Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Infiltration of the Building

Sabrina asked calmly, "So, how do we get in?"

Natsui looked up, glanced at the security cameras around the Silph Co. Building, then looked to either side, pointing at an adjacent commercial office building.

"This building is only half the height of the Silph Co. Building. If we can enter the Silph Co. Building from its rooftop, we can avoid the Team Rocket members on the lower floors."

Sabrina didn't object. She followed Natsui, crossed the street, and blended in with a group of office workers to enter the building.

They took the elevator to the top floor. On the stairway leading to the upper levels, Sabrina used her psychic powers to break the door lock, and they reached the rooftop without any obstacles.

Clearly, psychic powers are a really powerful and convenient ability!

The cold wind blew over Natsui. He stood on the edge of the railing and looked ahead.

On the street below, the endlessly flowing vehicles had become tiny, and the Silph Co. Building, across the way, was still quite a distance away.

"What's the matter? Are you scared?" Sabrina asked quietly.

"Not scared, but my legs are shaking a bit…" Natsui admitted generously, without trying to sound tough. "But at a time like this, there's no turning back, right?"

With that, his gaze searched the opposite side and soon found a window that had been broken during the Team Rocket raid.

It was a large picture window that let in plenty of light, but it was already shattered. The room behind the window was an office, but at that moment, due to the chaos, it was empty.

"Let's go in through there!"

Seeing Sabrina nod slightly, Natsui signaled to Kirlia, who approached his side and wrapped her arms around his waist.

Teleport, activate.

A second later, Natsui disappeared, and when he and Kirlia reappeared, they were already standing in that office.

He looked back toward Sabrina and saw her body floating effortlessly, flying directly from the opposite rooftop into the room.

Alright, you have psychic powers— you win!

When the two reunited, Natsui called softly, "Gastly."

Gastly's body emerged from its shadow. "What's up?"

But before Natsui could speak, Sabrina, with a rare display of surprise, covered her mouth.

"It can speak?"

"And what's so surprising about that!" Gastly glanced at Sabrina. "It's nothing more than the language of insignificant humans. Girl, you've still seen very little of the world!"

"Okay, enough jokes," Natsui said. "Hurry and scout the area, and make sure to find out where Team Rocket is stationed."

Seeing Gastly pass through the wall, Sabrina turned to look at Natsui, as if getting to know him anew.

"Pokémon Trainer, International Police officer, a talking Gastly… I didn't expect that, despite being about my age, you would have lived through so much."

"That can't compare to you," despite the dangerous situation, Natsui's mood didn't seem too tense. "Not only do you have psychic powers, but you've also become a Gym Leader. You're the one to truly envy."

Perhaps used to compliments, Sabrina paid it no mind and asked again, "Do you know what Team Rocket's objective is?"

Natsui shrugged, indicating he didn't know.

Because of how much time had passed, he no longer remembered the details about Silph Co. in the games, but he was certain it had something to do with the company president.

At that moment, he pulled out his phone and took a look. Just as on the S.S. Anne, the signal was completely blocked.

A short while later, Gastly returned.

"Most of the Team Rocket members are concentrated on the lower and upper floors, while there are very few in the middle."

"And the building's employees?"

Gastly replied, "They're all gathered in various rooms under guard. But it doesn't seem like Team Rocket intends to harm them, so for now they're safe."

"What do you plan to do now?" Sabrina asked.

"There are too many of them; there's no way we can rescue everyone by ourselves," Natsui thought for a moment. "I think the best plan is to find the president's office and rescue him. As long as we can guarantee his safe exit, Team Rocket's plan will fail no matter what they do."

Sabrina nodded. "That sounds very dangerous, but don't worry. Since I accepted the mission, I'll help you without fail."

"Those words are truly comforting."

Taking a deep breath, Natsui leaned out to look down the hallway, then quickly pulled back.

"There's a camera right in front of us. If we walk out like this, we'll definitely be seen. So, before we move, we have to deal with the surveillance!"

With that, Natsui turned to Gastly and ordered, "From now on, we split up. You go to the control room first and see if you can disable the entire system. Then we'll meet back on the rooftop!"

"Heh, heh, heh," Gastly grinned broadly. "Leave it to me—destruction is what I like most and what I do best!"

Saying that, he vanished from the room.

Silph Co. Building, first-floor control room.

At that moment, two Team Rocket members were staring intently at the surveillance monitors, afraid of missing any information.

Before today's operation, both their big Boss and their superiors had ordered everyone to be on maximum alert and allow no slightest negligence.

And as low-ranking members with great ambitions, they naturally executed this order to perfection.

Although they were an evil organization that often did bad things, the truth is that Team Rocket's internal conditions were excellent.

Not only were they a large-scale organization with many major multinational corporations, but they also provided their members with comprehensive social welfare, paid salaries on time, supplied equipment and resources such as Pokémon, and often organized get-togethers, tea parties, and morale-boosting talks. That's why their cohesion was so strong.

Suddenly, a frivolous male voice sounded over the walkie-talkie: "Hey, hey, what's the situation over there?"

"Sir Lance, sir!" one of the members responded respectfully. "No anomalies detected on the building perimeter!"

The walkie-talkie asked again, "And inside the building?"

The Team Rocket member's gaze swept over all the monitor screens. "No anomalies detected on any of the floors either!"

"Very good," the male voice praised him a couple of times and then ordered, "Stay alert! If there's any problem, report it immediately!"

"Yes, sir!"

Setting the walkie-talkie aside, this member wiped the sweat from his brow and joked to himself, "Phew, no matter how many times I talk to those executives, they always give me chills."

However, after saying that, a good while passed without his companion responding or nodding. Puzzled, he quickly turned to look—only to see the other member lying motionless across the control console, as if asleep!

"Hey, what kind of joke is this?!" he exclaimed, stepping forward and pushing the member hard. "How dare you sleep at a moment like this? You've got some nerve!"
