Seraphina woke to the sound of rain against the windows and Damon's hand resting protectively over her rounded belly. Six months pregnant, and he still couldn't sleep without touching her—as if he needed constant proof that both she and their child were safe.
She smiled, placing her hand over his. The baby responded immediately, a flutter of movement that made her breath catch. According to Helena's calculations, their daughter would be the first child born of both Moon Goddess and Wolf King bloodlines in over a thousand years.
"She's awake," Damon murmured against her neck, his voice thick with sleep.
"How do you know it's a she?"
"Wolf instinct. Plus, she's got your stubborn streak already." His thumb traced gentle circles on her skin. "She never settles until you're properly awake."
As if to prove his point, another kick made Seraphina wince. "Alright, little one. I'm up."
