Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Zero-Frame Startup

"Me?" Ema was taken aback. He hadn't expected the kidnapper to have such a sharp eye, picking him out immediately.

This guy's judgment really was... something else.

"Yes, you! Hurry up and bring me the case!" The masked kidnapper's tone was tinged with impatience.

He kept glancing at his watch as he spoke, clearly concerned about the timing of the operation.

"Alright," Ema said as he walked over to Shinichi and took the briefcase from his hands.

He turned and walked towards the masked kidnapper. When he was about three steps away, the robber stopped him.

"That's far enough. Give me the briefcase!" The masked robber's voice was filled with excitement... to get a hundred million without any risk, how could he not be excited?

"Okay," Ema cooperated, raising his hands to hand over the briefcase.

The masked robber reached out, took the briefcase, and backed away towards the van.

As he was closing the door, he said excitedly, "Got the money. Let's go—"

Unfortunately, this masked kidnapper was far from professional.

He was too excited, too thrilled, to the point that he subconsciously used his dominant right hand to close the door—the same hand that was holding the gun.

For that one moment, the muzzle of the gun was no longer aimed at Ema and the others.

And Ema seized that opportunity.

With a zero-frame startup, he pounced like a ferocious cheetah.

The masked kidnapper was startled, realizing he had made a grave error.

He quickly tried to aim the gun back at his target.

However, the distance between them was too short.

The moment the kidnapper turned his gun, Ema had already rushed up to him, using his left hand to push the muzzle away.

Almost instinctively, Ema's right hand struck the man's throat, then he reached for the driver.

The driver, witnessing this, turned pale. He quickly tried to turn his own gun to help his accomplice, but in doing so, he conveniently moved his arm right into Ema's grasp.

Ema formed a fist with his left hand and delivered two sharp blows to the driver's nose.

With a sickening crack, the man's nasal bridge was broken.

The driver didn't even let out a grunt before he was knocked unconscious.

Ema glanced back at the first masked kidnapper.

The man was clutching his throat, making pained, gurgling sounds.

Ema knocked him out with a backhand blow.

It all happened in a matter of seconds.

Shinichi had wanted to help, but by the time he took two steps forward, the fight was already over.

He was left staring, dumbfounded.

Ran and Sonoko were also deeply shaken, the way they looked at Ema completely transformed.

Amidst their shock, they both felt a wave of relief.

Thank goodness Ema had seen the light back then, repented his ways, and abandoned the plan to kidnap them.

With his skills, the police might have never been able to catch him!

"Done," Ema said, feeling a sense of satisfaction as he stepped out of the van.

He finally understood why some people spent money on games.

The gaming experience of a pay-to-win player was truly awesome!

You skip the boring, long grind, get straight to the end, and just enjoy the ride!

"Ema... Ema-san," Shinichi said, looking at him with a mix of shock and suspicion. "You're... you're this strong? You took down both of them by yourself."

Ema joked, "When I was planning to kidnap Sonoko, I specifically learned how to fight... I didn't expect to use it not for kidnapping her, but for protecting her."

"Ema, I can't believe you learned to fight for me!" Sonoko happily went over and hugged Ema's arm, her eyes shining.

"Sigh, this girl is a lost cause," Shinichi thought, speechless. He learned it to kidnap you, what's there to be happy about?

He looked at Ran, seeking a sense of agreement!

"That's so wonderful!" Ran's face was full of envy.

"..." Shinichi scratched his head, unsure if their way of thinking was strange, or if he was just being too sensitive.

He couldn't figure it out, so he decided to stop thinking about it and took out his phone to call the police.

"Wow! You're the one who subdued these two masked robbers? That's amazing!" Officer Takagi exclaimed after understanding the situation.

He wasn't too surprised, as high school students arresting criminals wasn't exactly rare news these days.

Weren't Ran and Shinichi next to him constantly assisting the police in catching criminals?

"They were careless, otherwise I wouldn't have had the chance," Ema replied modestly.

If they hadn't been careless, he would have just thrown a tracking device onto the van.

Either way, these two kidnappers weren't getting away.

"We will take these two criminals back to the police headquarters for serious questioning. Don't worry, Sonoko-san, we will definitely give you a satisfactory result," Takagi said to Sonoko.

"Yes, I trust you!" Sonoko chuckled lightly.

"Then we'll be on our way!" Takagi said and returned to the police car.

The two handcuffed kidnappers stared daggers at Ema.

One of them said viciously, "I'll remember you, you brat! When I get out, I won't let you go!"

After he said that, another detective, Chiba, snapped, "You! Shut up!"

The kidnapper fell silent, but his gaze towards Ema remained fierce, as if he wanted to eat him alive.

Ema's brow furrowed for a moment, then relaxed.

He walked to the driver's window, rested his hand on it, and said, "Officer Takagi, could you add another charge of intimidation and threat against them?"

"Of course, no problem!" Takagi said without hesitation. His kindness did not extend to vicious criminals.

The two kidnappers' faces turned even uglier.

"Thank you," Ema said, taking two steps back and watching the police car leave.

He turned back to Sonoko, whose private car was already waiting nearby. "Looks like we can't have afternoon tea. Sonoko, you should probably take this money home first."

"Okay, we'll make plans for next time," Sonoko nodded. She knew how to prioritize; now wasn't the time for afternoon tea.

She said goodbye to the three of them and left in her car.

"Ran, Shinichi, see you at school tomorrow," Ema said his goodbyes and left.

"See you tomorrow!" Ran replied politely.

"Ran and Shinichi? Are we that familiar with him?" Shinichi felt the boy was being a bit too familiar too quickly.

"We'll get familiar sooner or later anyway, so what's the harm in calling us that early?" Ran, however, didn't mind.

Shinichi thought about it and decided not to dwell on it too much.
