Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

{Note this is a 'short' chapter no MC. Like always if you see mistake let me know so I can correct.}

Harley Sawyer POV

"Incredible, such efficiency, such..progress. This individual maybe the perfect subject for our next experimentation. His physical anatomy could without a doubt hold secrets that will boost my research by weeks, if not years. We-"

Harley couldn't finish his speech to this wasted person, who they called 'assistants'. These people couldn't get anything right, and if wasn't for him then they wouldn't even know the first step in how to do the experimental procedure. It was a miracle they even got degrees, in of itself. But, science waited for no one individual and was constantly on the move. If continuing my research, was only briefly shackled by these dimwitted individuals then it was a sacrifice I was willing to partake in.

The assistants had their uses. They didn't squirm at the experimental, nor did they talk about them. They only followed orders, as should be in science and progress.

"Harley, you told us that you would have something. Our company can`t keep this…your research up. WE.NEED.SOMETHING."

Leith`s voice was as usual, loud and obnoxious. Him and his group, didn't see what I saw. They couldn't look past the logical fact that money, meant nothing in what I was doing here. What I could accomplish here.

"Leith, I told you multiple times before that my research and experimentation would take time. When you hir-"

"When I hired you, YOU told me that you would get results. That YOU would help us cut cost with this 'Bigger Bodies' the only thing I and this company has seen is a money hole. And, Ha, your behind schedule…again."

"Well..I wouldn't be behind schedule, as you say. If your minions, whom you call 'staff' could actual do something right. They have slowed down the amount of subjects I am usually given. So, if there is anyone to blame it's them"

"Excuse Harley. I thought you said you were better than that. The only thing I see is a project that has drained our resources with barely anything to show for it. As for getting you subjects, I have already hired more better-quality employees. They will get you what you need. BUT, you better get us results Harley or els-"

"Or else what Pierre? Fire me? Ha. You fire me, and the whole world will know about how this lovely company Playcare was really doing. And, you certainly can`t kill me. You and I both know that without me, these so called 'scientist' and 'assistants' are useless. Face it Pierre you need me here, and as I am loath to admit I need your money."

"Fine. Then what do you need"

"This child Max, he did well on each of the test that was performed. He could be the key to accelerating my research by a substantial amount of time. I wouldn't be 'behind schedule' as you have said with him."

"This better work Sawyer"

With that Leith walked out of the room.

THIRD POV

That suffocating, money parasitic, bastard. Leith couldn't help himself from cursing that man[sawyer] down to his entire being. Leith knew that he shouldn't have hired him. Ludwig, Leith believed was right in kicking Sawyer out of the young genius program. Leith regretted it, and thought that he should have followed in Ludwing footsteps in management, but its too late for regrets now. Leith knew that he was in too deep with Sawyer. Harley knew that he couldn't do anything to him.

He walked down the halls, thinking that maybe this Max child could help in sawyer research or at the very least help with the company`s financial situation. The company needed something new, something that would bring it into a new age. The investors and directors were getting impatient. They had warned him and his staff that if they couldn't get anything soon, then they would start cutting.

The Playtime Co, stocks were already starting to lose numbers, and with the news about Ludwig and that damn kid they found it was starting to get worse.

Leith thought about the toy designs that had been brainstormed about, but nothing was going to be as big as Poppy or Huggy. And, that was a big problem.

He finally made his way into his office, and sat down on his chair. It had been a long day for him, and he needed to be ready in case any investors called about how the company was doing.

His phone started to ring.

"This is Leith Pierre speaking"

"Sir, we have some documents for you to sign."

"Well, what are you waiting for bring it to my office now."

He hung up the phone, and didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes before a staff member knocked on his door

"Come in"

"Sir, these are the documents I-I hmm, that hmm Issac had call you about. He, wanting me to be the one to hand it t-to you."

"Give them here"

"Yes sir"

The staff member was a young looking caucasian man, whom was probably either the new guy or the assistant`s assistant. He looked like a nervous wreck, one way from a full blown panic attack. Leith knew that either meant that the paperwork was something he didn't want to see or there was bad news somewhere. He didn't like either of those options. So, before the young man could leave the office Leith said

"Stay here. And wait right there"

"Y-y-yes sir"

He did as Leith instructed him to do, and waited for him to get through all the documents. Once he was done sorting through the documents Leith looked up at the assistant and said

"What am I suppose to be looking at here?"

"W-well sir, Its..a contract and a re-"

"I know, I can read perfectly fine. I am asking You. What. AM. I. Looking at?"

"I-I"

"Stop talking and get me Harrison..NOW!"

"S-sir"

The assistant left his office faster than he thought possible of someone. Leith had read and re-read the contract multiple times. It was the most asinine contract he has ever read in his life. It looked like it was made by a dim-witted, slow person or was rushed into the making. The fact that it had somehow made its way into his office, was the thing he didn't like. Someone was going to get fired.

'knock'

'knock'

"Come in"

"You wanted to see me sir"

"Mr. Harrison, you worked for this company for some time yes"

"That's correct sir"

"And, in that time I haven't had much problem with you or how you handle things"

"No, Sir you haven't"

"So then please tell me what this is doing on my desk!"

He toss the contract or if it could even be called that on his desk where Harrison could see it.

The pages are sprawled out on the desk after having been thrown. It was a contract that had been made between Max, and the attending observation. Max had refused to cooperate until the contract was signed by the executive and wouldn't take a "No" for an answer. The contract ran that not only would Mommey loglegs, Kissy Missy, and PJ be given access to the orphanage, but it also stated that Max would get a sewing machine. Alone time with each individual for a certain period of time, and that on Saturday all three individual would be given free rein of the orphanage as a "Fun" day. This contract also stated that future automatic and 'robotic' toys could come and be a part of the "Fun" day, and that they should be given a schedule to interact with the orphans on a case-by-case basis.

Harrison knew that the moment he saw it, he didn't want to bring it to Mr.Pierre. That's why he had the new guy do it. Not only that but it took the observation a long time to get him to even bother reading the damn thing.

"It was a contract made by the orphan Max bell, and the observation team sir"

"Why, and who authorized this."

"No one did sir"

"Then cancel this stupid thing, and-"

"Sir…please. Listen."

"What?"

"This Max kid he is smart, really smart. From what the observation team told me, is that he was able to calm the other experiments down. He got them to listen to him, and not only that but he is popular with the other kids. He has been telling stories, and working on something that might help us"

"And, what could that be"

"Something he called a 'Pokemon' sir"

Leith thought about what Harrison had told him, and he also thought about his company. Leith knew that working with people whom thought themselves 'smart' or 'genius' could be both beneficial and a down right curse. The fact that Max was able to calm down the other experiments, and get them to listen to him peaked Leith interest. He also knew that Sawyer wanted Max, and Leith wouldn't admit it out loud, but he despised Sawyer. If he could do something like preventing him from getting a new 'genius' then all the more better he thought to himself.

Maybe it was time to jump ship.

"Very well.. I will give this a chance. But, if this fails or backfires Mr.Harrison then I hope you are ready to face the consequences."

"Yes, Sir"

Harrison left the office in a hurry after he was dismissed. Leith figured that it was better to have two of these 'genius' playing off each other. It would give Sawyer a reason to act do his job, and it would also maybe put push on him. As for Max, he could be the key to getting this company back to where it should be.
