Chapter 99 - Chapter 99: When Eyes Meet Again!

From Obito's perspective, Umbrella Ideology was nothing more than a book written by some fool who dreamed of saving the shinobi world through peace. To Obito, such peace was impossible.

Only the Eye of the Moon could bring true eternity.

"I want to create a world with Rin…"

His murmur carried into the air, half a confession, half a vow.

But did Obito truly want to create a perfect world? Or was it simply a world where Rin lived and loved him? Who could know for certain?

...

Land of Rain

Konan's heart ached as she watched the frail man before her, flipping through the book on his lap—none other than Umbrella Ideology.

Though Nagato had strayed far from the path they once shared, he was all she had left. Whatever he chose, Konan had resolved to walk beside him, even if that path was wrong.

Nagato gently closed the book and spoke, his voice heavy with conviction.

"Konan… perhaps we did take the wrong path. This book… it is right. A true revolution must have a guiding principle."

"If we had realized this sooner, maybe things would not have come to this."

But then his tone shifted, his Rinnegan gleaming with a dreadful intensity.

"Still… peace gained without pain will never last. People will forget the horrors of war, forget suffering. The Five Great Nations must experience pain if they are to understand the value of peace!"

Although Umbrella Ideology carried great wisdom, in Nagato's eyes it was only a little more refined than Yahiko's old dream. His best friend's death had twisted his heart, leaving him convinced—like Obito—that only through suffering could peace be born.

Konan picked up the book and began reading. The writing was vivid, profound, and passionate, offering a unique view of the shinobi world's development, ideology, and growth.

Unlike Nagato, Konan felt this could truly be the path to peace.

Conflict came from unequal resources, from the greed of ambitious men. Balance in distribution, the creativity of ninjutsu, and the advancement of science—these were the forces that shaped progress.

The ideas sparked something in her.

She could not help but wonder: who was this author?

Who could possess such clarity, analyzing the shinobi world so deeply, understanding human nature so precisely?

In her mind, an image formed of an old sage with a long white beard—someone who had endured endless hardship and tasted every suffering life had to offer.

Only such a figure could have written such guiding principles.

Meanwhile, Itachi and Kisame had arrived in the Land of Waves. Though it had been confirmed this was not the Umbrella Organization's main base, their influence here was undeniable.

As they walked through the streets, they passed laughing children and smiling elders.

For the first time in a long while, Itachi felt something stir within him at the sight.

But then, Kisame's eyes narrowed. A villager slowly backed out of a doorway, clearly watching them.

Itachi signaled him not to act rashly.

The Land of Waves was now filled with Umbrella members. These people lived their lives as villagers, but many were part of the Organization.

Others, eager to rise in rank, would surely report the appearance of strangers like Itachi and Kisame—an easy way to earn points within the Umbrella system.

Itachi noticed the man's subtle movements but chose to remain calm. He was waiting for what was to come.

Not far away, Izumi, Zabuza, and Uchiha Yu had already received word. They were waiting.

At last, their quarry had appeared.

Hatred burned in Izumi's eyes. Her grandmother had also perished that night… by his hand.

Itachi.

Zabuza and Yu exchanged looks. They could feel the suffocating pressure radiating from Izumi's chakra. For someone so young, her aura was terrifying.

Back in his youth, Zabuza had been hailed as a prodigy himself. Now, standing just short of the level of the Five Kage, he knew what it meant to bear such potential. Within three years, he was confident he could cross that threshold—even if only at the weakest level among the Five Kage.

But that was still the realm of the Kage!

With the revised chakra refining methods, the integration of martial arts, and access to advanced ninjutsu, he had all the resources he needed. If he could not reach that height, then the title of "Demon of the Hidden Mist" would mean nothing.

The three of them moved to an open field, deliberately releasing their chakra without concealment.

They had no intention of dragging the fight into the town and risking civilian lives.

"Itachi Uchiha…" Izumi whispered, her killing intent surging.

"Oh? Only three people?" Kisame sneered, baring his shark-like teeth. "Isn't that underestimating us just a little?"

Kisame sneered as the three opponents released their chakra without restraint. From their aura, he could tell there was one formidable fighter on par with him, while the other two—though powerful—didn't strike him as much of a threat.

"Let's go."

Itachi spoke calmly, his tone indifferent as ever. Yet, deep inside, he couldn't shake the strange sense of familiarity he felt from one of those chakra signatures.

The two vanished in a blur, darting through the forest.

"They're here."

Izumi's eyes snapped open from meditation, her long lashes trembling slightly. Despite her efforts to remain calm, her heart was far from steady. She did not know what emotions would surface when she faced Itachi again.

Uchiha Yu, however, was filled with nothing but anticipation.

"That brat! He'll pay for what he's done sooner or later!"

As a former instructor of the Uchiha clan, Yu had once admired Itachi, believing he could lead their clan to its peak. Itachi's genius was undeniable—so young, yet already surpassing seasoned shinobi.

But in the end, just as Lord Naruto had said, being too mature at such a young age could be dangerous.

To massacre one's own family, one's entire clan… what else could that be but a distorted mind?

"It's the poison of that old schemer, the Third Hokage," Yu muttered bitterly.

According to Lord Naruto, the mental conditioning of young shinobi needed to be reinforced. Children pushed into this life too early grew powerful quickly, yes, but their values were twisted. Their minds cracked under pressure.

He had called it a sickness.

At first Yu scoffed at the idea. But after countless examinations, he had been forced to admit the truth: many of the surviving Uchiha boys indeed displayed unsettling signs. And those with awakened Sharingan—most of them were not well at all.

Why had no one noticed before?

Two figures closed in fast.

At last, Itachi and Kisame stepped into the clearing.

The moment Itachi laid eyes on them, his calm expression faltered.

His hands subtly formed the seal to release genjutsu. Nothing changed.

A sudden chill passed through him. Again, he tried to dispel it. Still nothing.

"Don't bother."

Yu's voice was cold and sharp. "What you're seeing is real. Now hurry up and come apologize to your Uncle Yu!"

Then his voice rose with fury.

"No—that's too good for you! I won't bear the shame of being your uncle, you traitor! You punk!"

His Three-Tomoe Sharingan whirled, trembling with his rage. But still, the reality around them did not shift.

Itachi ignored Yu. His eyes fell instead on Izumi.

His body trembled ever so slightly. A storm of emotions surged in him—fear, shame, relief, even a fleeting happiness.

And beneath it all… shock.
