Chapter 19 - [Lost Memories] Chapter 18

Outside the city of Wangshen.

The Knights of Light surrounded the hooded Gu You and Lian Wu, clamor for routine checks. Gu You grabbed the most advanced knight by the neck and punched him in the face. The other knights drew their swords in an instant. At the same time, Gu You and Lian Wu took off their hoods.

"Yes... It's you... All the knights took several steps back timidly.

"Go and find your heads." Lian Wu took a step forward, and the knight in front hurriedly stepped back.

A knight, in a fluster, mounted his horse and ran towards the city. The other riders, still holding their swords, stood several steps away, not daring to advance but not retreating further.

"What are you looking at? All back to their posts, do what they should do!" Lianwu roared, being looked at like that by more than a dozen people, he felt uncomfortable all over.

None of the knights moved. Their duty was to check the people coming in and out, but seeing what was happening at the city gate from afar, who would dare to go in and out risking their lives? Some troublemakers also stand far away, watching the farce at the city gate and pointing fingers. Their guardian, the guardian of the holy land, the Knight of Light, was so frightened by the two men that he didn't know what to do.

"Why hasn't it come yet? Why are your people so slow?" Lianwu spoke in a tone similar to that of a knight's head, pointing at each knight one by one and cursing them, "Look at you, wearing knight's MEDALS, standing crookedly. You - yes, that is you. Is there anyone who wields a sword like you? Come here, come here. Let me teach you how to hold a sword."

Gu You stood aside and felt particularly twisted. This fellow, Lian Wu, was always so good at playing.

Two horses galloped across the street, raising a cloud of yellow dust as high as a person.

The horse stopped inside the city gate, and the knight commander on it grabbed the horse in a harsh tone: "What... You two again?"

Lianwu, who almost really went over to catch a knight to teach him how to hold the sword, gave up the chance to become a swordsman when the leader came. He said to the leader, "Yes, what if it's us? Not welcome? We came today specifically to see you."

"Looking for me? What are you looking for me for? Your accomplices... My friend wasn't killed by me. I was just ordered to lead the Knights of Light to guard the corpse. It has nothing to do with me." The regimental commander was a little scared.

Gu You patted Lian Wu and told him not to laugh anymore. He said to the leader, "We are not looking for you. We are looking for your head, Miss Prison slave."

The commander heaved a sigh of relief, "Miss Prison Slave is no longer our head. She is now only in the cathedral lecture notes."

Really, as the prison slave said, she has no authority now. Gu You asked, "Tell me, who exactly is a prison slave? Is the Soul warrior her subordinate?"

The commander remained silent and did not answer.

"Don't you want to talk?" "Lian Wu asked coldly.

"I don't know what the relationship is between the Soul Warrior and Miss Prison Slave. I'm not lying to you. All I know is that Miss Prison Slave is the Holy Messenger of the Church, of the rank of lieutenant bishop." The Knightly thought he was so pitiful that he used to force prisoners to answer questions himself, but today he was being pressed by two prisoners who had once been his.

Gu You doesn't know the ranks of the church, but he can guess that the Messenger of the Holy must be a considerable position.

This time, Gu You didn't even ask the regimental commander and directly replied, "Are you looking for the prison slave?" She should be preaching in the hall now. You... It's best to wear a hood before going into town, because you've become famous since the body was robbed."

Gu You and Lian Wu looked at each other and put on their hats. Lian Wu suddenly felt that the Knightly commander treated them as if they were old friends.

The two of them easily entered the city and walked straight towards the cathedral.

From a distance, the dome of the church could be seen, along with the statues of the eight true gods standing around it, looking at the holy city with kind eyes.

Outside the church gate, people were still coming and going. Many people passing by would stop and pray silently towards the main entrance, praying for the blessing of the true God. There are several young priests on the street outside, delivering the word of God and the doctrine of theism to everyone.

Gu You and Lian Wu entered the front hall of the cathedral, and the missionary's voice sounded distant in the spacious front hall.

