Chapter 5 - School (2)

3rd POV:

As the crowd thickened, Aiden's gossip buddies were just about ready to slip away.

Cause the only thing they kept hearing from every direction was talk about the lunchbox given by Xiao Ning'er and something about an inscription—whatever that meant.

When Aiden casually mentioned it to them, their eyes widened.

If it was connected to someone as popular as Xiao Ning'er, then it had to be something powerful. Or at least, that's what they figured.

Honestly, how had these three survived this long with brains like that?

As the trio turned and began squeezing their way through the crowd, trying to escape the buzz, Aiden suddenly heard someone calling for his name.

He paused, glanced back—here and there, when he someone waving his hands, I squeeze my eyes to look carefully and there standing at the door of his classroom, was Nie Li.

But then Aiden noticed the crowd's eyes shifting from person to person, looking for this Aiden that the gossiped boy is looking for.

Without a second thought, he spun around, with panic in his eyes. "Let's go. Fast. Library," he muttered to his two friends, although shocked, they looked at each other and decided to ignore it as he was their friend and just followed him to the library.

By the time they reached the library—late, out of breath, and thoroughly uninterested in going back—they gave up on finding a seat. Instead, they simply borrowed a copy of the book they needed and agreed to read it at home.

They thanked the librarian for the book and left immediately. The old smiled at them and waved them goodbye.

Honestly that Nie Li kid—What does a person like him calling me out for? And at that huge of a crowd.

Nie Li's POV:

With an expression of shock and disbelief, Nie Li forcefully turned around, looking as if he were about to cry from heartbreak.

As his friends approached, one of them asked about Aiden.

"Do you guys know what his background is?" Nie Li asked, his voice unusually quiet.

"No, why?" Lu Piao replied, wiht a tilt of his head and said "But I do who he is, as je was infamous here".

"Wait, Nie Li how do you not him, we always talk about him since he started attending here a year ago" Du Ze said in disbelief, thinking he may have had a sudden amnesia due to teacher Shen Xiu loud berates.

Although they were his friends, Nie Li still didn't know how to say it in a way that wouldn't reveal his sudden powers. So, with quick thinking, he waved it off.

"Ehhh… he just looked like my cousin."

"Anyways, We should continue our hunting strategy and earn money fast"

Although he thought he dismissed the topic and changes the subject successfully ,Du Ze the minds of the group thinks differently and firmly decides to talk with NIe Li about everything that happen, like the sudden IQ.

As they exited the classroom.

With a wide grin, Lu Piao leaned in. "What do you mean looked? Do you already miss your family so much that you're mistaking random people for your cousin?" He laughed, his expression twisted into a teasing, almost creepy smile.

The laugh throwed Du Ze out of his thoughts and smacked Lu Piao at the back of his head—face planting on the floor.

Then he turned to Nie Li with a comforting tone.

"Don't worry. Break's coming soon. You'll be able to spend some loving time with your family."

While Du Ze probably thought he looked kind and reassuring… Nie Li saw something else entirely.

He saw devil horns, an eerie grin, and Du Ze licking his lips while saying, "Lovingly… hehehehe."

Nie Li stayed silent and just smiled at him—his thoughts thinks differently.

Nie Li calmly walked ahead, hands behind his back, already smiling to himself as he mentally titled today's hunt "Operation: Anger of a thousand horned sheep", knowing full well he was about to throw Du Ze and Lu Piao straight into horned sheep hell.
