When the police arrived at the crime scene, they immediately cordoned it off.
Inspector Megure was overjoyed to see his familiar acquaintance, Shinichi. He knew this meant he could leave his brain at home again.
And just as he expected, Shinichi was already actively investigating the scene and analyzing the case, quickly forming a general idea of what had happened.
"From the coagulation of the victim's blood, he likely died within the last hour."
"Based on the bloodstains on the wall, the victim was lifted up and then pierced with the sword."
"The murder weapon is a one-handed sword from this exhibition, but its edge has been sharpened... Normally, display props like this aren't sharpened."
"The killer is definitely someone from the museum staff. Only they would have had the opportunity to switch the display sword."
...
From a distance, Shiraishi watched Shinichi calmly analyzing the case and remarked, "Shinichi really gets into the zone fast. He's already analyzing."
"Yeah! Shinichi's always like this. Whenever there's a murder case, he gets excited and dives right in!" Ran said softly. "He really enjoys the process!"
"I can see that... How long does it usually take him to solve a case?" Shiraishi turned and asked Ran curiously.
"Umm..." Ran tilted her head, thinking hard. "On average, probably about three hours?"
"We have to wait three hours?" Hearing this, Shiraishi immediately suggested, "I remember there's a coffee shop nearby. Let's go wait for him there."
"Huh? We're just going to leave Shinichi and go?" Ran was surprised and a bit hesitant. The offer was very tempting... What girl enjoys waiting around a bloody crime scene?
"We're not leaving him; we're just waiting for him in a different place!" Shiraishi corrected her. "We can't help him here anyway."
"But... leaving Shinichi here all alone seems a bit pitiful," the kind-hearted Ran said, feeling it was wrong to just leave.
"He's pitiful?" Shiraishi looked at Ran, speechless. "Look at his expression. Does any part of him look pitiful? We're the ones who are pitiful."
"..." Ran glanced at Shinichi. His eyes were shining, completely focused and absorbed in solving the case. His aura was at full blast; he was the star of the show.
In contrast, the two of them were standing idly outside the crime scene like ants, with nothing to do and vacant expressions.
Maybe... they really were the more pitiful ones.
"Let's go!" Shiraishi turned to leave. "We can sit down and wait comfortably at the coffee shop."
"Shouldn't we say something to Shinichi?" Ran asked as she watched Shiraishi walk away. After a moment of hesitation, she followed her heart and went with him.
"Shinichi's focused on the case right now, so let's not bother him. Just send him a text," Shiraishi said, a slight smile on his lips as he saw Ran follow. "He'll reply when he sees it."
"That makes sense!" Ran agreed that since Shinichi was concentrating, a text was better so as not to interrupt his train of thought.
And so, the two of them left the art museum and headed to a nearby coffee shop.
In the anime, Shinichi, in his child form, overcame numerous obstacles to finally catch the culprit—Curator Ochiai.
Now, in his original body and without any disadvantages, catching Curator Ochiai would only be easier.
"There is only one truth!"
After finding the final piece of the puzzle, Shinichi pointed a finger and declared, "The killer is you! Curator Ochiai!"
"You imitated the painting 'Divine Punishment' to murder Mr. Manaka!"
"After the crime, you swapped the ballpoint pen at the scene and placed the blood-stained armor in Mr. Kubota's locker to frame him!"
"The proof is the ballpoint pen in your pocket... it's out of ink, isn't it?"
"As for the motive, you couldn't stand the thought of Mr. Manaka turning the art museum into a hotel!"
Faced with his meticulous reasoning and solid evidence, Curator Ochiai could only bow his head and confess. "You're right. I killed him."
With the case closed, Inspector Megure waved his hand for his men to take Curator Ochiai away.
He smiled at Shinichi and said, "Shinichi, we've troubled you again."
"Hehe, no trouble at all! If you ever have another murder case, Inspector, feel free to call me anytime!" Shinichi said cheerfully.
"I will!" Inspector Megure patted his shoulder, thinking to himself that he was truly Yusaku's son, with the exact same personality.
After saying goodbye to Inspector Megure, Shinichi left the museum. He looked around but couldn't find Ran or Shiraishi.
"Where did they go?" he wondered, scratching his head. He took out his phone to call them.
It was only then that he saw Ran's text message. He quickly ran to the nearby coffee shop to find them.
However, when he got there, he didn't see them.
With no other choice, Shinichi called Ran. He then found out they had already gone shopping in Shibuya.
He had no choice but to head there to meet up with them.
Seeing Ran with a candied hawthorn in one hand and cotton candy in the other, Shinichi said sourly, "You two seem to be having a great time!!"
Ran felt a little guilty. She thought that perhaps leaving Shinichi alone at the crime scene had been a bit too much.
Shiraishi, seeing Shinichi's complaint, retorted bluntly, "Weren't you having a great time too? You only just saw the message Ran sent you."
"Err..." Shinichi scratched his head in embarrassment, realizing he had no comeback.
"Yeah, that's right!" Seeing Shinichi's guilty look, Ran suddenly felt she had no reason to feel bad. She said indignantly, "You can't expect the two of us to wait for you at a crime scene forever, can you?"
"W-well... okay, you're right. I didn't consider your feelings. I'm sorry," Shinichi reflected and admitted he was in the wrong.
"Mmm, we forgive you. Don't do it again next time," Shiraishi said, feeling magnanimous, and quickly forgave Shinichi.
"Exactly!" Seeing Shinichi on the back foot, Ran felt a sense of vindication, and her mood inexplicably brightened.
"..." Shinichi shot a frustrated glare at Shiraishi—You're the one who dragged Ran away, and you're making me apologize!
Shiraishi patted Shinichi's shoulder. "Alright, alright, don't beat yourself up. Cheer up! Ran and I aren't the petty type!"
"Ran and I have already found a nice restaurant. It's pretty crowded, so if we go queue up now, the timing should be just right."