"It's a man, not a prison slave." Lian Wu looked at Gu You and said. They were both coming here for the first time and had no idea about the layout of the church.

"Is it the commendatore who is deceiving us, or has the prison slave finished speaking and left?" Gu You said, "How about we ask someone?"

Then an old priest came over and said to the two, "Thank God for bringing you here."

Lian Wu smiled, but thought in his heart: Thanks to the Knight commander.

"Both of you, please sit down and listen to the preacher convey the word of God with a calm heart." The old man kept smiling.

Gu Yougang was about to ask directly where the prison slave was, but Lianwu snatched his words: "Yes, thank you, and thank God." He pretended to look at the high ceiling of the vestibule and said, "The church hall is so beautiful and so sacred!"

The old man waved his hand and said, "This is not the hall. This hall is the foyer. Beauty, sanctity, all bestowed by God. Thank our true God."

I went to the wrong place! Gu You asked, "So, may I ask where the main hall is?"

The old man said, "You are here for the first time and are not formal believers. You are not allowed to go to the main hall. Because the preaching in the main hall is very profound and you new believers cannot understand it. Not only will you not understand, but your confusion will undermine the true meaning of God. Young man, sit down and listen with your heart. May God bless you."

May God bless you not to stand in our way! Lianwu glanced sideways.

Gu You said, "We are not going there to listen to the sermon. We just want to go there after the sermon to pay homage to the might of God." Gu You thought this sentence was well-made.

The old man nodded and then pointed to the left side of the front hall, saying, "There is a door over there. Walk through that door into a long corridor, and then you can see the extremely sacred hall."

"Thank you. May God bless you." Lienwu also learned to speak like this. He thought, now that he knew the place, all that was left was how to get rid of the old man.

Just then, another group of people in all kinds of costumes came in from outside the door. The old man went over and there was another bunch of words of thanks and praise to God.

"Thank God!" Lian Wu almost laughed.

Gu You patted him, and the two of them hurriedly ran towards the corridor to avoid being caught by the old man.

"God spoke to us through the books they left behind, saying that all things are equal and all were made by God..." The soft voice of the prison slave came from the front of the corridor, as ethereal as a dream. For a moment, Gu You almost thought he was in a dream again. His heart was pounding a little, for he knew that this time he was looking for the prison slave because he and she were already enemies.

"Gu You, will you fight in a moment?" Lian Wu noticed that Gu You was walking more and more slowly and asked.

Gu You shook his head. He didn't know. Everything happened so suddenly that he couldn't imagine what the future held.

Lian Wu stopped and said, "Gu You, you are in love with her."

Gu You was so distracted that he mistook Lian Wu's words for questions. He froze for a few seconds and then said, "No... No. I'm just because... She saved us once... In Pero's dungeon... Then go to... My dream..." He pounded the side of his leg with his fist, not knowing what he was saying or what he wanted to say.

"I mean, you're already in love with her," said Lianwu.

 "We are enemies!"

Lian Wu said no more. Yes, they are enemies. Only hate, not love.

 No, but still love.

"Let's go. What is meant to happen will happen." Gu said.

The prisoner held the scripture, and today's lecture notes were much better than yesterday's, though sometimes there were some interruptions, but still better than saying nothing and just staring blankly to himself. The bishop in the blue robe stood by, smiling, seemingly feeling that he was worrying too much.

Gu You and Lian Wu walked into the hall and stood at the end of the rows of seats. There were many people sitting in the hall, all listening devoutly and earnestly to the prison slave's message of God's care and exhortation.

Gu You and Lian Wu stood at the back, and no one even noticed their arrival. Seeing so many believers, they did not want to disturb the prison slaves right now. Wait until she finishes speaking and then do what should be done.

"... God tells us to exalt His righteousness at all times. Though we are still in this world, we must still abide by the law of the kingdom of God, not deceive, not..."

The prisoner's expression was very concentrated, Gu You looked deeply at her, but felt that figure gradually blur. As if in his own dream, her figure slowly sank into the darkness. But her words remained in her heart: "Gu You, leave me alone, go..."

