Prologue: The Shattered World

Night.

Kairon's village burned, and the sky bled red.

Not from a dying sun—no.

From the inferno eating Ashfall alive.

Smoke choked him, thick with burning wood and flesh.

Neighbors screamed. Then nothing.

Just the roar of the flames, eating it all.

He was down, half-buried in the hot mess.

His blood, warm and sticky, caked with cold ash.

A gaping wound carved into his side…

from a blade he knew.

Someone close.

The hand that shoved him into the collapsing timbers?

Not a stranger's.

A face he trusted, now cold as coin.

Betrayed.

For silver? For fear? No—because he was always just kindling to her.

Kairon Veyl, orphan blacksmith, should've died.

Darkness took him.

Then came the agony.

Bones twisting.

Blood boiling.

Golden scales, hot as molten metal, erupted across his skin, burning away the pain.

A voice followed.

Not in his ears—in his skull.

Ancient. Cold.

"Dragonblood found. Limitless System… online."

Kairon wasn't prey anymore.

Not fully human.

Not yet a monster.

Something else.

Something fiercer.

His awakening carried a price.

The dragon power in his blood called to things best left sleeping.

Monster tides stirred in the Ashen Wilds, sulfur and jagged ruins beyond.

And whispers of him had already reached the Crimson Claw Sect.

Killers were coming.

Eryndor was a broken world.

Skies scorched crimson.

Kingdoms crushed by the Iron Dominion.

The gods? Gone.

Not vanished—devoured by something so old it has no name.

Still out there. Watching. Hungry.

Dragonborn like Kairon?

Cursed. Wanted.

Their blood could save Eryndor…

or wake the horror sleeping in the void.

The power inside him now?

The Limitless System.

Not a blessing.

A forge.

It burned through blood and battle, cold fire crawling in his veins.

It whispered with that same, ancient voice:

"Kill. Evolve. Or become meat for the thing that waits."

A low growl rolled through the smoke.

From the ruins, red eyes glimmered, cutting through the dark.

The System's voice sharpened, cold as steel:

"Prey approaches. Prove your worth, Dragonborn."

The hunt began.

And the System laughed.
