"Miss Potts, may I have a word with you?"
Agent Phil Coulson, looking troubled, pushed through the crowd and approached Pepper Potts.
Pepper Potts was Tony Stark's secretary and someone Tony Stark trusted implicitly.
He'd had a terrible time recently, losing all his memories from Afghanistan. He woke up to find himself in just a pair of shorts on the streets of Kabul. Worse still, according to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s records, he'd used his authority to transfer eight million dollars to a temporary account.
After the transfer, the account was closed, and even S.H.I.E.L.D. couldn't trace it.
If Director Nick Fury hadn't trusted him so much, he might have been in jail, or at least stripped of his agent status.
Because of his mistake, S.H.I.E.L.D. knew nothing about what had happened in the mountains of Afghanistan.
S.H.I.E.L.D. desperately wanted to know how that mysterious sinkhole had appeared. They hadn't found any trace of nuclear radiation at the scene. Such a powerful weapon appearing on Earth meant they had to investigate.
The eyewitness, Tony Stark, was key. Phil Coulson needed to get a report from Tony. Unfortunately, since returning from Afghanistan, Tony Stark had become almost reclusive, shutting himself away in the basement of his Malibu villa, making it impossible for S.H.I.E.L.D. to contact him.
This press conference was a rare opportunity.
"I'm not a spokesperson. The press conference is about to end. You can make an appointment if you have questions," Pepper Potts refused. In her mind, she'd already marked this bald reporter with an X. Tony Stark only saw reporters who were attractive, blonde, and blue-eyed.
"I'm sorry, I'm not a reporter. I'm Agent Phil Coulson, and I work for the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division."
Phil Coulson introduced himself. "We'd like to ask Mr. Stark to describe in detail how he was rescued in Afghanistan."
"I'm sorry, the DOD, FBI, and CIA have already contacted us. You can request a report from those departments."
After the events in Afghanistan, Tony Stark had become closely connected with the Department of Defense. Although he'd been in the basement, he'd held several online meetings with high-ranking government officials and even obtained a lot of secret information from the DOD, including a significant portion of the military's research on mutants.
In his report, he didn't hide anything and truthfully described the terrifying power of "Moke Wuliang."
"We're an independent department with more concentrated authority," Phil Coulson explained. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s position was somewhat awkward. While basically controlled by the U.S. government, it was also an international organization in nature. Therefore, departments like the CIA and FBI wouldn't share information with S.H.I.E.L.D.
"I'll arrange a time for you," Potts noted in her notebook.
"Thank you," Phil Coulson said.
Tony Stark soon finished his speech. The main purpose of this press conference was to announce Stark Industries' next business strategy and boost the stock price, which had plummeted due to his kidnapping.
He needed more funds to push the plan forward.
"Hello, Mr. Stark, I'm a reporter from CNN. I'd like to ask why Mr. Obadiah Stane isn't at the press conference," a reporter blocked Tony Stark's path as he was about to leave. "There are rumors that he was behind your kidnapping. Is this true or false?"
Obadiah Stane, who was usually very active, didn't appear at this press conference, which piqued the reporters' curiosity.
"Stane just has some health problems. He's still the person I trust the most. He just needs to spend some time in the hospital," Tony Stark explained. He quickly left the press conference under the protection of his bodyguard, Happy.
"Back to Malibu directly," he said, sitting in the back seat, holding a tablet and modifying the MK2's design blueprints.
"Tony, you can't stay in the basement anymore. The shareholders are very unhappy with you working with the CIA to restrict Obadiah Stane's freedom. You need to come out and explain to them," Pepper Potts said with some unease. Lately, Tony Stark had made her feel very insecure.
"You decide these things, Potts. I've entrusted the company to you."
Seeing that Pepper Potts still looked unsure, Tony Stark reached out and took her hand in his.
"You don't need to explain anything to them. The CIA has all of Obadiah Stane's criminal evidence. The reason they haven't sent him to jail yet is just to ensure a smooth handover and prevent Stark Industries from falling into chaos. You just need to appease them for a while. Soon, I'll kick them all out."
That bastard Obadiah Stane actually hired a terrifying monster like Batman to try and kill him. If he hadn't been lucky, he'd be dead now.
"Potts, believe in yourself, you can do it."
Once they arrived at the mansion, Tony Stark went directly into the underground laboratory and manufacturing workshop. In just a few weeks, his basement had undergone a complete transformation.
The original garage was gone, replaced by a large electromagnetic acceleration rail. Next to it were a dozen chest armor modules, forged and shaped, made of different materials. These were various advanced materials he'd obtained through military and Stark Industries channels.
"Material 57, first test, impact force one hundred tons, speed six hundred meters per second, thirty rounds per second."
Stark stood behind a one-meter-thick bulletproof glass, observing the results of the experiment. This was data he'd calculated from the Green Goblin's information provided by the CIA, used as a hypothetical enemy for creating the MK2.
Ordinary hydraulic presses could easily achieve the Green Goblin's punch strength, but their power couldn't replicate his punching speed and frequency.
Only this electromagnetic acceleration rail, powered by the Arc Reactor, could fully simulate the Green Goblin's punch.
"Zzzt..."
Amidst the supercapacitor charging sound of the electromagnetic rail, a steel column forged from gold-titanium alloy was fired out.
"Boom!"
Material 57 barely withstood the impact of the first steel column, but quickly deformed and fatigued under the impact of the second and third columns, and was easily penetrated by the fourth.
Stark disappointedly drew an X on the tablet. A mechanical arm removed the chest armor module, which had a large hole punched through it, from the test bench, threw it aside, and replaced it with 58.
He knew Broly didn't only use physical attacks, he could also release various powerful energy attacks. These armor modules couldn't even block his punches, let alone those more terrifying energy attacks.
