Chapter 80 - Chapter 80: The Search

"Ivysaur, use Razor Leaf!!"

With a command from Natsui, countless sharp leaves flew from Ivysaur's bulb, striking a Graveler in front of them.

Puff, puff, puff, puff, puff!

Taking continuous damage, the wild Pokémon couldn't withstand the assault and rolled down the slope, directly into the forest below.

Letting out a long sigh of relief, counting this one, it was the sixth Pokémon that had actively attacked Natsui since he had arrived on the island.

Golbat, Geodude, Tentacruel, Slowpoke, Cloyster, Graveler... who knows what would appear next!

Although his Pokémon could easily defeat these wild Pokémon due to the difference in strength, it wasn't a sustainable solution to keep expending energy like this.

After thinking for a moment, to avoid being attacked again, he released all his Pokémon at once.

Flashes of blue light appeared one by one, and Jolteon, Wartortle, and the others all materialized, surrounding Natsui.

This way, even if another wild Pokémon wanted to attack him, seeing so many guards around him, it would surely have to weigh its own strength and not dare to act recklessly.

Continuing forward, Natsui ventured deeper into the island's interior, arriving at a cliff. He crossed a natural stone bridge formed by rock, passed through a crevice, and finally entered a vast rock maze.

And sure enough, the effect was immediate. Just as he had expected, along the way, seeing such a large group of Pokémon gathered together, no other wild Pokémon dared to overestimate its abilities and attack him.

This maze was surrounded by smooth rock walls formed by steep cliffs. Not only were there numerous forked paths, but the roads were also very similar. At a rough glance, it was impossible to spot any difference. After just walking for a bit, making a few turns and detours, he was already starting to lose his sense of direction.

Looking around, Haunter asked in confusion, "Is there really an Articuno on this island? Why have we walked so far without finding any trace of it!"

"If it were that easy to find, it wouldn't be our turn," Natsui said. Having walked for a long time, he was a bit tired and took out a water bottle from his backpack to wet his throat. "Speaking of which, when people think of bird Pokémon, they instinctively assume they nest in trees. But actually, to find Articuno, we need to go down!"

In fact, whether in the games or the anime, underneath the Seafoam Islands, there was indeed a vast space made of flowing water and ice.

"Down!?" Haunter had a sudden realization. "You mean there's a whole other world beneath this island!?"

Natsui nodded, "Otherwise, why would we feel a chill seeping up from under our feet? Somewhere below, there must be a freezing place suitable for Articuno to live!"

With that, he said to Haunter and Zapdos, "I'll be counting on you two then. Quickly fly up high and see if there are any entrances leading underground nearby!"

"No problem, leave it to us!"

Haunter nodded, and it and Zapdos each chose a direction and took to the sky.

Watching them leave, Natsui couldn't help but sigh. If only he had a Pokémon that knew Dig at this time, he could just tunnel straight down, and it would save him all this trouble.

After a short rest, Natsui led his remaining Pokémon and continued to traverse the maze.

Actually, there was a simple-minded way to get through this kind of maze: just follow the rock wall on the left or right, stick to one direction, and keep moving forward, and you'll eventually find an exit.

And at this moment, Natsui was using this very method to slowly explore.

Along the way, he also saw many traces of past camping and battles. It seemed the old fisherman was right; many trainers had indeed braved the hardships to come to this island in search of Articuno!

And after being exposed to the wind and rain for a long time, the clothes and tents left behind by people were already tattered. Some even turned to dust with a gentle touch!

After advancing for some time, Haunter and Zapdos flew back and landed beside Natsui.

"No good!" Haunter sighed. "From the sky, no matter where I look, it's all the same bare rock. My eyes are starting to blur, and I still haven't found a cave entrance!"

"It must be hidden in a secluded spot," Natsui thought for a moment and decided to change his approach. "Alright, since it's not working from above, let's push up from below. Haunter, could you please make another trip underground, find the caverns below first, and then, based on the caverns, look for an exit to the surface!"

"That's a pretty reliable idea. Wait for my news!" Haunter's eyes lit up, and its body sank, passing directly through the rock surface underfoot.

This time, it took much less time than before. Not long after, when Haunter returned, it finally brought back good news.

"You guessed right!" The adventure into the unknown also made it very excited. "I did find several layers of caverns down below, and at the very bottom, there really is a huge space made of ice!"

"Did you see Articuno?" Natsui pressed.

"Not really. I was worried about scaring it off, so I didn't go any deeper. But I did find a tunnel that connects directly to the caverns below!"

"Excellent, lead the way!"

Haunter once again submerged into the ground, while Natsui hopped on Zapdos and flew into the air. Not long after, in a certain part of the maze, a Shadow Ball suddenly flew up into the sky.

"There! Zapdos, let's go!"

Flapping its wings, Zapdos slowly descended. It wasn't until then that Natsui realized just how hard this cave entrance was to find.

Weeds grew thickly on both sides of the cave, and a massive rock semi-covered it from above, blocking the sunlight. Forget seeing it from the air; even if Natsui were standing right in front of it now, he wouldn't have noticed a cave entrance was hidden here without paying close attention!

Just then, a clear, cold breeze blew out from underground. The bone-chilling cold instantly seeped through his clothes and hit his body!

He couldn't help but shiver. Natsui tightened his collar, took out a flashlight, and had Charmeleon lead the way. He then entered the cave in a line with his Pokémon.

At first, the warm sunlight from outside met the cold air inside the cave, making the ground extremely slippery, requiring extreme caution with every step. As they went deeper, the ground finally became dry, but the chill grew even more intense. Even his breath turned into a cloud of mist when he exhaled!
