Chapter 1 - The Knock

I woke up early today, for the very first time. The house was empty, alone was I, yawning like a hungry madman.

I looked at the screen, and the TV was still on. It's because I slept while watching it last night, to feel like I had company.

"Toc toc toc."

Someone is knocking at the door.

"Who is there!?!" I asked, very anxious about this early visit. No one answered.

I felt like there must be a mistake. Normally, I'm a lone wolf, so nobody visits me. Who was then knocking at my door this early in the morning?

"What the fuck is going on!?" I thought loudly.

I finally took a few steps toward the door and opened it out of curiosity, to see if someone had confused my door with the next one. So, I opened it in the blink of an eye, nobody.

Nobody was behind that door. Who was knocking then? I rushed into the bathroom, poured some water vigorously on my face and grabbed the towel. Refreshing my brain could help me gain a better understanding. So, as I was wrapping the towel around my neck, I heard once more: "toc toc toc…"

"Who the hell is disturbing my peaceful day!?" I shouted. But nobody answered.

This situation is starting to get to me. I hate this kind of thing. I'm not a joker, in real life, I don't even smile even when I'm happy. I'm a lonely person who loves to go about my days with no headache from entertaining nonsense from others.

The person behind this unpleasant joke was about to find out who the fuck I am. Especially in the morning like that, I'm a no-go zone. I can kill if you dare me.

"If I catch you little as a hole, you gonna cry a river, keep doing that shit"

As if it wasn't enough, the door knocking continued: "TOC TOC TOC…"

Holly shit, I jumped up like a Gazelle and smashed a straight kick at the door, blasting it at the same time. I was expecting a casualty well deserved behind it. Surprisingly, nothing to show, nobody, just the empty corridor of our massive building.

Who was then knocking at that door for GOD sake?

I can get mad in this kind of situation. I don't usually talk to neighbours, not for any specific reason. It's just how I am. So, I wouldn't start today, and all the other doors to mine were closed.

I got back in, checking left and right, then to my window…

Even outside, I could see nothing human-like. Just the empty streets. People in this town were not used to getting up early in the morning, as they usually slept late at night.

I nevertheless needed to talk to somebody. To find out what was going on at my door. I became suddenly upset by this idea. I drew closer to the door and stayed there, waiting for the sweet spot to hit harder this time.

I stood there for some time, holding its unstable handle tidily, but nothing happened. Well, maybe the visitor was gone this time. I then stepped back into my business and kicked off my day in this backwards suburb, where I was obliged to hide for 6 months at least, after the death of Patricia, the one and only Patricia they all loved.

I had to hide from them in this 'as hole' area where no respect is due to anyone. I stepped back to look at how things would unfold today. As soon as I took the second step: "TOC TOC TOC TOC…" even more irritating this time. I shouted all my stomach out: "Who are you, son of a bitch?" and rushed at the same time at the waving door. NOBODY!

Out of the apartment, not even a sign of a person, no steps, no voice. I could only hear mine as I scrutinised every move around. The air was cold; the breeze was swiping my face as I showed my head out the door. I turned it in the sign of the cross to peek all around swiftly. I was nervous and scared at the same time, as this could be some spy around me up to something dirty.

I was supposed to be in a discreet setting where no one could ever suspect me to be. An old building half occupied by no names, smelling of rust, with its unwelcoming setting. The kind of place that's never cleaned up, the steps no my door look like a walk to the cemetery. No one could pay me a visit in this kind of place even if they had my address pinpointed.

So, a knock at my door was something to be scared about, but more of something to react to as quickly as possible.

Patricia was the love of many hearts, one of them was trying to make me pay all this while.

I went back in, straight to the kitchen and took the longest knife. As I held it firmly, thinking of what could happen to anyone who tries me now, I heard this horrible sound once more: "TOC TOC TOC TOC TOC…"

This time, I wasn't going to let this mother fucker escape. I tiptoed toward the door to get him. I sliced my left hand on the door handle slowly, then brutally opened it, stretching my right hand directly outside, piercing the air. My intention was to hurt first before talking.

I then saw a shadow vanishing from the end of the next alley, it looked like a man, but not really. It went too fast! I dived in a fast run to catch that bastard. "Come here! What do you want? Who are you?!"

Before I could reach the building, the mysterious visitor had disappeared. Bald Moss and his gangs were too sophisticated to do this kind of childish shit. It could never be theirs. The kind of moves they perform is flawless. They can make you disappear without you even knowing you no longer exist. If they were able to locate me in this no-name area, I would be dead.
