Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: She Walks Among Us (With Heels That Could Kill)

The morning mist was thick—unnaturally thick.

Luna was sharpening her claws. Aria was meditating, sword floating beside her. Eirene was boiling tea with silent efficiency.

And Baron?

Baron was hiding inside a tent. Under a blanket. Clutching a pillow. Because last night, a reality-bending villainess kissed his cheek and whispered sweet destruction in his ear.

"She's coming back," he muttered, eyes wide. "I felt it. The kiss… glitched."

Outside, Luna paced. "We should've killed her."

Aria nodded. "Agreed. She's dangerous."

"I mean, sure, she was hot," Luna added. "But, like… unstable hot."

Baron poked his head out. "You can say 'murderous demon with lipstick,' it's okay."

Then…

A rustle.

Someone approached camp.

And it wasn't Solaria.

Or was it?

She looked different this time.

Shorter. Softer. Wearing a worn cloak and plain boots. Her eyes, once swirling with glitch-static, were now warm brown. Her aura? Quiet. Meek.

Too meek.

"Hello," she said sweetly. "My name is Sora. I'm a traveling scholar. I saw your camp and wondered if you had room for one more?"

Baron stepped forward. Narrowed his eyes.

"Solaria?" he whispered.

She blinked. "Pardon?"

He turned to the others. "That's her. I swear, that's her! She's just in… NPC cosplay!"

Eirene raised a brow. "If it is her, she's suppressing her aura almost perfectly."

Aria approached her cautiously. "Have we met?"

The girl tilted her head, smiling innocently. "I don't believe so. I'm just passing through. But I know a lot about glyph magic. And recursion."

Baron froze.

"Okay. That's her. SHE SAID THE KEYWORD. Nobody just casually knows recursion!"

Sora—Solaria in disguise—joined them around the fire.

She offered tea. She acted clumsy. She blushed when Luna scowled at her.

Baron was 89% sure she was acting.

Aria was 50% sure.

Luna? 100% sure.

Eirene just wanted popcorn.

"So what brings you out here, Sora?" Luna asked with a sharp tone.

"Oh… just wandering," she said, looking up at the sunrise. "Looking for someone."

Baron coughed.

"Could it be," Eirene murmured, "you're looking for someone you used to love, but who erased you from their memory with a system reset?"

Sora paused.

Smiled.

And said, "That's oddly specific."

That night, Sora stayed near the edge of camp.

Baron couldn't sleep. He tiptoed out and found her sitting on a rock, humming an old lullaby.

"You're not really her, are you?" he asked.

Sora glanced at him. "Who would you rather I be?"

Baron hesitated. "The girl who kissed me yesterday… she wanted to take over my reality."

"And what if," she said softly, "that version of me died when you rejected her?"

Baron blinked. "Wait… this is your second personality?"

She smiled. "I'm just… a fragment. A failsafe. Maybe not even meant to exist. But I still care. Even if I wasn't real."

[SYSTEM: Emotional Stability Dropping. System Error: YOU MADE HER SAD.]

Baron cursed. "Oh no—don't do this! I'm sorry, okay? I was overwhelmed!"

She stood.

Took a step closer.

"Would you rather I be dangerous again?"

Baron gulped. "Define 'dangerous'."

Suddenly—

The sky cracked. Again.

Lightning struck the camp perimeter.

Real Solaria emerged—eyes blazing, cloak billowing.

She looked at Sora. The fragment.

And snarled. "So you're the part of me that held back."

Sora turned, lifting a hand. "I'm the version who still loved him."

The girls all jumped up.

"Oh hell no," Luna growled. "Now there's two of her?!"

Aria unsheathed her sword. "This is why I hate recursion."

Baron ducked as spells started flying.

Solaria and Sora clashed mid-air—two versions of the same woman.

One chaos. One control.

Baron, stuck in the middle, screamed, "DOES ANYONE ELSE SEE HOW THIS IS NOT NORMAL?!"

Eirene sipped tea calmly. "This is your life now, darling."

The fight ended in a draw.

Both Solaria and Sora vanished at dawn, leaving behind only a note.

"I'm not done yet. I just need to know which version of me you want."

—Solaria/Sora

Baron sat by the fire, face in hands.

"This is fine," he muttered. "Totally fine. Normal harem problems."

Aria patted him on the back. "At least no one's pregnant."

Luna grinned. "Yet."
