Chapter 7 - DTCD [7]

Kai slotted a card into his Duel Disk.

"I activate the Spell Card [Power Bond] from my hand!"

"I Fusion Summon 1 Machine Fusion Monster using monsters from my hand or field as materials."

"[Cyber Dragon Vier] also has the effect to change its name to 'Cyber Dragon'!"

"So I fuse [Cyber Dragon], [Cyber Dragon Vier], and [Cyber Dragon Core] on my field!"

"Come forth—[Cyber End Dragon]!"

The roar of mechanical gears echoed across the battlefield. Silver-white metallic scales reorganized within the fusion vortex, and a three-headed dragon gradually emerged behind Kai.

[Cyber End Dragon] Level 10│LIGHT│Machine│4000 ATK

"Also, a monster Fusion Summoned with [Power Bond] gains ATK equal to its original ATK!"

The triple-headed dragon expanded massively.

[ATK: 8000 / DEF: 2800]

"Tch, so what? A mere 8000 ATK still falls far short of my [King of the Skull Servants]!"

"And don't forget, [Power Bond] comes with a downside! During the End Phase, you take damage equal to the amount of ATK gained by its effect!"

Karthus tried to sound mocking, but the tension in his voice was evident.

Marina, on the other hand, was brimming with excitement.

She suddenly remembered—the Cyber Dragon deck had a Quick-Play Spell that could double its own ATK!

Now the question was: did Kai have that card?

"I told you, don't rush it."

As Marina watched anxiously, Kai slid another card into his Duel Disk.

"I activate the Quick-Play Spell [Limiter Removal] from my hand!"

"Double the ATK of all Machine monsters I control until the End Phase."

"Although they will be destroyed at the end of this turn…"

Behind Kai, the mechanical wings of [Cyber End Dragon] spread wide, gusting a powerful wind. Its body grew even more colossal, like a steel titan towering into the sky.

[ATK: 16000 / DEF: 2800]

"16000 ATK?!"

"He can control a monster that powerful?!"

Even Marina's eyes flickered with awe.

A monster with 16000 ATK—that was several times stronger than her own [Blue-Eyes White Dragon].

"It doesn't matter!"

"My [King of the Skull Servants] can't be destroyed by battle!"

Karthus's roar yanked everyone back to reality.

Indeed, Kai's monster now surpassed [King of the Skull Servants] in ATK. However, not by a huge enough margin to guarantee victory in one turn.

And both of Kai's Spell Cards came with drawbacks.

If he couldn't end it here and now, he'd be in danger.

"Heh, who said I was attacking your [King of the Skull Servants]?"

"[Cyber End Dragon], when attacking a Defense Position monster, inflicts piercing battle damage equal to the difference between its ATK and that monster's DEF!"

"What?!"

Ignoring Karthus's shock, Kai smirked and waved his hand.

"[Cyber End Dragon], attack [The Lady in Wight]!"

Power surged from the three dragon heads, gathering into blazing orbs that ripped through the darkness cast by Karthus.

The entire battlefield lit up like midday.

"Evolution End Burst!"

The three streams of white energy merged into a blinding beam.

[The Lady in Wight] vanished in an instant, as if her DEF never existed.

And the light didn't stop there—it engulfed Karthus as well.

"NOOOO!"

His anguished roar echoed as he was erased by the light.

In his place, a pile of scattered cards remained.

Kai walked over and picked them up. Nothing of much value—just standard Wight archetype cards.

Only three cards floated above the pile, shimmering with golden light.

Kai flipped them over.

Three copies of [Called by the Grave].

A powerful and versatile card—top-tier tech in any deck.

Even so, the problem was, Kai already ran two in his Cyber Dragon deck.

Why not three?

Didn't want to?

You try playing Cyber Dragons and getting your entire play shut down by a hand trap!

He would've run three if he could, but it was semi-limited—you could only run two. Now he had three. At most, he could swap in the third.

The other two? Basically useless.

Footsteps approached.

Kai turned around to see Marina and the others coming to his side.

"Congratulations."

Marina spoke softly, eyeing the three glowing [Called by the Grave] cards with mixed feelings.

This was the very reason she had come.

The Duel scene was getting harsher. Not only were Trials harder… so were the Duelists.

Many carried hand traps that could disrupt your entire play just by being discarded.

That's why [Called by the Grave]—a card that could banish a monster from the opponent's Graveyard and negate its effects—was so vital.
