paled.

"I...did that?"

Rusty floated around my head.

"Yes..yes you did."

The dull gold one and the pale pink one bubbled lightly, curious

"They're asking what your name is."

Rusty translated.

"My name...name...I...I..."

I continued , my brain feeling rather fragmented and cloudy.

Rusty shrugged , his slimey body moving up and then down.

"Whatever."

"Anyway, these three are Glint , Grump and Kiddie"

"Guys meet...No-Name"

Rusty continued with a pleasant Blurp.
