Chapter 1 - Prologue

"Here lies..." The priest declared as the silence enveloped the hall and the ceiling covered with stained glass. The sun pierced through the painted glass as the crowd convened in the center, watching the corpse.

Long, blonde, wavy hair caressed the roses on the deathbed. The subtle wind brushed through her pale, cold skin as the echo of her mother's wails rang aloud — she was denying the surrender.

"Evangeline!" Weden called, snapping her fingers as the lady seemed to have caught herself in a daze. Weden tutted. "You've been staring at that blank canvas for quite some time now."

Evangeline regained her focus that instant. In fact, she's been caught into a blizzard of thoughts, one with which involves her death after she defied her father's wishes. Evangeline sighed at her own thoughts, nothing had come to fruition thinking of all those. But why wouldn't she? That's her own death!

Evangeline gritted her teeth once her train of notions diverted towards that moron, Eulothorne!

"You...h-how dare you..." Evangeline stuttered, her fingers trembling. That was it. Her death endlessly replayed in the back of her head. What an ecstatic life — sarcastically.

At the thought of being once loved — no, pretentiously loved, Evangeline woke to her fear. That was what killed her. She drowned on her love and forgot to breathe for air.

Nothing was changed, nothing but her rebirth.

Weden brushed her locks downward, trying to calm Evangeline from something she didn't know. She was unaware of what gruesome fate was to befall on her mistress and had always kept Evangeline awake at night.

A neat saucer lay on the tea table with Evangeline's pinky finger upward, she grabbed the teacup onto her slender, delicate fingers and sipped on the cup's mouthpiece. "What tea is this?"

Weden smiled at the thought that perhaps the lady must have come to like the beverage. "Isabel recommended that I should give you a taste of her luxurious beverage. It's called pekoe black tea. It gets imported from Sherling County for 20 shillings per pound, they said it symbolizes wealth so I agreed as it perfectly suit your dignified self."

Weden's genuine smile caused Evangeline's brows to furrow. It has long been since she had seen that smile. It was before she was given another chance by the heavens to live her life that she remembered, Weden was murdered. It was to cover up her brother's debauchery of taking his advances to the old servant. Just thinking about it makes Evangeline feel that she has all throughout been living in a hellhole.

"I am yet to discover if I am dignified enough for you to call me that. I once knelt to something who was powerless." Her response made Weden wonder, but for mere her, she has no right for words to utter.

Evangeline placed the tea back onto the saucer, remembering what day has she gone back in time to.

"I'm going for a walk," she declared. Weden immediately opposed. "You still have yet to—"

Weden was cut off just as immediately as she walked away from the chamber. "I cannot hear those words the first time I'm brought back to life."

She started to wander off toward the garden as she recalled the tormenting past she had gone through when she was housed by the Oberon clan. Those shams were utterly despicable which she believed had corrupted her brother to be a proud debauchee who knew shame no more. She started calculating the days from the back of her head, measuring the timestamp of how long it would take for her death.

6 months. Exactly 6 months from now, Evangeline would find herself lying on a deathbed filled with most rost thorns. One of which with degenerate value as she was unable to bear an heir. She was simply thrown underground with no casket for proving no worth to the Oberon's.

Back then, Evangeline initially did not want to bear an offspring. She had been drinking abortion tea she bought from a merchant after every assault her husband did her.

Evangeline was stuck in thought as arms from behind wrapped around her. She immediately jolted and bit the arm as hard as she could until the man had let her go.

"Owww..." The man groaned in pain, enabling a grim, contorted expression.

He has still been the most handsome man she's ever seen, but her mind completely went devoid of all blossoming flowery delusions as she knew how she hated this man for her misery.

"How could you be so mean to your fiancé, Eva?" A taunting smile crept from both sides of his cheeks.

Evangeline rolled her eyes and walked away, leaving no words to be spewed. As he watched her leave from a distance, the man giggled as if he had seen the most adorable find.

"Eulothorne Oberon! The man I scorn for all eternity, you will pay me the debt you owe me!"

Evangeline stopped her feet, her mind flooding with the victory she was willing to be plunged into. She couldn't utter enough words to prove her disdain towards the Oberon clan, but her mind dread for the torture she thinks they deserve.

Evangeline, for the first time of her two lives, learned vengeance.
