Chapter 3 - The Magician

Creak!

Pluvia stepped past the doors as they shuttered close behind her. Her eyes were immediately met with the familiar sight of the maids running back and forth, setting plates of food on the large wooden table. It stretched from one end of the room to the other; every inch of it was covered in a luxurious tablecloth and shining dinner sets.

Her family sat at their seats on the far end of the table, and Pluvia hurried to sit beside them. At the end of the table was her father, Rimuru Tempest. He wore a simple white dress shirt and black pants with black boots. His silverish-blue hair was tied back into a ponytail, giving him a more feminine look. At first glance, no one would be able to tell he was a man.

To her father's right was her mother, Chloe Tempest. Originally bearing the last name of Aubert, Pluvia's mother had married Rimuru and changed her last name after it was discovered that she was pregnant with Pluvia.

To her father's left was an individual who looked almost identical to him. Lady Ciel was her father's closest confidant and someone Pluvia looked up to a lot. She wore a simple white dress, and despite being almost identical to Rimuru, save for her red eyes compared to his gold, she gave off an entirely different aura. While Rimuru gave the feeling of a kind, clumsy fool, Ciel gave off an immense coldness. Even when she smiled, Pluvia couldn't help but shiver slightly at her sheer presence. It was because of this that Pluvia couldn't help but find Ciel to be super cool! Oh, how much she wished to be as cool and confident as Ciel~!

Beside her mother's side was another child. The boy was clearly younger than Pluvia and was desperately trying to squirm out of his chair. Chloe's hand gripped his shoulder and was effectively stopping him from leaving. Pluvia's brother, Tamura Tempest, was six years her younger. He had short navy-blue hair and gave off the air of a delinquent.

Pluvia made her way alongside the table before sitting beside her brother. The young boy stopped his attempts at squirming off his seat and switched to trying to go to her seat. Pluvia stuck her tongue out at the boy as he pushed against their mother's hand in a bid to get to her. Ever since he came into being, he seemed to hold a vendetta against her. She could tell that if her mother let Tamura go, he would try to take her seat.

" Pluvia, stop antagonizing your brother. "

Ciel chastised her actions quickly.

" But he's such a loser~ "

Pluvia immediately felt her mother's hand tap her head lightly. She hadn't even noticed when it had moved from her brother to her.

" Don't call your brother names, Pluvia "

Her father chuckled lightly as he watched her pout.

" Come now, Pluvia~, you're a big girl, right~? So, you shouldn't be fighting with a child anymore, right~? "

" Hmph~... I'm not fighting with him...just ... establishing the hierarchy. "

Her family shook their heads, exasperated by her behavior, as they returned to their conversation from before she entered.

" As I was saying, you should really just beat the sh--..." Chloe glanced at the two kids before turning back, " Ahem... you should 'kindly persuade' those fools to just let you take control of it all, Rimuru."

Rimuru shook his head lightly, " How many times do I have to say this, Chloe, I'm not going to forcefully take control from them ... I mean, they have had it for centuries; it is rightfully theirs."

Ciel spoke with a sigh, " And what good has come from that? They had their chance. Obviously, they suck at ruling, and it only makes sense that you should take the lead. "

Rimuru groaned, " But all the paperwork that'll come with that... "

The two women by his side laughed at his plight.

Pluvia listened with confusion as they spoke. " U-um ... what are you talking about? "

Her eyes filled with childish curiosity as she leaned in closer to them.

" Sit down properly, Pluvia. " Ciel spoke first.

" It's nothing you need to worry about, dear " Chloe said at the same time.

Pluvia pouted as they pushed her out of the conversation. While it was annoying, she knew she couldn't do anything about it, so instead she focused on eating her food.

Plop!

Pluvia groaned as Tamura's hand splattered food across the table. She glanced at her parents and found them too engrossed in their conversation to have noticed. With a sigh, Pluvia laid her cutlery down and slid out her chair, no longer feeling hungry.