"... Always keep a humble heart towards everything... Everything..."

The voice of the prison slave broke, and the blue robe bishop looked away from the scripture in his hand, thinking that the prison slave was still a little nervous. But when he saw the expression on the prisoner's face, he found it was not as simple as nervousness. The prisoner's eyes were fixed straight on the end of the hall, and the scriptures in his hand slipped and fell heavily to the ground.

The bishop in the blue robe frowned and looked towards the end of the hall. All the believers also turned their heads, and some even stood up and looked back. But there was nothing there.

"Miss Prison Slave." The bishop touched the prisoner's arm.

The prisoner turned his head and said to the bishop, "Grandpa Bishop, I need to leave for a moment. Could you please help me go on?"

"Go, go." The bishop in the blue robe looked at the prisoner with some concern and said.

The prisoner ran from the pulpit to the aisle on the side of the hall and ran back. All the believers' eyes were fixed on her, following her as she swam. They began to whisper, but no one knew what was going on.

The bishop in the blue robe came from the pulpit to rescue the prisoners. "Please look at the scriptures in your hands, and I will continue from Miss Prison. God tells us..."

Fortunately Gu You and Lian Wu discovered that they had retreated back to the corridor in time, otherwise all the people in the hall would have noticed that two hooded men had entered the hall.

"How could he know it was us?" Gu You asked.

 Lian Wu made no reply.

Gu You went on, "Perhaps we are too suspicious. Dressed like this, she can't recognize us."

"Gu You -" The door at the end of the corridor was pushed open, the prison slave walked in, and then closed the door.

Lianwu whispered to Gu You, "Dressed like this, she really can't recognize us. But she can recognize you only by feeling, because you are already in her mind."

"Gu You, why are you back again? Didn't you say not to get involved again?" There was concern in the tone of the prisoner's reproach.

Since it has been seen through, there is no need to hide it. Gu You took off his hood and said, "I came to you to ask you a few questions."

To ask a few questions, presumably questions related to a deceased friend.

"Sorry for you, for losing command of the Knights of Light." Gu You said.

"Thank you." There was always so much estrangement between them, "Just ask if you have any questions."

Lianwu stepped aside and pretended to look at the pattern on the wall.

"I want to ask you, what is the connection between the Undead warrior and you? Are they your men?"

"I've already said that I don't know who they are, let alone their commanders. Of course, you can disbelieve me!" I still have Gu You's words in my heart, "I don't want to see you again," but so soon we meet again - still in a way I don't like.

"Then I ask you, is it because the soul warrior and the Dark Knight are chasing my friend, the remnant, that the remnant has black word stones on it?" Gu You raised his hand to the same height as the prison slave's gaze and held the stone in his hand.

The prison slave saw that the word "Remnant Soul" was engraved on the stone. She said, "So the stone is here with you. It seems the undead warrior did not wrongfully kill your friend."

Hearing the prison slave say this, Gu You was even more indignant. He suppressed his anger and said, "Then did the remnant really kill your red-robed bishop? I too was wrongly accused of killing a Red-robed bishop and almost met the same fate as the spirit."

"They said it was the one who did it. At least the real culprit is dead, and no one else in the world will be wrongly accused of being the real culprit." The prison slave pretended to be indifferent and kept repeating in his mind that there were still very important things he had to do. "Give me this stone," she said.

Gu You pulled her hand back and said, "Why you?"

"Because it's dangerous for you to hold it. The Necromancer and the Dark Knight only look at stones, not people."

"Danger?" I'm not afraid!" Gu You said. How could he be afraid to carry another one with him if he had one of these stones himself?

You are not afraid, but I am worried. The prisoner bit his lip and said nothing.

"I ask you, will anyone who has this stone be hunted down by the Dead warriors and the Dark Knights?" Gu You asked.

"Yes, they will kill everyone who owns this stone."

 "Why?"

The prisoner looked at Gu You for a few seconds before saying, "I don't know, and you don't need to know. I quit my mission and don't want to talk about the Souls Warrior and the Dark Knight again."

