Seraphina's POV
I stumbled forward, my ice cream flying out of my hand as I lost my balance. My arms moved uselessly, and I braced myself to hit the ground when a familiar pair of strong arms caught me, pulling me against a solid chest.
I looked up, my heart pounding, and found myself staring directly into Adrian's eyes. His arms were wrapped securely around me, holding me close.
For a moment, neither of us moved. We just stared at each other, so close I could see the flecks of gold in his dark eyes, could feel his breath on my face.
"Are you okay?" he asked softly.
I nodded, unable to find my voice.
He didn't let go immediately. Instead, he looked at me with an intensity that made my breath catch, and asked, "I am sorry, Seraphina. I shouldn't have treated you like that..."
I simply stared at him, no words escaping my lips.
"Have I earned my forgiveness yet? Or do I need to work harder?"
