Seraphina's POV
After cleaning the champagne stain from my dress as best as I could, I headed back toward the banquet hall. But as I turned the corner, my dress snagged on something.
I tugged at it gently, trying to free the fabric, when I heard a voice nearby—quiet but clear enough to catch my attention.
"Yes, I mixed that into Mr. Blackwood's drink."
I froze.
My brows rose. Mixed something? Into Adrian's drink?
I looked up and saw the voice was coming from a room just ahead. The door was slightly ajar, a sliver of light spilling into the hallway. My eyes narrowed. I yanked my dress free and walked quietly toward the room.
The voice continued. "Yes. He drank it, and the medicine will start taking effect soon. I did what you asked. Now you do what you promised."
My heart pounded. Medicine? What kind of medicine?
I stopped just outside the door and peered inside. A young woman stood there, dressed in a waitress uniform, her back to me as she spoke into her phone.