"Quit? So you're not going to hunt down anyone who has this stone, are you?"

A flash of light suddenly appeared in the prisoner's eyes, and she said coldly, "No? Why not? Although I quit the mission, that doesn't mean I give up the hunt. This is the most important thing for me."

"Well, what if I had a black lettering stone too?"

The answer is yes. But the prison slave did not answer. She felt that Gu You had deliberately provoked the war for revenge. Perhaps in a moment he might even say that the stone was originally his and that his real name was Remnant Soul. The prisoner turned away, trying not to quarrel, "But you didn't."

 "What if you did?"

Tears welled up in his eyes, and Gu You seemed to be forcing the prison slave to say that he would kill him.

Gu You put his hand into his pocket, unwilling to continue this meaningless question-and-answer game. He wants to tell the prison slave that he and she are enemies.

Suddenly, the door of the corridor was pushed open and a young man with black hair and a white robe walked in. "Prison slave." He gave a soft cry, then looked at the other two men, as if searching something in his memory.

"Your Lord Bishop." The prisoner lowered his head and said. She did not want the bishop of God to see the two streaks of tears on her face.

The bishop took a few steps forward, approached the prisoner, and looked at Gu You's white hair and pupils. He said slowly, "Prison slave, this is the man you're talking about. They caused a lot of trouble in the Knights of Light, and they also took away the body of the mastermind who killed the Red-robed Bishop."

Gu You opened his mouth, wanting to defend the dead soul and himself at the same time. He didn't rob the body of the soul. But just as he opened his mouth, he saw the prison slave give him a stern look. Involuntarily, he shut his mouth, holding back what was on the tip of his tongue.

The prison slave wiped away the tears and found that Gu You still held a black stone in his hand hanging on the outside of his thigh. He hurried over and stood in front of Gu You, facing the Bishop of God. She knew that if the bishop found the stone in Gu's hand, he would not ask if it belonged to Gu. She had seen the bishop's magic, and there was no hope of evasion for Gu You, or even for herself.

The bishop of God looked at the prison slave, her eyes still red, as if asking what she was doing?

"Your Excellency the Bishop, these two are my friends who have come to visit me today. The past is all a misunderstanding."

The prison slave put his hand behind him and grasped Gu You's fist. Gu You felt a slight tremor all over his body, a strange sensation spreading from his fist to his whole body. It was as if the lake that had been deposited for years had been miraculously stirred up by the wind, one ripple, one ripple, light and beautiful.

The close contact of hands conveys warmth to each other.

No words, but Gu You seemed to hear the prison slave saying: "Gu You, don't speak. I'll protect you. I'll take you away..."

It was like... That strange dream.

"Prison slave, I came to listen to your sermon, but I saw the Bishop in the blue robe taking your place. I thought you had run out again, but it turned out a friend was visiting." "But a friend's visit cannot interfere with God's work," said the bishop of God seriously.

The prisoner nodded slightly, "I'm sorry, Your Excellency."

The bishop said to Gu You again, "You can also go to the front hall and hear God's blessing. May God bless you and protect you."

Gu You wanted to reply, but the prison slave rushed ahead and turned to Gu you, saying, "Didn't you say there was still something to buy? Then go ahead and buy, and don't forget to buy my favorite phoenix fruit. Remember to pick the ones that are brighter in color. The green ones are very sour and can't be taken."

"Oh." Gu You had no idea what the prison slave was up to.

"Then go early. Oh, you're staying at the Tidal Inn on South Street, aren't you? I'll go there to find you when I finish my sermon. You need to finish your shopping quickly and then come back to the inn and wait for me."

"All right." Feeling the warmth from the prison slave, Gu You blushed slightly.

The prisoner let go of his hand and said to the bishop, "Sir, let's go back to the hall." Having said that, he strode out of the corridor.

The Bishop of God looked at Gu You, and a strange light flashed in his eyes, vanishing in an instant. "May God bless you, friend of the prison slave." He whispered.
