Chapter 1 - The fool who flew too close to the sun

Helios, the god of the sun. riding his golden chariot, drawn by four fiery horses across the sky to bring day.

He is one of the great gods with one of the most important jobs of all. Many humans and gods respect and worship him. But, what if i don't, what if i want to win, what if i want to be better than him.

The answer that came to me was to somehow reach him, to grasp his arm and pull him down.

He has always been in the sky, above everyone else. And I know that he isn't, I know he's just as pathetic as us.

I ran into my father's workshop requesting a wing that could help me reach him, he hesitated but eventually agreed.

Each day I wait for the wing, I stare for hours at the rising gleam, slowly revealing itself from the darkness.

Days turn to weeks turn to months. I stared and stared in hatred at him, but it started to change. Hatred turns into interest, and interest turns into admiration.

The people I so despised, I became just like them.

My father tapped on my shoulder, showing off 2 pairs of wings made out of metal. I smiled knowing I could finally meet him.

We walked to the nearest cliff and took off, souring through the sky like we're its inhabitants.

I looked up at the shining star, my father warned me to not fly too high, but curiosity took over me. I flew and flew, going higher and higher. I hold my arm out, reaching to grab him.

Then a feather fell, one feather, to two, to three. Falling off one by one.

I panicked, but thenI felt a warm sensation, the hot wax keeping the feathers together, burning into my skin. I cried in pain, but even then I smiled. The wax felt like a hug from Helios, scorching, but comforting.

And when I fell, I laughed and laughed, filled with joy and pain. I know that he will remember my name, as the one who almost reached him. I know that to fall requires a great rise. I know that I will be remembered as the fool who flew too close to the sun.

My body slammed into the sea, sinking deep into the abyss.

All I could see was the silhouette of my father, reaching for my hand.

But do not save mefather, for I, have been saved.
