Chapter 8 - Gathering 2

Alina's pov

Throwing my position in the air, I ran towards Leon jumping on him but I knew the dog wasn't far from me.

After a while, nothing happened. My hand was wrapped firmly around Leon's neck, and my legs wrapped around his torso.

"I-is it still there?" I slowly opened my eyes to look at him, he nudged towards something behind me and as I turned, the dog was staring at me with soft blue eyes as it pulled on my dress.

"Heyy, let go" I said as I tugged on the dress, the dog didn't let go but even pulled harder. Leon chuckled as I slowly noticed I was still wrapped around him.

"I-i'm sorry" I muttered as I unwrapped myself from his body, stepping down as I looked at the dog. When I stepped on him, i was shocked to the bone, it might have gotten agitated through that but now it looked like a harmless dog. I rubbed the dog's fur as it pushed his head more into my touch.

"That's enough, Alina" Leon finally spoke, the hurried footsteps of two figures made me stop petting the dog.

"Oh my gosh, what is a dog doing here?" The lady who held a glass of wine on hand shrieked as she stared at it, as if it was some sort of wild animal.

"Go" I motioned for the dog to run, it looked at me reluctantly but later turned in an opposite direction before dashing off.

I stood straight, dusting my dress as I turned to the woman. "It's none of your business"

Her gaze changed from disgust to annoyance. I just smiled at her politely as I felt Leon's hand on my waist pulling me close.

"If you don't mind, we would like to head back into the hall" Leon didn't wait for them to reply, he walked away pulling me along with him.

"Do you think they know?" The woman suddenly turned to the man beside her, he had been quiet throughout the exchanged but she just got a smirk in return.

We got back into the hall, just in time to see a masked man climb on stage, the chatters and movements seemed to pause as I turned to the stage.

I felt Leon's grip on me tighten, why though?

My heart was racing against my ribcage as the man cleared his throat. "Welcome ladies and gentlemen to this humble gathering. I hope everyone has been enjoying their time"

He paused as his eyes swept through the crowd as if looking for someone and as it passed me, he slowly paused turning to look at me with a smirk.

"To make this gathering a big more exciting. Let's go straight to the point. Bring it in" He motioned or rather, said to someone and the door's burst open.

Two guards walked in with a large wooden chair, placed it at the center of the room and stood on each side of the chair.

"The son of the minister of education, please step out with your partner" The man said, his eyes going to look at Archer who was slightly confused but stepped out with a frail and petite woman hanging onto his arms as they came to stand in the middle of the room.

"The political world is brutal and cunning. We're going to carry out a little display, after Archer shows a demonstration. All men in the room would do the same" The man said, I shuddered at his words, I had no idea when I took a step back but I did.

One of the guards pulled out a black revolver from his pocket handing it to Archer. The other guard grabbed Archer's companion shoving her into the chair as they strapped her to it. "It's simple, this woman is a threat to your father's position. Kill her"

I watched colour drain from Archer's face as he turned to look at the woman, tears flowing out of her eyes as she shook her head, almost begging.

"I can't do this. She's my fiancee ans she's pregnant for God's sake" Archer yelled as he turned to the man who was leaning on his palm.

"Tch, weak" He pulled out a guy from God knows where and aimed it at the woman. He pulled the trigger without hesitation and I felt my legs go weak but Leon held me firm to prevent me from falling.

"P-please, my baby" The woman was shocked as she stared at her stomach. Archer looked like he would pass out, blood had splashed on his face and he couldn't believe it.

"We need to go" Leon said as I turned to him. I had no idea if we could escape this, was he going to kill me? "Don't even think about that, if you want to live do as I say"

"Ladies and gentlemen, the task is simple. Kill the woman you came with and we'd be done with this engagement...of you're a lady that brought a man, kill him" I could feel the darkness practically oozing out from this man.

What the fuck is this?

I watched as screams erupted beside me, Leon frowned as he looked at the door. "Take off your heels"

My heart was racing but I did as I was told. I had no idea the masked man was watching us intently but he didn't do anything.

"At the count of three, run towards the door without looking back" Leon said but I shook my head. I couldn't leave Charmaine here.

Of course I never liked her but wishing her dead was just cruel. "We're going together"

"1"

"2"

"3"

As I heard her shout threw, I turned towards the door and ran out of it like my life depended on it. We were almost at the door when a gunshot echoed through the air.

I turned to look at the masked man, he had a smirk on his lips and a bullet was literally flying through the air, few feets away from me.

Everything suddenly went slow. I turned to look at Charmaine with a weak smile.
