A knock came softly at the door, firm enough to be heard but gentle enough not to startle anyone.
"Oh, you are already awake," Amelia's voice called from the other side.
Luther immediately hurried over and pulled the door open. His eager face appeared in the gap. "Yeah, we're up."
Amelia gave him a warm smile. "Good. Then it is time to get ready for breakfast."
Luther nodded but his eyes were already dropping to her ankle with obvious concern. "Mom, how's your foot? Did you sleep okay last night?"
Amelia leaned against the frame, smiling at his earnestness. "Much better, though it is still a little swollen," she admitted. "And yes, I actually slept very well without you three little troublemakers climbing all over me."
Her attempt at humor made Luther grin, but the concern never left his gaze.
