Luna was six hours old when the world turned its back on them.

The first alert came through Marcus's phone at 3:47 AM Geneva time. He answered it groggily from his makeshift cot in the command center, where he'd been catching brief rest between crisis management calls.

"Sir, you need to see this," came the voice of their overnight analyst. "The Americans just made an announcement."

Marcus was fully awake in seconds. "What kind of announcement?"

"Emergency Executive Order 14823. Immediate suspension of all London Accord provisions. Mandatory reporting and detention of supernatural entities pending 'comprehensive security review.'"

The words hit like ice water. Marcus grabbed his tablet, pulling up news feeds that were already exploding with breaking news alerts.
