Chapter 57 - Grandfather and Granddaughter's Conversation

"Grandpa, do you know where we can find the things Xiao Hai mentioned?" Dugu Yan asked as she stood up.

They hadn't even found the necessary ingredients to cure the poison, what was the point of looking for someone?

"Could it be that you've thought of another way?" Her eyes lit up slightly as she looked at Dugu Bo with a blank stare.

If that were the case, Grandpa was amazing! Maybe he'd just been lacking inspiration before.

"Ahem..." Dugu Bo flushed slightly and quickly started walking toward the door, changing the subject as he went. "I have some items in my collection, but I'm not sure if they'll be useful. I'll take that kid to check them out later. Didn't he say he has to see them in person to tell?"

So, Grandpa has some things but doesn't know how to use them? Dugu Yan didn't say that out loud, she simply nodded and quickly followed him.

"I have to say, that kid's ideas really are wild and unexpected," Dugu Bo's voice came again, with a tone of wonder and admiration.

"Why didn't I think of that before?" he added, a hint of self-blame creeping into his voice.

If only he'd thought of it earlier and studied it more deeply... the corners of his mouth twitched bitterly.

"Grandpa, you don't need to blame yourself," Dugu Yan quickly comforted him. "Xiao Hai said it himself, his method is unconventional. Your research has always focused on poison. That's your specialty. It's perfectly normal not to have thought of something from another field."

Dugu Bo nodded slightly at her words and stopped dwelling on it. He continued, "We'll also go see that brat Yu Tianheng later. We'll need a spirit bone to detoxify the poison. His Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan is wealthy and powerful, surely they won't be short on a single spirit bone. Hmph. He wants to marry my granddaughter? Then it's time to show some sincerity. If he can't even produce a spirit bone, how dare he claim to truly love you?"

"Grandpa, a spirit bone isn't something he can decide on his own," Dugu Yan said quietly.

"Whether he can decide is one thing, whether he has the sincerity is another," Dugu Bo said flatly. "As the direct heir of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, he should at least be able to file a request, right? If he won't even try to fight for something that concerns your life, then how can he call himself a man? This is also a good chance for me to see where that clan really stands. Let's see if those old geezers are willing to give me, Dugu Bo, any respect. If they won't contribute anything, then I'll seriously have to reconsider your relationship with him."

"Hmph, I won't let my only granddaughter be bullied by a bunch of outsiders."

"Yan, it's not that I want to stop you from being with him," Dugu Bo stopped walking and turned to face her. "But look at Yu Xiaogang,he's a prime example. His father, Yu Yuanzhen, is not only the only Title Douluo of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan but also the clan leader. Yet even he couldn't keep his own son, who had no cultivation talent, within the clan. That just shows how rigid and backward their upper ranks are."

"That was the clan leader's own son. You, even if you marry in, will still be an outsider."

"More importantly, that brat isn't young anymore,he's an adult. He should understand what responsibility means. If he can't even fight for you when your life is on the line, how can I trust that he'll stand up for you in the future? Or for your children, when facing those stubborn old fogies in his family? How can I believe he'll be able to protect you?"

"I..." Dugu Yan was speechless. She had never thought about these things before.

"Alright, it's settled. When we meet, I'll speak to him myself. Consider it my test for him. You two have been dating for quite a while now,he should be able to face me by now," Dugu Bo turned back and resumed walking.

"In any case, I want to see his attitude. If he can step up like a man and fight for you, I won't make things too hard for him. But if he hesitates, acts unsure, or even shows dissatisfaction, then don't blame me for getting angry."

"Then... Grandpa, please don't ask for too much," Dugu Yan said nervously, no longer trying to argue.

"...My own granddaughter taking the side of an outsider?" Dugu Bo felt a blockage in his chest.

Who was he doing all this for if not for her? He just wanted to help her gain more. The higher the quality and age of the spirit bone, the greater the improvement in her strength. That way, once she married into the clan, her status would naturally rise.

In this world, strength is what speaks.

Besides, once she married into that family, she'd belong to them. The spirit bone wouldn't be lost. When people grow old or die, it could be passed down to the next generation. Furthermore, it wasn't even Yu Tianheng himself who had to provide the spirit bone,it would come from the clan. Did Dugu Bo, a dignified Title Douluo, not deserve some face? Was he not owed a bride price for his granddaughter?

Seriously, trying to save those old guys some resources?

I'm doing all this with good intentions, why don't you get it? Dugu Bo just felt mentally exhausted.

"Alright, alright. The specific requirements for the spirit bone's age don't depend solely on me,it also depends on our condition," Dugu Bo shrugged, passing the responsibility in a flash. "We'll ask that kid Yang Yunhai about it later."

"I won't ask for much, just one bone, and as long as it meets the minimum requirement, that's enough."

"Oh." Dugu Yan breathed a small sigh of relief and nodded slightly.

That afternoon, around 3–5 p.m., in the valley.

"Xiao Hai, I brought Grandpa over!" Dugu Yan called out as she stepped out of the forest path, then her expression froze.

Under the bright sunlight, Yang Yunhai was running up a steep slope, a rope tied around his waist, dragging a log as thick as a person's arms. Behind him, Zhu Zhuqing was doing the same, though the log she dragged was slightly smaller.

She suddenly realized, compared to Yang Yunhai and Zhu Zhuqing's training, her own daily routine was like child's play.

And the worst part? She'd thought she was training hard.

Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at her grandfather Dugu Bo and felt her face flush with embarrassment.

No wonder he could beat Yu Tianheng,Dugu Bo's eyes sparkled with even greater admiration.

Wuhun evolution played a part, sure, but without years of harsh training and a solid foundation, crushing someone with 31 levels of spirit power while being eight levels below would be incredibly difficult. After all, Yu Tianheng's Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Wuhun was one of the top beast-type Wuhuns on the continent, famous for its physical toughness and lightning attributes.

To be beaten by Blue Silver Grass, with a lower spirit level at that, honestly, Dugu Bo felt secondhand embarrassment for Yu Tianheng.

He was older by several years, had trained longer, and still got stomped by a rising star. What a disgrace.

And he's supposed to be the heir of one of the top three clans?

Dugu Bo's here? On the other side, Yang Yunhai heard the shout and immediately stopped, untying the rope at his waist and turning around.

There stood Dugu Yan, face slightly red, and beside her, a slender elderly man dressed in green armor from head to toe, with long green hair.

Green. Really green. The sight was bizarre.

He exchanged a glance with Zhu Zhuqing, then the two of them walked over to greet the newcomers.
