"Maxwell's Demon... A hypothetical demon, the same type as Laplace's Demon?" Canary nodded in understanding.
In Little Garden, anything that could influence human history could acquire Divinity. This included historical literary figures, scientists, and even the conjectures proposed by scientists.
The thought experiments of physics were a prime example.
In fact, a similar existence had already gained an immense Divinity in Little Garden through a physics thought experiment.
This being was quite famous in the current Little Garden and was also one of Arcadia's important allies: Laplace's Demon.
It was a hypothetical construct proposed by the mathematician, capable of knowing the exact position and momentum of every particle in the universe, thereby being able to deduce the past and future and traverse the entire history of the cosmos—an omniscient and omnipotent hypothetical device.
Naturally, this existence, whose conceptual Divinity was based on omniscience and omnipotence, was a three-digit being in the domain of omnipotence from the moment of its birth.
However, its main body was usually asleep, with numerous avatars sharing its consciousness being the ones who were active.
Being very familiar with Laplace's Demon, Canary immediately understood the source of the enemy's Divinity.
Because of this, she quickly spotted a point of doubt.
"If I remember correctly, wasn't the theory of Maxwell's Demon disproven for violating the second law of thermodynamics?" Canary asked curiously.
"A disproven Maxwell's Demon shouldn't have a Divinity higher than a five-digit. With your strength, you two shouldn't have needed to fear it, right?"
A Divinity acquired through human history could easily be lost if human history negated it.
The reason Laplace's Demon could still maintain its Divinity was mainly because the theory of creationism had not been completely disproven, only limited by the omnipotence paradox.
But Maxwell's Demon was different; this hypothetical demon should have been long negated by the law of entropy increase.
Although she didn't know their exact Divinity, based on her estimation, the pumpkin-headed Jack and Willa before her should both be five-digits, perhaps even among the top-tier of that rank.
A two-on-one fight shouldn't have forced them to seek help.
Hearing Canary bring this up, the buxom, baby-faced Pale Flame Demon gave a look of pure, innocent cluelessness.
"?"
She had never been to school and genuinely didn't know what the second law of thermodynamics was.
A cold sweat broke out on Pumpkin Jack's head as well. Given his origins, he was basically half-illiterate, which was why he had raised his "daughter" Willa to be so simple-minded.
"I don't really understand science, but the Maxwell Demon Lord was indeed, as you said, only at a five-digit Divinity before," Jack honestly described their experience.
"Because his immortality was too strong and we couldn't eradicate the threat, I asked a saint from the Christian church to bring us to Little Garden. I thought that would allow us to escape his harassment, but I never expected that this Demon Lord seemed to have made some great achievement, raising his Divinity to a four-digit in one go and opening a gate to Little Garden with his own power."
"Huh?" Even Canary was a bit surprised by this story. "He accumulated merit on his own outside of Little Garden and went from a five-digit to a four-digit? That's no ordinary pervert; at the very least, he's a pervert with incredible determination!"
She knew how difficult that was. For a disproven hypothetical demon to raise its Divinity to a four-digit... With that kind of determination, building a harem of over a hundred thousand would be no problem.
How did he end up as a pervert chasing a young girl?
Faced with Canary's positive evaluation, the buxom Pale Flame Grand Demon was very displeased. She puffed out her cheeks like a small animal and corrected her.
"A determined pervert is still a pervert... and even scarier!"
Seeing her tremble at the mere mention of him, Canary grew curious. "So, what did this guy do to make you so repulsed?"
For a four-digit existence to pursue someone they liked with such single-minded devotion, even if it was unsuccessful, it shouldn't be met with this level of revulsion, right?
Hearing Canary ask this, Willa's eyes filled with utter disgust. "That guy is a disgusting stalker! More disgusting than rats and cockroaches!"
It was clear that this revulsion was deeply ingrained.
"It's like this..." Pumpkin Jack added.
In short, Willa had been the target of Maxwell's love at first sight, and he had been relentlessly proposing to her ever since.
That might not sound too bad on its own, but when you consider that he had the ability to teleport and could appear anywhere at any time, that he was so self-absorbed that he believed he was allowing her to be his wife, and that he genuinely thought she liked him back but was just too shy to say so...
The disgusting nature of the situation reached its peak when Willa realized she couldn't escape no matter what she did, and as a result, she became too afraid to sleep, bathe, or even go to the bathroom.
"Fortunately, Willa is a demon born from the boundary of life and death. After realizing how difficult he was, she gave up those basic needs. With my help, we haven't had any major problems yet. But she's still just a little girl. We can't let her live like this forever, can we?" Pumpkin Jack said, spreading his hands.
It was a good thing Willa also controlled the boundary of life and death and could teleport. Although she couldn't escape Maxwell's tracking, she could ensure she wasn't caught, which was how she had held on.
If it were anyone else, they would have never escaped his clutches.
"I see, so he's a stalker!" Canary said in realization, then cast a sympathetic glance at Willa. "Then this guy really deserves to die!"
"Mhm, mhm!" Hearing this, Willa nodded vigorously, her favorability towards Canary rising again.
"The problem now is how to catch this guy..." Canary began to think. "If I'm not mistaken, Maxwell's Demon should control the boundary of heat and cold. At the four-digit level, he should be able to open a Boundary Gate. We'll need a Boundary Gate user of the same rank to have a chance of tracking his movements. And a four-digit Boundary Gate user is..."
As she spoke, Canary's gaze shifted to the corner of the room.
"That's right! It's me!" Croix Baron leaped to his feet with a kip-up, his voice full of energy.
He was a Voodoo death god, standing at the crossroads where humans and gods met, and he controlled the boundary of life and death.
Although he wasn't a congenital god but one who had ascended from a spirit, he had still reached the four-digit level, perfectly fitting the requirement.
In terms of power, he was indeed reassuring. It was just his personality that was untrustworthy.
"After all that talk, it turns out he's just an ordinary stalker. In terms of perversion, he can't even compare to my universal love!" Croix puffed out his chest, as if "pervert" was a compliment. "In that case, I shall bring this lowly Demon Lord to justice! With my abilities, handling a petty demon is a piece of cake! Hahahahaha!"
After all, he thought, we're both four-digits, both control a Boundary Gate. How could a battle-hardened veteran pervert like me lose to some rookie stalker who just arrived in Little Garden? With a setup like this, how could I possibly lose?
Seeing Croix's confident look, although Willa still didn't trust this pervert, under Pumpkin Jack's guidance, she chose to cooperate.
After all, according to Jack, Arcadia's record of subjugating Demon Lords was the gold standard throughout the Lower Floors of Little Garden.
A community this excellent couldn't possibly be bested by a mere fledgling Demon Lord, right?
With this in mind, Willa quickly discussed a plan with Canary.
However, she never would have imagined that before the plan could even be put into action, the unexpected had already happened.
And Croix, the perverted powerhouse on whom everyone had placed their hopes, had dropped the ball at the critical moment.
"Damn it! A junior pervert who can't even appreciate the beauty of an eggshell dares to use such a despicable trick in front of me! Stop right there, I said!"
Today, once again, Baron Cross proved to be useless.
