Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 - The World Tree Leveled Up Again.

I began explaining to the elves how magic worked. Serie had already taught them the basics, so it was somewhat unnecessary. Still, I taught them again in my own way.

More than an entire hour passed. After finishing the explanations, it was time for practical training. Every elf is born with above-average mana reserves, so it would be fine.

All the elves followed me to the World Tree.

"Just as I taught you. Feel your mana and imagine a fireball in your hand. You don't need to picture the entire creation process of the spell, only its final form. It might be a little difficult at first, but in a few minutes you'll be able to do it easily."

All the elves raised their hands and closed their eyes.

Two of them, Lyuu and another elf, managed to conjure fireballs with ease.

The others kept trying for a few minutes until they succeeded.

However, some of them couldn't maintain the spell. After the fireball appeared, it vanished within seconds.

Huff~~ I let out a long sigh at the sight of their disappointment. "It's alright, this happens. Keep practicing. All magic works the same way—you just need to use your imagination."

I raised my hand, and a water sphere appeared. It grew rapidly as my mana drained away, becoming several meters wide.

Every gaze fixed on the massive water sphere, eyes shining in awe, mesmerized.

I smiled, and then the sphere shot upward.

Once it reached a proper height, it exploded, making it "rain."

"Isn't that cool? You'll be able to do this soon if you keep training." As I said this, Serie approached from behind.

"Don't give them false hope. If they try something like that now, all the mana in their bodies would be drained before they even begin! You really have lost the ability to train others." She sighed deeply.

"Huh? What do you mean? I taught them perfectly."

"Are you sure? You just repeated what I had already taught them and then told them to 'imagine magic.' It's not that simple."

"But look, they all managed to create fireballs."

"And why are you teaching them fire magic? What if they set the forest on fire?"

"It's fine. If anything happens, the Tree will take care of it."

"..." Serie rolled her eyes. "Alright, I'll take over from here. Lyuu, you'll be my assistant."

"Yes!"

Leaving me behind, Serie and the elves walked away.

I put my hands on my waist, staring at them without knowing how to react.

"Well, I tried." I shrugged and returned inside the Tree to continue my training.

'If Serie weren't teaching the elves, I'd ask her for help…'

This time, I think I'll request something a bit bolder.

I need to speed up my training as much as possible.

I feel something big is about to happen.

POV: Third Person

After talking with Tiona, she told Fern that the person she was looking for was a member of her Familia. Hearing this, the corners of Fern's lips curved into a small smile.

She was very happy and excited, though that was the most she could show.

"Can I meet her now?" Fern asked.

"Hmmm… I don't think she's home at the moment. I believe she was going to travel somewhere today."

"That's unfortunate…" Fern's face fell. She had hoped to speak with Ryuu today.

"How about this? You can come home with me and stay there until Ryuu returns. I don't know what you want with her, but it seems very important."

"Yes, it is important…" Fern replied, her expression complicated.

She wanted to do what Heiter had asked and meet the elves, but… what if they didn't want to take care of her? What if they treated her poorly?

Fern had never heard anything bad about elves—only good things. Yet, she was still a little worried.

'But if I stay in Orario, I'll continue living on the streets and being treated badly… Isn't it better to take the risk?'

That was her thought.

Better to take a risk than to go on living this miserable life.

"Alright, I'll go with you," Fern said, her expression neutral.

Tiona gave her a wide smile. "Great."

After paying the restaurant bill, Tiona held Fern's hand and led her outside.

"Hm? You're taking her with you?"

"She's looking for Ryuu. Apparently, it's something very important. I'll take her home and look after her until Ryuu returns. She went out on an adventure, right?"

"Wait, you're taking her home?" Tione stopped walking. "Are you sure that's a good idea?"

"It's fine, she's cute. The Goddess won't mind."

"..." Tione didn't respond, though she was visibly concerned.

Fern lowered her head and stayed silent.

Then Tione sighed. "Alright, let's go. I'll talk to the Goddess."

Tione felt compelled to help the poor girl.

POV: Frieren

After finishing my daily training, I checked my status.

Name: Frieren

Magic Proficiency: 91,334 / 204,800

Mana: 153,569 / 204,800

Collected Elements: 0

Talent: Fast Conversion (+10% conversion)

Reading it, I was instantly disappointed.

"It's still so far away…" Well, after all the elves were born, I hadn't trained as much.

I approached the trunk of the Tree and touched it.

[World Tree]

Level: 10

Class: Source of Primordial Element

Maximum Primordial Element: 8,000

"I can level up the Tree one more time… But should I?"

Well, if I do, the conversion bonus it grants will probably increase.

"I'll do it."

So, I used nearly all of my mana to raise the World Tree's level once again.
