Chapter 168 - The Next Stop

Chapter 168: The Next Stop

The Astral Express sailed smoothly through the brilliant sea of stars. Orion stood by the massive window of the observation car, quietly watching the planet recede.

"What's wrong? Missing home already?" March 7th had approached without him noticing, tilting her head playfully.

Orion withdrew his gaze and shook his head. "No."

"Oh, I understand you!" March 7th patted his shoulder with an "I get it" expression. "If you miss home, just say so! My arms are always open if you need to cry!"

Night. The train's dining car was newly decorated with ribbons and balloons.

"Come, come, Welt, Pom-Pom, let me introduce you!" March 7th enthusiastically pulled Orion forward. "This is Orion, our reliable new companion, the great hero of Belobog!"

The man with glasses—Welt—pushed them up and carefully scrutinized Orion. "Welcome, Orion. We've all heard about your deeds. You are the most... special passenger I've ever met."

"Pom-Pom also welcomes you!" the conductor, Pom-Pom, scurried over. "Passenger Orion gives Pom-Pom a very reliable feeling! From now on, help me manage Passenger March 7th and Passenger Trailblazer!"

Soon, the welcome party officially began. March 7th stepped onto a makeshift stage. "Orion, this party is for you... and it's also your birthday party! I heard you're turning 18 tomorrow, right? Happy birthday!"

Everyone offered their blessings. Orion looked at the sincere smiling faces, and a soft spot in his heart was touched. "...Thank you all."

Just then, Himeko approached with a freshly brewed cup of coffee. She extended the dark brown liquid, which emitted an indescribable odor, towards Orion. "Come try the new flavor I specially created for you."

Orion's smile froze. It appeared! The ultimate trial, more terrifying than facing a Lord Ravager... Himeko's coffee!

"Uh, Himeko," March 7th darted forward, her expression stiff. "Orion just got on the train; this might be too high intensity..."

"What's wrong?" Himeko blinked innocently. "This is our train's custom. As a new member, Orion can't be an exception."

Orion felt his hands and feet turn cold. Just then, a hand suddenly snatched the cup! It was the Trailblazer! Under everyone's astonished gaze, she tilted her head back and drank the entire cup in a few gulps! After drinking, she even smacked her lips and flashed a brilliant smile at Himeko. "Thank you, Himeko, I was just a little thirsty!"

The entire room was silent. The Trailblazer is a tough one!

Her coolness didn't last. Her smile froze, and her complexion visibly changed from rosy to ashen. "I... I'll go get some water..." she squeezed out, then turned and dashed away like a stiff robot.

"To be so good to Orion, even daring to drink Himeko's coffee for him," March 7th muttered softly.

"It seems this flavor still has quite a kick," Himeko nodded thoughtfully, then turned back to Orion. "Then I'll brew you another flavor."

"No!" March 7th shuddered and immediately grabbed Orion's hand. "Uh, Himeko! I'll take Orion to see his room first!" With that, she pulled him away.

"Phew... that was close..." she sighed in relief in the safe guest car.

Recalling the Trailblazer's heroic yet panicked retreat, Orion couldn't help but laugh aloud. It seems, with these companions, the road ahead won't be boring.

The party's revelry lasted late into the night. Orion returned to his private room. The hustle and warmth faded, replaced by his usual calm. The time with his companions was interesting, even giving him a feeling of belonging. But this vast universe held too many dangers. Whether for his promises or for himself, he had to become stronger.

After midnight, it would be his 18th birthday. On this memorable first night, he could finally begin a new round of simulations.
