Chapter 175 - Chapter 175: Nayou's Little Black Notebook

Inside the Hokage Tower Office, the Third Hokage, who had been watching the crystal ball all day, raised his hand to rub his eyes.

"It's probably too late for anything to happen now. No, nothing will happen," he answered himself, convinced that Shen, who had slipped out of the Laboratory earlier today, wouldn't cause any trouble this late at night.

"Ahh, I'm getting sleepy," the Third Hokage yawned, stretching as he got up and left his office.

After staring into the crystal ball all day, he declared himself exhausted and ready to collapse onto his bed for a good night's sleep.

At 11:30 PM, following Shen's instructions, the staff at the Theme Park simultaneously lit up the fireworks.

"Peng?!"

The Ferris wheel cabin where Shen and Nayou were sitting rose to its highest point and came to a stop.

"Wow, it's so beautiful." Looking out the window, Nayou marveled at the colorful fireworks scattering across the night sky.

Through the reflection on the cabin glass, Shen could see the vibrant colors reflected in her white pupils.

This moment burned itself into his memory.

"Yeah, it's really beautiful," Shen said softly as he unconsciously captured these moments of beauty—the sincere smile on her face and the sparkling lights dancing in her white irises.

Nayou turned around and, seeing him staring at her blankly, thought she might have spoken too harshly just now.

"Thank you, Shen."

"Mm." Snapping back to reality, Shen realized he was being watched and quickly pulled himself together. "Nayou, there's no need to be so polite. We've been friends for seven years already."

"Seven years…" Nayou whispered softly.

She suddenly realized they'd known each other for seven whole years.

From the very first day of school when she was little, she had taken an interest in him. At that time, she had wanted to defeat him.

When they eventually fought to a draw, they became each other's first friend. Even until now, Shen remained her only friend.

"Shen really is quite extraordinary," she quietly mused to herself.

"Huh?" A confused Shen couldn't figure out what she was thinking right now.

After all, reading microexpressions basically meant guessing what someone was thinking based on tiny facial movements.

Since Nayou always wore practically the same expression every day, Shen had absolutely no way of figuring out her real thoughts from her microexpressions.

But he knew one thing—his best friend's mood at this moment must definitely not be a bad one.

On top of a high structure in the Theme Park, a female Anbu member took out a pen and scribbled something into a small notebook.

Two or three minutes later, she closed the notebook. Noticing that the two inside the Ferris wheel cabin didn't seem to have any further plans, she jumped off the structure and decided to return for some rest.

Under the glow of the moonlight, the cover of the notebook faintly revealed eight small words: [The Observation Diary of Shen Uchiha].

At one o'clock in the morning, at the entrance of the Hyuga clan compound, Shen dropped Nayou off here and turned to leave.

He naturally wouldn't dare to walk her all the way to her front door.

Shen had absolutely no intention of handing someone over to them—especially not after hearing how they kept talking about tying him up and hanging him at the gate. He couldn't even be sure if those hundreds of pale eyes were actually awake.

Maybe he'd dare do it only when he could single-handedly take on the entire Hyuga clan?

After watching his figure vanish into the night, Nayou turned around and walked back to the clan compound.

Before long, she was home.

Meide, who had been anxious all day, set the remote control aside. "Back already? That kid didn't bully you, did he?"

"Father, no. I'm going to rest in my room now."

Meide narrowed his beady eyes, silently watching his beloved daughter walk away.

Right now, he felt like bursting into tears.

"Shen Uchiha!!!" Clinging to that name in his heart, Meide shut off the TV and went back to his own room.

Nayou's room.

After opening the small black notebook on her desk, Nayou started reading carefully from the first page.

Konoha Year 26, March 10th. Shen didn't tell me the third person's name.

Konoha Year 26, March 20th. Even though I successfully became a Chunin, Shen asked me to keep watch while stealing his own family's sound device. It still made me feel a bit uncomfortable.

Konoha Year 26, April 3rd. Shen completed Team One's first mission alone, yet he wouldn't let me even touch that little kitten. He's such a stingy guy.

As Nayou read on, memories started bubbling up, pulling her back to those moments.

That time, the kitten had been black and white. As soon as she reached out to pet it, Shen had snatched it away into his arms, muttering something about it being unhygienic and needing a bath before touching.

Later, until returning the kitten to its owner, she had only been allowed to look but never touch.

"Stingy," pouting slightly, Nayou murmured a few soft curses.

But the sparkle in her eyes betrayed her cheerful mood no matter how hard she tried to hide it.

Konoha Year 27, January 15th. Surprisingly, Shen blew cold air from the sealing scroll onto himself. After reminding him, he finally knew how to direct the breeze toward me. He really lacks thoughtfulness.

Thinking back to that moment, Nayou couldn't help curling her lips upward.

She thought if it hadn't been for her timely reminder, they'd probably end up drenched in sweat trekking through the desert, just like Orochimaru and Nawaki used to.

Konoha Year 27, April 19th. In front of my very eyes, Shen actually chatted happily with that little girl from the Uzumaki clan. Moreover, their conversation seemed extremely suspicious—he might just be a pervert.

Seeing this, Nayou's face flushed lightly with shyness. With a blushing expression, she quickly flipped past this page.

Konoha Year 27, July 9th. Shen took that red-haired little girl to eat hotpot without inviting me along. He's the type who moves on from old friends way too easily when someone new comes along.

Now Nayou realized he did it to help the girl adapt to life in Konoha faster.

Not like she thought back then—that he just brought Kushina along for free hotpot.

Before flipping the page, Nayou pouted and muttered, "Hmph, I can definitely handle more spice than he thinks!"

"Konoha Year 27, August 16th. Shen hasn't visited me for an entire month—he's such a workaholic."

"Konoha Year 28, August 16th. It's been a full year since Shen came to see me. Has he forgotten about me?"

"Konoha Year 28, November 10th. After 451 days, Shen finally came to visit me—just casually saying we'd go to the theme park tomorrow. There's no way I'll forgive him easily tomorrow."

Thinking back on that year, Nayou's previously good mood turned gloomy. She knew Shen had been stuck with an order from Sunagakure and hadn't even had time to come see her.

But all year long, she just felt unhappy—like she'd been forgotten, though she couldn't quite explain why.

"Konoha Year 28, November 12th. Shen gave me a present today, but then he said I'm not suitable for him. What does that mean? Is it saying I'm not fit to be his friend?"

Nayou still doesn't understand the meaning of those words to this day. But confronting him over that? Absolutely impossible!

"If not friends, then—are we…?" Her thoughts trailed off as she lifted her small hand to cover her suddenly warm cheeks.

"No way. Shen probably didn't mean anything like that." Blushing, Nayou muttered softly before hurriedly flipping the pages of her little notebook.

"If he actually meant that, I won't talk to him ever again!" The fast-flipping pages showed just how worked up she really was.

Soon, the black little notebook reached its final page.

"Konoha Year 32, May 31st. Tomorrow's my birthday, and Shen says he's taking me to the theme park to celebrate. He even said my birthday and Mikoto's are on the same day. Like I care! Not like I'm excited about tomorrow or anything!"

After reading this page, Nayou gently closed the notebook.

She opened the drawer of her desk and placed it beside an older model camera, then climbed into bed, covering her head with the blanket.

Inside the drawer left slightly open, apart from the black notebook and camera, was also a stack of photos.

On the top photo, a little boy in a black trench coat and a little girl in a white kimono slept soundly face-to-face on a grassy field, eyes gently shut.
