Chapter 43 - The human strike

🌙 Episode 43: The Human Strike

Lila's POV

The massive wolf's claws dug deeper into my shoulders, the pain sharp enough to blur my vision. Its fangs glistened, so close I could feel the heat of its breath.

I struggled, kicking and pushing, but it was stronger—too strong. My poker lay just out of reach on the floor.

"No…" I hissed through clenched teeth.

I twisted, shoving hard with all the adrenaline left in me. The wolf's jaws snapped shut, missing my throat by inches. My hand scraped across the floor—fingers closing around the iron's cold handle.

With a cry, I swung upward, jamming the poker into the beast's chest. The iron hissed against its flesh, smoke curling where metal met fur.

The wolf shrieked, stumbling back. I pushed to my feet, both hands gripping the poker, and drove it deeper.

For a moment, the world froze—the creature staring at me in shock before collapsing with a heavy thud.

My chest heaved, tears stinging my eyes. I had done it. I'd survived.

But more shadows moved in the corners of the cabin. I wasn't done yet.

Ethan's POV

I felt it through the bond—the surge of her defiance, the burst of her strength. It fueled me like fire in my veins.

Marcus tried to block me again, but I slammed him aside with a snarl, breaking through the last of his wolves.

The cabin door burst open under my weight.

And there she was. Standing in the middle of the wreckage, bloodied but unbroken, iron poker dripping with smoke.

For a heartbeat, I couldn't breathe. She wasn't a damsel in need of saving. She was a warrior, and the sight of her lit something fierce inside me.

"Lila," I rasped, stepping forward.

Her eyes snapped to mine, relief flooding her face—but she didn't lower the weapon. "Behind you!" she shouted.

I spun just as another wolf lunged. My claws met its throat, ending it in a spray of blood.

Together, we stood back to back, the cabin floor littered with the fallen.

Marcus's laughter echoed from the shadows. "Impressive. Perhaps she's more than a fragile human after all."

I bared my teeth, pulling Lila closer to my side. "She's mine. And you'll never touch her again."

Lila's POV

My body was shaking, but I refused to let Marcus see fear. Not anymore.

Because for the first time, I believed it—we could win. Together.
