Chapter 16 - 16

Soon, Sheriff Yves' officers wrapped up the body of the mutant, Rockslide, and the remaining remains of the Goryeon gang's high-ranking members were also collected as evidence.

The lower-ranking gang members and clerks of the Goryeon gang were in a state of panic, completely unaware of what had happened, or rather, what they should do now that all the Goryeon gang's higher-ups were dead.

Who would pay their wages? And where would they work from now on?

These Goryeon gang members had considered secretly dividing the gang's wealth, but the conference room had been a battlefield, and by the time the commotion died down, Sheriff Yves had already arrived with his men.

Now, it was even worse; the entire Goryeon gang, along with the karate dojo, had been sealed off, and Sheriff Yves' officers politely escorted the wealthy individuals out of the Goryeon gang's underworld.

They couldn't help but be polite, because at this moment, Sheriff Yves himself was nodding and bowing to a middle-aged man.

Sheriff Yves, though called a sheriff, was a mid-to-high-ranking official within the police system, but he was only a Deputy Sheriff, which is the rank of Deputy Police Commissioner.

Standing in front of Sheriff Yves was the precinct chief, holding the rank of Police Commissioner, two ranks higher than Yves, a difference of two golden stars.

This person was already a big shot in the entire New York City police department, and it was unexpected that he would be here today; moreover, Chief Dickinson was Sheriff Yves' boss in the precinct.

However, Sheriff Yves was also somewhat relieved at this moment, knowing that with such a big shot present, at least this matter wouldn't fall solely on him; someone else could share the pressure.

Chief Dickinson's face was also somewhat grim at this time; he had followed his friend to the Goryeon gang's underworld to relax and had not revealed his identity, but he had not expected to encounter such an incident.

"So, a mutant was involved?" After hearing Sheriff Yves' description, Chief Dickinson's expression softened slightly. "Are there any other traces left by other mutants?"

"There were only signs of a struggle at the scene, and no traces of any other mutants," Sheriff Yves replied respectfully; he had no choice, as this was his direct superior.

"So, it seems the killer of the mutant is even more powerful?" Chief Dickinson nodded understandingly. "Alright, I understand this matter. Seal off the entire karate dojo and the Goryeon gang, and take the mutant's body back to the precinct. I'll contact the specialized disposal personnel!"

"Chief, what about the Goryeon gang's wealth…" Sheriff Yves looked around and asked in a low voice.

"What? Do I still need to teach you? Use offshore channels; don't let the tax bureau find any traces." Chief Dickinson waved his hand and turned to leave.

Sheriff Yves breathed a sigh of relief, motioned for his officers to take Rockslide's body away, then, after clearing out the entire Goryeon gang and karate dojo, sealed off the area and returned to the precinct with his men.

It must be said that Chief Dickinson's speed was truly fast; Sheriff Yves had just arrived at the precinct when a group of fully armed soldiers arrived, surrounding the precinct.

"Who are you…?" Sheriff Yves looked at the fully armed soldiers and, for a moment, felt they were making a mountain out of a molehill; it was just a mutant's body, was it really necessary to be so exaggerated?

"We are from General William Stryker's Special Operations Team!" The leading lieutenant stepped forward, pointing to the tightly wrapped mutant's body. "We are here on orders to take custody of the mutant's body!"

"Oh, alright." Sheriff Yves felt the aura emanating from the other party and subconsciously nodded, stepping aside and watching two soldiers walk forward to lift Rockslide's remains, then their bodies sank.

A hint of a smile appeared in Sheriff Yves' heart; Rockslide was a mutant made entirely of rock, so his body's weight was naturally considerable. At the time, it took six officers together to lift Rockslide's body onto the police car.

Even if a soldier's physical fitness was superior to an officer's, their strength was not necessarily comparable to three officers.

The lieutenant glanced at the soldiers behind him, and two more came forward, together lifting Rockslide's body into the military vehicle.

"Stop!" At this moment, a man in a black suit, with a benevolent smile and a receding hairline, stepped out of a car. He looked at the numerous dark muzzles of guns, but his expression remained unchanged. It was Coulson, the village chief of the Novice Village!

"Federal Bureau of Investigation!" Coulson pulled out his FBI ID, showing it to the soldiers and Sheriff Yves. "We are taking over this mutant. Please move it to my car!"

"Hmph! FBI?" The lieutenant sneered, looking at Coulson and laughing. "Coulson, this isn't our first time dealing with each other, is it? Do you really think I don't recognize you?"

"Oh, it's Lieutenant Damon." Coulson's face showed no embarrassment; he continued to smile faintly, then calmly put his FBI ID back into his pocket and pulled out a new one. "I grabbed the wrong one just now. Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division."

"I advise you to stand down. General William Stryker wants this mutant, and any incident involving mutants should be handled by General William Stryker!" Lieutenant Damon sneered and shook his head. "Your flimsy ID won't be enough to take this mutant's body!"

As Lieutenant Damon's words fell, the soldiers cocked their weapons, ready to fire at any moment.

"Killing someone impersonating an FBI agent isn't a major crime!" Lieutenant Damon reminded again.

"Sigh!" Coulson let out a heavy sigh, a helpless smile on his face, and tapped his ear. "Director, it failed. General William Stryker's people arrived first."

"Hmph! He's not even a general; he's just a colonel!" Nick Fury's voice reached Coulson's ear. "Since they arrived early again, then forget it. Go investigate the cause of this mutant's death…"

"To be able to kill a physically mutated mutant, it shows that this person's strength should not be underestimated. Go investigate and see if it's an unexposed mutant or another super-powered individual!"

"Yes!" Coulson responded, waving to Sheriff Yves and Lieutenant Damon. "Sorry for the interruption, goodbye!"

"Hmph!" Watching Coulson drive away, Lieutenant Damon snorted coldly. "Fall in!"

A group of soldiers loaded Rockslide's body into the vehicle and then drove away, leaving behind a bewildered Sheriff Yves and the precinct officers.

"Ahem, alright, since there's nothing else, you're dismissed!" Sheriff Yves was the first to recover, waving to his officers. "At least, we don't have to get involved in such complicated matters, right?"

"Yeah, it's better if we don't get involved with monsters like mutants!" the officers all said with a laugh.
