Chapter 3 - Life and Death Contract

The moment Sheng Meiyue stepped into the ancient tower, the vast darkness within seemed to bend around her, pulsing faintly with power.

Inside, the space was impossibly large—a vast pavilion with no walls, only endless obsidian floors stretching into the void. Strange runes floated in the air like fireflies, casting eerie glows on her pale skin.

Her crimson eyes narrowed, scanning the emptiness.

"Tch. Just a ruined space?" she murmured. "I expected more…"

As the words left her lips, the air shifted.

A faint breeze stirred, carrying with it a scent both sweet and cold, like frozen orchids blooming in moonlight. The runes pulsed once—and then, in the center of the hall, mist gathered, swirling and rising like smoke from a divine incense.

From within the mist, a figure slowly took form—tall, graceful, otherworldly.

Long robes flowed like liquid silk, ink-black with hints of silver. Her hair was long, impossibly lustrous, falling like a waterfall into the mist. Her face remained obscured by a delicate veil of fog, yet even so, Meiyue's breath caught.

She was beautiful—a piece of heaven wrapped in mystery.

Then, the woman spoke.

"You have finally come."

Her voice was calm and distant, like the sound of wind over a frozen lake—neither warm nor cold, but filled with weight.

Meiyue's crimson eyes narrowed slightly.

"Who are you?" she asked, her tone guarded, but curious. "Why do you look like a spirit... trapped here?"

The woman took a slow step forward, mist swirling around her bare feet.

"My name… as long as I can remember it… is Xue Yiran."

A pause.

"As for who I am… I do not remember."

Silence.

Even Meiyue, who had seen impossible things in this new world, remained still.

"This place," Yiran continued, turning slightly, arms gracefully extended, "is the Heaven Suppressing Pavilion—a fragment of something once vast. It was created to suppress me, though I know not why."

She touched one of the floating runes lightly, and it shivered, dissolving into mist.

"A mysterious entity... called itself the Heaven Suppressing System. It brought me here... to your consciousness. To your soul."

Meiyue's gaze sharpened.

"So you're saying you live inside my soul?" she asked, arms crossed.

Yiran gave a soft, amused smile, though her veil hid it.

"In a sense. But not by choice."

"Then what now?" Meiyue asked, voice low.

Yiran's gaze turned sharp beneath the veil.

"It says… when we form an equal contract, it will begin. A bond of life and death. Only then will this system fully awaken."

Meiyue blinked. For a long moment, silence reigned, save for the hum of ancient power in the air.

Then—She laughed softly, shaking her head.

"A system, a tower in my soul, a mysterious woman… Damn. I've read enough novels to guess where this is going."

She looked up, eyes glinting.

"I don't understand much, but… fine. Let's start. Maybe this system will explain everything after the contract."

Yiran did not move.

"No. Nothing is free in this world."Her voice was cold now, sharp like frost."You want power? You want to rise fast? You'll need my help."

She raised her hand, pointing directly at Meiyue."And I have two conditions."

Meiyue's smile faded.

"Speak."

"First, one day, you must create a physical body for me. I will not remain a spirit forever."

"Second—" Yiran took a step closer, her presence suddenly immense."You will accept me as your master."

The words hung in the air like a guillotine.

Meiyue's eyes widened slightly, then narrowed.

"Master?" she echoed, lips curling into a smirk."How bold."

She took a step forward, crimson eyes locking onto the veiled face.

"And what if I refuse?"

Yiran's voice was calm.

"Then you will remain weak. Trapped in this world where strength rules all… and die before your story begins because i can feel that there is a poison in your body you dont have much time left"

Silence.

Then, Meiyue laughed again—cold, amused, unafraid.

"You're quite interesting, Xue Yiran."

"Fine. I accept your terms… Master."

Yiran's eyes flickered behind the mist.

"Good."

Suddenly, the runes ignited, swirling around them in a spiral of light and blood."Then let the Life-Death Contract be formed.".The tower trembled.Their hands met—and the contract was sealed.

As the Life-Death Contract sealed, the runes floating around Meiyue and Xue Yiran blazed with sudden intensity, spiraling upward like a storm of ancient symbols. The obsidian walls of the tower shuddered faintly, and the very air grew heavy—thick with unseen power.

Suddenly, from all directions, a cold, emotionless voice echoed through the vast pavilion, neither male nor female, but impossibly ancient, layered with an authority that crushed all sound beneath it.

"Initializing... System Awakening... Binding Complete."

Meiyue's gaze snapped upward as the darkness above rippled like disturbed water. Countless silver threads of energy descended from the ceilingless void, intertwining, forming a massive sigil above their heads.

The voice returned—clearer now, calm and terrifying in its detachment.

"Greetings, both Hosts. I am the Heaven Suppressing System—the most mysterious and forbidden entity in this world, sealed since the Age of Chaos, now awakened."

Meiyue's eyes flickered with faint interest, while Yiran stood silently, gaze unreadable behind the mist.

"This system does not offer cheap rewards nor hand out power like candy," it continued, voice cutting like a blade."I exist to defy the Heavens, to crush the fates of chosen ones, and to create monsters that walk outside destiny."

Suddenly, a flicker of light appeared in Meiyue's vision, and a translucent interface formed before her eyes—dark red, jagged, filled with cryptic symbols.

Host: Sheng Meiyue – ContractedStatus: Soul-Bound with Xue YiranPrimary Function: CHANCE THEFT ACTIVATED

The system's voice now spoke directly to Meiyue's soul, cold and slow.

"In this world, all beings possess 'chance'—fortunes bestowed by fate, luck, destiny. Some are born with divine bloodlines, others stumble upon ancient relics, or gain life-changing encounters."

A pause, as if the system was savoring its next words.

"You, Sheng Meiyue, have been given the ability to see these chances... and to steal them."

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

"Steal them?" she echoed softly.

"Yes," the system confirmed. "When you encounter another's chance—be it treasure, fortune, or life-altering event—you can interfere, seize it, and trigger a Feedback Loop."

Suddenly, the interface shimmered and a line of blood-red text appeared:

Chance-Stolen: Basic – 10x FeedbackRare – 50x FeedbackHeaven-Grade – 100x FeedbackFeedback can be cultivation gains, comprehension boosts, treasure duplication, or bloodline advancement.

"As you grow stronger, the Feedback will increase. There is no limit," the system intoned."With every stolen chance, you defy the natural order. You crush the paths of heroes, saints, and geniuses… and forge your own path as an anomaly."

Meiyue's lips curled into a faint, cold smile.

"So... I become stronger by destroying others' fates?"Her voice was soft, amused. "That sounds… enjoyable."

"It is survival," the system answered. "You are not the chosen one. You are the usurper. The suppressor. The anomaly."

For a moment, silence reigned.

Then the system added:

"But remember… the more chances you steal, the more you draw Heaven's attention. You will become a threat to destiny itself. And Heaven does not tolerate threats."

The final words echoed like thunder in her soul.
