Monica's POV
Felix dragged Morris toward the office while tears streamed down my cheeks. The moment they disappeared from view, I heard the doorknob turn softly.
Pierce slipped inside, pressing a finger to his lips.
"Mrs. Lorenzo, I'm sorry," he whispered urgently. "I don't know how he breached security, but we're handling it. Please go upstairs immediately - stay quiet, protect the children. My team will guard you. Police are en route."
"Morris! Pierce, that maniac is going to kill him!"
Panic clawed at my throat.
"I swear to you, ma'am, I won't let that happen. But I need you safe. I can't fail you again." Pierce helped me to my feet.
"This wasn't your fault," the nanny whispered shakily. She'd been at gunpoint when I'd entered the room. "Forgive me, Monica. He ambushed me at my car, held the gun to my head, hid in my backseat. I should have let him shoot me instead of bringing this here!"
