Chapter Six: Leirom
Eon was called by his superior for a moment and I took that as a chance to gather my thoughts.
After seeing the so-called Prince that they wanted me to change so he wouldn't turn into a beast, my mind practically just stopped processing. I think I just stared at the spot he walked on and Eon probably thought I was smitten by him which isn't a lie, but that wasn't the case.
The creator wants me to change two people sharing one body. A werewolf and an incubus. I think Waian won't be hard to change considering he looked nice enough, but what about his twin? That man created an orgy between strangers in the middle of a street!
"Just say you don't want me to go back to my family and stop giving me hope!" I screamed at the heavens, not caring about the looks I was receiving. "A year? I won't even last a year because I will be eaten by either of them. Or maybe even both!"
My shoulders slumped and all my hopes depleted in an instant. I feel so helpless and angry.
'But will you give up just like that?' Something inside me asked and I straightened.
"No," I raised my head with a determined look on my face. "I will go back to my family. I don't care who they are or what they will do to me. I will succeed."
"Who are you talking to?"
I whipped my head around and I was shocked to see Eon standing behind me with a confused look on his face.
"No one. I was talking to myself," I cleared my throat and fixed my uniform. "Are you done?"
"Oh, yes, and I have good news! You said you were a stable boy before you came here, right? Guess what? They just had a vacant position for you!" He said brightly and I hid the disappointment from my face.
"Yay." I replied blankly and let him drag me to God knows where.
The stable is too far from the Prince's palace and Eon said that Waian rarely visits that place! How will I get closer to him?
Eon dragged me to the stable and introduced me to Lord Zen who was in-charge of it. I could tell he didn't like me because of my appearance just like Pyxis did, but accepted me nonetheless because they needed an extra hand. I was given a new uniform. It was brown this time and it looked like a jumper, but I didn't care. As long as I don't look like a priest.
"Thank you for the tour, I guess." I thanked Eon as he accompanied me to somewhere I could change.
"You're welcome. I will visit you whenever I have the chance. I like you, Silas. Just try to get along with everybody, okay? Remember, don't pick a fight, know your place and know when to shut your mouth. I could tell you are not one who will easily admit defeat, but if I were you, I would learn to swallow my pride. Here in the palace and as a servant, pride will only get you nowhere. Good luck!"
He patted my back and skipped away while I just shook my head and continued to change. I kept my spirit up and I did whatever they asked me to. Just as I anticipated, they made me clean the horse's poo as a newbie. They thought they could pick on me, but they didn't know that I did all sorts of jobs just to get by.
"Hi! I'm Nini."
I looked up from the pile of dung I was cleaning to see a woman. By her uniform, I could tell she was also a servant in the stable like me.
"Silas." I smiled at her and picked up the pile using the stick and sack they gave me.
"You're cute." She told me while acting cutely and I gave her a weird look.
"You too, but you're not my type."
Her face showed disappointment as she realized what I meant. "Oh," she sighed and kicked a rock. "Just when I thought this place finally had a gem in a pile of poo."
I chuckled and continued working but she followed me around, much to my annoyance. I could tell she's a nice girl, but I didn't like being disturbed when I'm working. Plus, I need to think of a way to get closer to the Prince.
"I guess I just have no luck. Whether it's a prince or a stable boy."
"Or maybe you're just picking the wrong guy," I countered and went around her to pick up a pile behind her. "And what do you mean by the prince? Isn't he married or something? Or maybe you wanted to be his concubine or whatever?"
For some reason, the thought of him being married didn't sit well with me. There was a bitter taste in my tongue.
Nini giggled and helped me by holding the sack so I could easily pour the poo. "Silly. The prince is yet to marry because he has yet to find his mate."
"Mate?" I searched for Silas's memory. He knew the word, but didn't know the meaning. "What is a mate?"
"The one that our creator made for them. Their fated ones. One they couldn't live without. Technically, us humans have a soulmate, but we rarely find one, but the creatures only have a mate for their whole life until they die. Isn't that romantic?" Nini gushed with her hands clasped together and eyes shining.
"What if they don't find them?" I asked in interest, the task at hand was forgotten.
Her hands fell and she sighed. "They will die of sadness, but some choose to find a chosen mate."
I thought for a second and one question popped in my mind. "In the prince's case, would he have one or two mates?"
"That is a question that no one knows the answer to, but as he has two souls, everyone is guessing that he will have two mates. How I wish it was me, but my eighteenth birthday passed and I'm still invisible to them."
Nini continued to ramble and rant about her failed love life but my mind went elsewhere. Her words triggered an interest on my part aside from the mission I was tasked with.
A mate, huh?
Lunch came and we were called to gather. Everyone ate at the same place and Nini stuck to me like glue. Thanks to her nosiness, I was able to find out more. About the creatures I had to deal with, the palace and... the prince. I pretended I didn't care but every word she said about him entered my mind.
Some group of men around my age tried to pick up a fight by taunting me, but I ignored them. Not only because Eon warned me, but because I knew I wouldn't win against them anyway. They gave up in the end when they realized I wouldn't fight them.
My day continued with me cleaning the big-ass stable by myself, smelling like I haven't showered in a week, and a new co-worker who didn't stop pestering me.
I learned that people here don't give a damn about labels and that is why she didn't have much reaction when I told her she wasn't my type. You are simply attracted to one gender and that's it. Homosexuality isn't frowned upon nor accepted especially in creatures. Because in this era, reproducing is still their priority.
In short, you can fūck around, and even love the same gender, but you must reproduce.
When the job was done, I showered with the others and decided to walk around before going back to my quarter. I walked along a beautiful pond and admired it. And when I saw the sun setting, I stopped to watch it.
I sat on the grass with my legs crossed and admired the beauty of the sunset. That is what I learned about life. We are always in a rush. Always in a hurry to get home after a long day. But if you don't stop to admire a beautiful view, what have you been doing with your life?
I was so engrossed by it and I didn't even realize that I had fallen asleep. When I woke up, it was already dark and I stood up in panic.
Shīt! The curfew!
I cursed myself as I ran to the direction of my quarter and cursed some more because I couldn't remember which way it was. It didn't take long for me to find out that I was lost.
A shiver ran through my body when I felt the familiar feeling of eyes on me. My heart beat faster and I looked around but couldn't find anyone.
"Ah, a lost bunny." A familiar voice said and I looked up at a tree and I stopped breathing.
Because right on top of the tree was Leirom in all his glory. He jumped down without making any sound and I was captivated by how he looked. He was only wearing a black robe and his toned abs were on full display.
"We meet again, human. Didn't they warn you not to go out at night because you might encounter a hungry predator? And I'm very much hungry."
Before I could blink, he was on me in a second and my breath was caught on my chest.
