"Miltank, use Rollout!"
At Whitney's command, Miltank charged forward. As its speed increased, it eventually leaped high into the air, tucked its body into a ball, and began to spin rapidly, like a tire.
After landing, Miltank continued rolling like a fleshy tank, heading straight for Tyranitar.
It moved so fast that the friction kicked up layers of dust from the hard-packed earth.
"Tyranitar, use Stone Edge!"
Natsui had seen this move before, so he chose not to meet it head-on. Instead, he decided to test Miltank's strength with a long-range attack first.
Several sharp rocks erupted from the ground and shot toward Miltank. But the fast-rolling Miltank didn't even try to dodge, smashing into the pointed stones with unstoppable momentum.
CRASH! CRASH! CRASH!
The immense force shattered the rocks to pieces. Miltank's speed didn't decrease as it smashed through the remaining stones and continued its charge toward Tyranitar.
It truly was a Pokémon known for being strong and sturdy. Its physical power was incredible.
THUD!
Finally, Miltank slammed into Tyranitar. The impact created a massive sound. However, although Tyranitar took the hit head-on, its armor was so thick that the attack didn't have much effect.
Whitney didn't seem to mind.
"Miltank, do it again!"
If one hit didn't work, she'd just try a few more. She believed that sooner or later, Tyranitar would reach its limit.
Seeing Miltank use the same trick again, Natsui changed his strategy.
"Catch it!"
At his command, Tyranitar opened its arms. Timing it perfectly, the moment Miltank got close, it wrapped its arms around it, holding it tight.
SCREEE!
Miltank's rolling body scraped against Tyranitar's armor. As the two forces collided, Miltank's inertia pushed Tyranitar back several steps, but Miltank itself, having lost its rotational speed, was stopped in Tyranitar's grasp.
"Good chance!" Natsui's eyes lit up as he yelled, "Use Payback!"
As a Dark-type physical move, Payback is a charged attack. At such a close range, it was impossible to dodge.
Tyranitar raised its right hand, gathering energy into it, and then slammed it heavily into Miltank's body.
Instantly, Miltank was sent flying like a volleyball, knocked back to Whitney's side of the field.
Rumble...
Miltank rolled all the way to Whitney's feet before stopping. Thanks to its thick hide, despite some scrapes, it was mostly unharmed.
"Not bad at all. You actually broke through my move!"
Whitney looked at Tyranitar with approval. Miltank's Rollout had given countless challengers trouble, and many had been defeated by it.
She never thought it would be countered so easily by a Tyranitar.
Natsui smiled lightly. In the face of absolute power, technique can only do so much.
When Miltank got back up, it was Whitney's turn to change her strategy.
"Use Zen Headbutt!"
Miltank charged forward again, but this time it didn't roll. After crossing the halfway point, it launched itself like a projectile, aiming to ram its massive head into Tyranitar.
It dares to charge in just like that?
Natsui shook his head. Did she really think the power of this miniature Godzilla was just for show?
If a Tauros used this move, its horns might be intimidating. But this was just a little cow; what horns did it have?
"Use Dark Pulse!"
At Natsui's command, Tyranitar opened its mouth and a shockwave of dark energy erupted, blasting towards Miltank.
The airborne Miltank couldn't dodge and flew headfirst into the Dark Pulse. But with its sturdy body, it pushed through the damage, broke out of the attack's range, and slammed its head into Tyranitar's abdomen.
But it wasn't over. Whitney yelled, "Jump and use Body Slam!"
Miltank adjusted its balance, leaped high into the air, spread its limbs, and came crashing down on Tyranitar.
This was a Normal-type physical move whose damage varied with the user's size and power. Given Miltank's weight, even Tyranitar would have trouble taking the hit easily.
"Tyranitar, use Iron Defense!"
A blue light flashed around Tyranitar's body. The Iron Defense would greatly increase its defensive power.
The moment Iron Defense was up, Miltank came down with the force of a thousand pounds.
What does it feel like to be crushed by a cow?
Natsui had never tried it and didn't want to. But seeing Tyranitar's pained expression, it was clearly a heavy blow. Thankfully, with the protection of Iron Defense, it gritted its teeth and endured.
Now, Miltank had used up its three main attacks. It was Natsui's turn to counter.
As a primarily Normal-type physical attacker, Miltank's main offensive moves were close-range. If it couldn't take down an opponent in the early stages, the situation would reverse, and the momentum would shift against it.
"Use Hyper Beam!"
The two Pokémon were now at point-blank range, so Natsui wasn't worried about Miltank dodging.
Tyranitar opened its massive mouth and fired a powerful blast of energy.
The Hyper Beam struck Miltank square in the chest, pushing it across the field until it slammed into the wall below the spectator seats.
When the energy of the beam dissipated, it slid down the wall and collapsed softly on the ground.
The referee raised her flag. "Miltank is unable to battle! Tyranitar wins the first round!"
Whitney sighed and recalled Miltank. However, her expression didn't show much disappointment. "It's just like they said. You really are incredibly strong."
Natsui replied politely, "Your Miltank is very strong too. If it weren't Tyranitar, any of my other Pokémon probably would have been defeated by those first few attacks."
Natsui wasn't wrong. Against any other Pokémon, unless it could evade Miltank's attacks or had super-high defense, it would be difficult to withstand the combination of Rollout, Zen Headbutt, and Body Slam.
Whitney was clearly pleased by the compliment from someone stronger than her.
"Miltank is indeed my most trusted partner," she said with a smile, then took out another Poké Ball. "Then, my second Pokémon is this one. Come on out, Ambipom!"
