✍️ Author's Note:

Holidays have a unique way of drawing families closer, reminding us of the simple joys found in shared laughter and quiet moments together. When we visit new places, we don't merely witness landscapes—we uncover stories, histories, and hidden connections that shape who we are. In this chapter, I wanted to capture the warmth of family bonds, the thrill of exploring Rajaji National Park, and the gentle, fleeting moments that show how every adventure carries a chance to discover something new about the world… and ourselves.

📖 Blurb:

The day at Rajaji National Park is filled with laughter, playful teasing, and unexpected discoveries. Ryu spends a tender morning with her grandmother, uncle, and protective brother Arjun, while Siya Didi shares intriguing insights about the park's history. Later, playful photography, lighthearted banter, and subtle jealous glances weave together friendships, unspoken feelings, and hints of hidden emotions. Amid scenic wildlife and candid family portraits, small secrets start to surface, and Ryu senses this trip will be far more than an ordinary adventure.

let's continue the chapter:

The early sunlight filtered softly through the curtains of the cozy guesthouse, painting the room in warm, golden hues. Ryu sat cross-legged on the floor, her sketchbook balanced carefully in her lap, yet her mind wandered far from the neat pencil strokes she tried to make. Today was special—a trip to Rajaji National Park, a place she had never explored before. Her chest fluttered with a strange mix of excitement and nervous anticipation.

🌿 Ryu's POV – Excitement in the Air

I couldn't sleep all night. My thoughts kept drifting to the day ahead, to the forest, to the whispers of trees and the distant calls of birds. Rajaji National Park made my heart race with excitement. I wanted to explore every corner, to see the tall trees, the deer grazing quietly, or maybe a peacock spreading its feathers in the sunlight. What if I could capture it all in my sketches—every movement, every sound, every smile?

This trip wasn't just about sightseeing. It felt like a chance to step away from my usual worries, to feel light, to laugh freely, and to create memories I could hold onto forever. A small, contented smile curled on my lips as if the adventure had already begun.

Her grandmother sat nearby, humming a gentle Garhwali folk tune, eyes twinkling with warmth.

"Beta, get ready now. Put on your top and pant. The forest won't wait for you!" she said, her voice gentle but firm. "Don't let worries cloud your heart. The forest holds nothing but wonder. Let it remind you of the beauty life offers."

Ryu smiled faintly, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear as she adjusted her top and pant, a sense of excitement mingling with calm.

Her uncle, leaning casually against the doorframe, chuckled.

"Don't forget to take lots of photos, and maybe draw a few sketches, Ryu. Just don't get lost in your own thoughts," he teased lightly.

Grandmother's POV

It had been so many years since we last visited our homeland. Seeing Ryu bustling around, ready in her top and pant, brought a soft smile to my face. The chatter, laughter, and energy of everyone together reminded me how precious these moments are. Sharing joy with family, surrounded by so many people, made my heart feel light. Truly, this was so much fun.

Uncle's POV

Watching Ryu adjust her top and pant, I couldn't help but chuckle. She often got lost in her sketches and thoughts, yet today she seemed genuinely excited. Seeing the family together, the energy buzzing around us, reminded me why trips like these mattered.

Arjun stood nearby, protective and quiet, his gaze sharp but kind.

"Stay safe, Ryu. Don't get too close to anyone you don't fully trust," he spoke softly, concern underlying his calm tone.

Arjun's POV

I just want her to be safe. She's my sist… my cousin. That's all that matters. The forest, the crowd, the excitement—it doesn't matter. As long as she's careful, I can bear the rest.

Ryu's POV

Why does he always say this? Does he think I can't take care of myself?

Ryu nodded, absorbing his words despite a flicker of annoyancein her mind.

She hurriedly adjusted her top and pant again, tucking her hair behind her ear. Her grandmother's gentle hum and encouragement lingered, giving her a quiet sense of reassurance as she prepared for the adventure.

From another corner, Siya Didi's voice chimed in, cheerful and full of knowledge.

"Remember, Rajaji National Park in Uttarakhand, India, was established in 1983 by merging Rajaji, Motichur, and Chilla Wildlife Sanctuaries. It is named after C. Rajagopalachari, India's first and last Governor-General and a key freedom fighter," she said with pride, her smile gentle but informative, as if each word breathed life into the forest they were about to enter.

Ryu's POV

She knows so much… Ravi's sister is incredibly intelligent. No wonder everyone looks up to her.

Ryu nodded, feeling a mix of admiration and anticipation, finishing her preparations and bracing herself to step into the forest with curiosity.

Outside the door, a small group had begun to gather.

Rey stood tall and composed, hands tucked in his pockets, accompanied by his younger siblings—Anika, bubbly and playful, and Aarav, mischievous but kind. His eyes scanned the group with quiet observance.

Then his gaze fell on Ryu. Simple top and pant, hair loose, movements easy and unpretentious—she looked effortlessly tomboyish. Something about the way she carried herself caught his attention, and a subtle, almost imperceptible smile tugged at his lips.

Rey's POV

She wore a simple top and pant, practical and comfortable, not caring for flashy details. Her hair framed her face naturally, slightly tousled. Each gesture, each step, was unforced yet deliberate. In that moment, she looked undeniably like a tomboy—energetic, grounded, and completely at ease. Her stance, relaxed but ready to move, spoke of someone who valued action over adornment, adventure over appearances.

Ryu's POV

I noticed his glance, quick but lingering just enough to make me wonder. Why is he looking at me like that? My cheeks warmed, and I adjusted my top again, trying to appear nonchalant. Yet, there was a small thrill in the way he observed, calm and composed, that made me feel seen in a way I couldn't quite explain.

I stole another glance at Rey from the corner of my eyes, curious if he was really noticing me, a mix of curiosity and something else I didn't yet understand swirling in my chest.

Kabir stepped forward, teasing lightly.

"Hey Ryu, looking all tomboyish today, huh? Planning to climb trees or race the boys?"

Ryu's POV

I blinked, a faint blush rising. Seriously? They can't leave me alone for two seconds… I crossed my arms, trying to look unfazed.

Avyaan chuckled beside him, joining in.

"Yeah, Ryu! Tomboy alert! Watch out for the forest itself!"

Maya laughed, covering her mouth, while Ryu gave a playful glare, hiding a smile. Despite being annoyed, she couldn't help feeling amused at their teasing.

Avyaan stood with his parents, observing the group with a small smile, his calm presence balancing the playful energy. He chatted casually with his siblings, Ishani and Aryan.

"Ishani giggled, "Avi Dada, you always act so mysterious."Aryan smirked, "Maybe that's his charm."

Avyaan laughed softly, the mix of light-heartedness and inner complexity unspoken.

Kabir and Maya continued their playful rivalry.

"Bet you can't take a better photo than me today, Maya," Kabir joked.Maya smirked confidently. "Challenge accepted."

Aakash remained nearby, silent but observant. He glanced at Ryu briefly, a stir of recognition deep in his eyes, though he remained composed.

Arjun's gaze swept over the group, sharp and protective, especially toward Ryu. Her chest tightened slightly. He had always been an important figure in her life, but today, the weight of unspoken connections felt heavier than ever.

The air seemed alive with anticipation. Laughter and gentle breezes mixed together as Ryu hugged her sketchbook closer, letting her grandmother's words, Arjun's caution, and Siya Didi's knowledge swirl together with the sight of everyone around her.

It was the beginning of an adventure—one that would reveal bonds she never knew she had, stir feelings she didn't understand, and uncover secrets waiting just beyond the trees.
