Years of hunting and searching for food between the mantle and the pitch-black deep sea had granted Godzilla hearing far beyond what humans could possibly imagine.
Before Winston even began chasing the pod of whales, he had already distinguished the Ruilong submarine from the background noise of the ocean. Even the P-3C patrol aircraft circling in the sky could not escape his ears. He could even clearly hear the conversations happening inside the submarine.
Pretending not to notice, he drove the whale pod toward the waters where the Ruilong was located, forcing it to expose itself in panic—drawing nearby U.S. and Japanese forces into the area.
Their true targets were the Titan, and Tony Stark—the man who had designed and built the Titan.
After Tokyo was severely damaged by the Titan, both Winston and Norman Osborn were deeply wary of the Titan and wished to eliminate it as soon as possible. There were few weapons left on this planet capable of threatening them, and the Titan was the deadliest among them.
Cutting through the water at high speed, leaving a long streak behind him, Winston could clearly hear the sound of destroyer propellers turning in the water and the splash of sonobuoys being dropped by patrol aircraft.
He was intentionally heading in a specific direction.
In the Quinjet above, Natasha stared uneasily at the electronic map. Godzilla's route of movement seemed perfectly normal on the surface. After realizing he was surrounded, he circled around, trying to find a weak point in the encirclement. Once driven by torpedoes, he consciously headed toward shallower waters.
The hydrology of shallow seas was far more complex than that of the deep ocean. As long as Godzilla hid in underwater trenches or among seafloor ridges, he could evade sonar tracking.
Such maneuvers were completely logical for a former Navy SEAL commander.
"Where's the other Godzilla?"
After thinking for a moment, she voiced her concern.
"The remaining JSDF submarines are conducting vigilance around the surrounding area, all using active sonar. They should detect the second Godzilla immediately if it approaches. We must use this time gap—before the two Godzillas meet—to kill one of them first!"
Nick Fury naturally hadn't forgotten the second Godzilla. Even though the Titan had been heavily improved after the first battle, dealing with two Godzillas at once was still extremely difficult. Even with destroyers, jets, and bombers supporting them, it was nearly impossible.
"Let's hope everything goes smoothly."
Natasha pushed down her unease.
"Boom!"
Depth charges dropped by the P-3C patrol planes and bombers detonated one after another, raising row after row of bulges on the sea surface. Seawater burst upward in countless droplets under the massive shockwaves. The underwater explosions flashed white in a nearly continuous sheet.
The air filled with the stench of the sea.
Godzilla was swimming far too fast. Torpedoes, unless used in an ambush or fired head-on, could barely hit him. They could only calculate his trajectory and depth and drop massive numbers of depth charges in advance.
For this battle, S.H.I.E.L.D. had practically emptied the JSDF's entire stockpile of depth charges. Since the U.S. military had many advanced anti-submarine weapons, depth charges had long been retired. S.H.I.E.L.D. even urgently purchased a batch from Russia and China.
The seawater became murky, and the continuous blasts left the floating sonar buoys hearing only static.
Winston, submerged underwater, let out a scream. Water cannot be compressed—the shockwave struck him almost without any cushioning.
Even with his genes fully restored, he suffered considerable impact.
Clank!
The hooks securing the Titan to its carrier released, and the heavy machine plunged into the roaring sea.
The bulky frame glided in the air for a moment before slanting down into the water.
BOOM!
A deafening crash followed as tens of thousands of tons of seawater were blasted high into the sky, like a sudden storm.
The moment the Titan entered the water, the newly installed plasma-jet thrusters activated. Bright ghost-blue flames roared from the vents. Though not strong enough to let the Titan fly, the thrusters were more than sufficient to propel it rapidly underwater.
Anticipating a potential underwater confrontation with Godzilla, Tony Stark had made many additional upgrades, including waterproofing and a brand-new weapon.
It was a massive spear over a hundred meters long, with a needle-shaped armor-piercing tip. Under the Titan's immense strength, it could easily pierce several meters of steel. Inside the shaft was an Arc Reactor, capable of coating the spearhead with a razor-sharp plasma cutting flame, and after piercing the target's hide, releasing hundreds of millions of volts of electricity.
From data collected during the previous battle, Tony Stark concluded that strong electric shocks could disrupt Godzilla's internal discharge and storage cells, temporarily preventing him from firing his atomic breath or even immobilizing him. If the strike hit a vital point, it could even kill Godzilla outright.
To wield such a powerful weapon, Steve had undergone intensive spear combat training.
"Report system status, Veronica."
Steve monitored the surrounding seawater through the sensors.
"All systems nominal, Steve. Should I activate active sonar?"
In the water, the machine's phased-array radar was useless, but Stark had planned for that. A high-frequency active sonar was mounted on the head, passive sonar arrays on both shoulders and back, and six wide-aperture passive ranging sonars along the sides.
A rapid series of pings returned with reflected waves, instantly revealing Godzilla's position. Steve gripped the massive spear behind him.
"Accelerate! Veronica!"
Blue flames surged violently, propelling the Titan toward Godzilla at high speed. Layers of heavy seawater peeled away. Even inside the cockpit, Steve could hear the crushing roar of the ocean.
Seconds later, the low-light cameras mounted on the head captured the enormous silhouette of Godzilla.
The Titan held the spear with both hands, the plasma-lit tip glowing like a cold star in the dim water.
Handling such a devastating weapon required special technique. The armor-piercing spearhead, though made from ultra-high-strength alloy, could only be used for stabbing—any lateral force could snap it due to its specialized shape.
Cutting could only be done by the plasma envelope around the edges.
Vwoom!
Winston's massive form moved with shocking agility underwater. With a twist of his body, he dodged the direct thrust, the plasma leaving only a scorched mark across his surface.
The first strike missed—yet the Titan did not slow down. Instead, it sped away to reposition for a second thrust.
