Chapter 224 - Lord Anemo Archon Must Be Up to Something Important

"So, Wendy is now the Anemo Archon. From now on, if you have anything to discuss with the Anemo Archon, you can go directly to Wendy."

Seeing the two were about to bicker again, Venti told Miko that from now on, she should go to Wendy for anything concerning the Anemo Archon, not him.

"Did you hear that, stinky fox? From now on, if you have anything, come directly to your Anemo Archon."

After Venti finished speaking, Wendy seized the opportunity to mock Miko again.

"Alright, alright, Anemo Archon, please take good care of this humble maiden from now on." Yae Miko, however, did not retort this time. Instead, she became uncharacteristically respectful, a display that made Wendy slightly uneasy.

'It feels like Miko has some ulterior motive…'

Looking at the suddenly respectful Miko, Wendy sensed that things were not as simple as they seemed. But knowing she wouldn't get any answers if she pressed the issue, she decided to revel in the moment for now: "That's right, your Anemo Archon will certainly take good care of you, little fox."

'This arrogant little brat… she actually called me a little fox… When I get back to Inazuma, I'll get Mei to teach her a lesson… If that doesn't suffice, I'll let Kaito take care of it…'

Faced with being called a little fox, Miko didn't outwardly react. In her heart, she had already devised a plan: to exact her revenge through Mei or Kaito once she returned to Inazuma.

"Alright, it's getting late. Let's head back into the city. I'll find a place for you to stay, and you can return to Inazuma tomorrow or after playing for a few more days."

With the day drawing to a close, Venti suggested they head back into the city where he would arrange accommodations for Miko and Wendy.

"That would be great." Yae Miko, ever respectful of Venti, replied.

"I want my own room." Upon hearing Venti's offer to find accommodations, Wendy immediately insisted on having her own room. This was crucial, as Kaito and Acheron, back in Inazuma, were eagerly anticipating another round of intimate interaction, making a private space an absolute necessity for her.

"No problem." Venti nodded. In truth, Venti had no intention of lodging Miko and Wendy together even if she hadn't asked. He harbored a distinct worry that the two might come to blows, which would be... problematic.

'This little brat… Does she think I'd share a room with her…'

Miko understood Wendy's request as a clear desire for separate rooms. A desire Miko reciprocated, making the arrangement mutually agreeable.

"Let's go." With Venti leading the way, the group made their way back to the city gates of Mondstadt.

'The Anemo Archon is back…'

After waiting at the city gate for a while, Kaeya finally spotted the Anemo Archon he'd been awaiting. 'Why is Kaeya still here… Is he on night duty today?'

Wendy pondered. As she met his gaze, she could tell he was about to speak. Her immediate priority, however, was to secure lodgings quickly, allowing her other two selves in Inazuma to attend to their urgent matters. This mutual connection proved incredibly inconvenient in the current circumstances. Whenever Kaito engaged in his activities, all other forms of their shared consciousness, regardless of location, found themselves compelled to seek privacy, lest they inadvertently betray their state with unusual sounds or movements in public.

A short while later.

"Alright, Wendy, you'll stay here tonight. As for Miko, I'll take her to another place." At the inn's counter, Venti finalized the room arrangements for Wendy. He then escorted Miko to a separate inn. He reasoned that even within separate rooms in the same establishment, their potential for conflict remained too high, hence the decision to house them in entirely different inns.

'Finally ready…'

Watching Venti and Miko's retreating figures, an impatient Wendy made a swift beeline for her room. After waiting so long, the moment for her pressing engagement had arrived.

Bang—

As soon as she entered the room, Wendy quickly locked the door and windows. 'Ha— My face is so red…'

Having secured the door and windows, Wendy turned to the bed, only to catch sight of a full-length mirror. Her reflection revealed hazy eyes, a flushed complexion, and continuous, shallow breaths.

"Mm…"

As Wendy observed her reflection, an involuntary 'mm' escaped her lips. She found herself leaning against the cool glass. 'Whoa… No, no… I need to lie on the bed…'

Overwhelmed by a sudden weakness that made standing impossible, Wendy resolved to recline on the bed. Just then, a knock echoed from the door.

"Miss Wendy, it's me, are you there?"

'I'm not here…'

A pounding headache began to form, and Wendy stared at the door, thinking. 'She just couldn't understand why there was always someone disturbing Kaito's private affairs today. First it was Miko, now it's Acting Grand Master Jean; it's truly endless. Can't they wait until Kaito has concluded his activities? Right… I can use Venti's Gnosis to communicate with Acting Grand Master Jean in my mind…'

The thought sparked in her mind just as she found herself unable to stand, sinking into a crouch. She closed her eyes.

"Miss Wendy? Are you there?"

'Did the Anemo Archon go out?' Receiving no response from within, Acting Grand Master Jean at the door wondered if the Anemo Archon had stepped out. Only moments before, Kaeya had informed her that the Anemo Archon was residing in this very inn, prompting her immediate arrival.

'Is something the matter?'

Just as Jean was wondering whether to continue knocking, the Anemo Archon's voice resonated directly in her mind.

"Anemo Archon?"

Hearing a voice in her head, Jean instinctively glanced around, assuming the Anemo Archon was speaking to her from a nearby location. Yet, seeing no one, she grew profoundly confused.

'Don't make a sound, I'm speaking in your mind right now.'

'In my mind?'

'Anemo Archon, can you hear me?'

'I can hear you.'

After Jean tried to inquire in her mind, she really received a response from the Anemo Archon.

'Is something the matter?'

'It's like this, Anemo Archon, Miss Ningguang said earlier that she suddenly lost track of you, so I've been looking for you all this time.' Jean conveyed, via their mental link, that she had been searching for Wendy relentlessly.

'Because I went to Inazuma…'

For some inexplicable reason, after the Anemo Archon stated she had traveled to Inazuma, the mental connection abruptly ceased, leaving Jean uncertain of what had occurred.

'Anemo Archon?'

After a period of silence, Jean tentatively queried the Anemo Archon's mental presence once more.
