Chapter 278 - Can't Face It Alone

"So, do you really intend for me to go with you just like this?"

Looking at Miko's serious appearance, Kaito asked.

At first, he thought Miko was merely joking. However, seeing her earnest demeanor, he realized she was truly serious about this.

"Yes."

Locking eyes with Kaito, Miko nodded with great solemnity.

In truth, aside from testing Kaito, she also wanted to see how Ei would react to this.

Regardless of the outcome, it would certainly be interesting.

"So, are we going now?"

Having confirmed Miko's genuine intent, Kaito asked about the timing.

"Yes." Miko nodded again.

"That works."

After a moment of thought, Kaito decided to go along with Miko's plan. Since he had absolutely nothing to worry about, what was the harm in making the trip?

"Then let's get moving," Miko said as she stood up.

However, she couldn't shake the feeling that Kaito didn't seem particularly concerned about the "boyfriend" identity. It seemed he only agreed to her request for some other purpose.

Does this guy simply have too many girlfriends?

Walking ahead, Miko couldn't help but entertain this thought.

After all, only that could explain why Kaito seemed so indifferent to the things she did.

More importantly, Kaito indeed had many girlfriends—perhaps even more than just the ones she currently knew about.

Forget it...

Who cares how many girlfriends that guy has...

Right now, I need to figure out how to make Mei appear before Ei...

Right...

Hasn't that member of the Kujou Clan returned yet?

As she walked, Miko's thoughts drifted to Kujou Sara.

She knew that once Kujou Sara returned, she would definitely report that incident.

And when that time came, Ei would surely come to settle the score with her.

So...

Should I have Mei appear before Ei right at that moment?

Or...

Should I bring it forward a bit?

Which would be better?

Lost in thought, Miko fell into a dilemma, unsure which method would be superior.

"What are you thinking about? Are you worried that what you did will be discovered?"

At this moment, Kaito walked up beside Miko and asked.

Seeing Miko deep in thought, he surmised she was concerned about her actions being exposed.

"Not exactly."

Turning her head to glance at Kaito beside her, Miko slowly shook her head. She then continued, "Actually, I was wondering when I should let Mei appear before Ei."

Right...

Does this guy really think the resemblance between Ei and Mei is just a coincidence?

Suddenly pondering this question, Miko turned back to look at Kaito, as if trying to discern something from his expression.

Of course, she still couldn't read anything from him.

Sigh...

Forget it, forget it...

Let's go see Ei first...

I'll see what kind of reaction this guy has when the time comes...

Deciding not to overthink it, Miko planned to observe if Kaito would have any special reaction in front of Ei.

"You can just tell her whenever you feel like it."

Regarding Miko's concern, Kaito's response made it sound like he was staying out of the matter.

Of course, for him, that wasn't the case—after all, both individuals were effectively him.

But to Miko, his words certainly carried a sense of detachment, especially since he didn't even offer a suggestion.

This guy...

Does he just want to watch the drama from the sidelines?

Unexpectedly, Kaito had no opinion at all, merely telling her to inform Mei once she had decided. Miko couldn't help but think this way.

However, despite her thoughts, Miko didn't say anything. She simply continued walking silently toward where Ei was located.

Tenshukaku.

"Just ahead is where Her Excellency, the Shogun, resides. You... try to behave yourself a little."

Walking in front to lead the way, Miko suddenly stopped and said this to Kaito behind her.

As Miko was a friend of the Raiden Shogun, the two of them had walked all the way there without obstruction.

Proceeding further would bring them directly face-to-face with the Raiden Shogun, which was why Miko asked Kaito to mind his manners.

In any case, this should be Kaito's first time seeing the Raiden Shogun, so she didn't want him to do anything untoward.

"No problem."

Regarding Miko's words, Kaito nodded crisply.

Initially, he thought he wouldn't need to come and could just wait for Miko to return. However, since Miko had asked him to join her, he had simply tagged along.

"Then let's keep moving."

With that, Miko stepped forward again.

To be honest, Miko was actually feeling a little guilty.

After all, given the things she had done, if Ei were to find out, she would definitely kill her.

Therefore, bringing Kaito along was partly to embolden herself.

Regardless, they had done those things together. She couldn't face Her Excellency, the Shogun, all by herself—she absolutely had to drag Kaito into this as well.
