Chapter 3 - Loadout

Before he accepted the quest, Riku had to do the basics first. And that was buying a weapon from the Armory Shop.

Why? Well, this is the obvious step. Sure he could beat those zombies using his fist and any object that he could get his hands on, but that isn't efficient and would get him in danger. And, it's not as cool as shooting a zombie with a gun.

So he opened his Armory Shop where the categories:

Melee, Handguns, Shotguns, Machine guns, Assault rifles, Sniper rifles, Heavy, Incendiary, Vehicles, Aircraft, Miscellaneous.

In each category, there are a variety of weapons of over 100 separate weapons. But not everything is available from the start, some are locked until reaching the required level.

And that's the fun in it when he was playing the game, because he could feel the progress and getting stronger as he leveled up.

And since there is a long list of weapons, putting them here would be like dumping unnecessary contents. So he would purchase what he had in mind for the mission.

Since this is the start, he would need a weapon that could clear zombies efficiently in tight spaces. A pistol, because switching to your secondary is faster than reloading. A melee weapon, and some fragmentation grenades for luring and distracting the zombies.

With that, he went shopping with 5,000 SP.

As for his main, his choice was the legendary Heckler and Koch MP5 costing 2,500SP. Why?

Because the MP5 was a close-quarters beast. It had low recoil, high accuracy, and a respectable rate of fire. Chambered in 9mm, it was relatively easy to handle—even in panicked situations. It was also compact enough for navigating school hallways without the bulk of a long rifle. In the game, it was one of his go-to weapons for early-stage missions.

[Ammunition not included. 9mm Magazines sold separately]

He didn't forget to grab those, either.

[9mm x 30-round magazine – 150 SP each]

[Purchased 4 Magazines – 600 SP total]

[Remaining Balance: 1,900 SP]

Next, a pistol.

He scrolled through the Handguns category until his eyes landed on something familiar—the Glock 17.

It wasn't the flashiest pistol, but it was reliable, had decent capacity, and was relatively cheap. Chambered in 9mm, it used the same ammo as his MP5, which meant less hassle in stocking two calibers.

[Glock 17 purchased – 600 SP deducted]

[30-round Glock mags – 120 SP each]

[Purchased 2 Magazines – 240 SP total]

[Remaining Balance: 1,060 SP]

He now had a primary and a sidearm. But he wasn't done.

Melee weapon—check.

He browsed the Melee tab and found the same tomahawk he always used in the game. Black finish, lightweight, with a sharpened edge that could easily crack skulls. It was inexpensive and efficient.

[Tactical Tomahawk – 350 SP]

[Remaining Balance: 710 SP]

Finally, something for crowd control.

He clicked on Incendiary and found the good old M67 Frag Grenade.

[M67 Frag Grenade – 250 SP each]

[Purchased 2]

[Remaining Balance: 210 SP]

"There's still 210 SP left huh? I think I should purchase one more mag for the MP5."

[9mm x 30-round magazine – 150 SP each]

[Purchased 1 Magazines – 150 SP total]

[Remaining Balance: 60 SP]

After confirming all of his purchases, he went to the inventory tab where he saw the icons of each weapon, glowing as if enticing him to use it.

Before getting them out of his inventory, he grabbed his bag, pulled the zipper, and put out the huge books and some notebooks as he wouldn't need it anymore. Though he left one notebook, a ballpen, pencil, and an eraser as he would need it in the future when he began writing his plans down.

With a lot of space now available in his bag, he went back to inventory and summoned all the weapons.

In a soft blue shimmer of light, the gear appeared before him—laid neatly on the desk like they had been prepped by an invisible quartermaster. The MP5 submachine gun rested across the surface with its matte-black polymer body glinting faintly under the flickering classroom lights. Next to it was the Glock 17 pistol.

Then came the tomahawk. The four spare MP5 magazines, one Glock magazine, and two frag grenades followed, arranged in a clean line.

Seeing the weapon with his eyes made him all the more excited. Because, this is real. Sure, the existence of a system was already proof of existence but using it and then actually spewing out weapons is another.

"Alright," he murmured, slinging his schoolbag back onto the desk. "Time to pack up."

He picked up the four 9mm magazines for the MP5 and slipped them into the side compartments of his bag, fitting snugly where water bottles usually went. The Glock magazine, were tucked into a pencil case-sized pouch near the top. As for the two M67 grenades, he paused, unsure at first where to place them—but decided to wedge them between a folded hoodie and the back padding. They were secure, cushioned, and hidden in case anyone got curious.

He holstered the Glock in the waistband of his pants, slightly off-center toward the back so it wouldn't dig into his side. His uniform blazer helped conceal it. Next came the tomahawk, which he slid horizontally between his belt and lower back like he'd seen special ops characters do in games and movies.

Finally, he picked up the MP5.

The moment his hands wrapped around the grip, it felt natural—comfortable even. Not too heavy, balanced well, and the sling let him rest it diagonally across his chest. He tugged it slightly to adjust the strap, checking his maneuverability.

Not bad. He could aim down the sights in a second, and the magazine was already loaded. He racked the charging handle with a loud clack, chambering a round.

"Lock and loaded."

"Locked and loaded," Riku whispered.

The classroom was quiet again. Silent—except for the distant sound of something dragging in the hallway.

He inhaled slowly, trying to calm the adrenaline building inside him. He was geared. Armed. Ready.

But the real test was next.

"I guess it's time to accept the quest," he said.

With a swipe of his hand, the blue holographic interface appeared once more.

[New Quest: First Blood]

Objective: Eliminate a zombie (0/1)

Reward: 650 EXP, 500 SP

[Accept] [Decline]

His thumb hovered for only a moment.

He pressed [Accept].

The screen disappeared. The silence deepened.

And somewhere beyond the door… a growl answered.

He scrambled towards the door, slid it ajar, and peeked to the right where he saw a zombie standing there slumbering about.

He tilted his body ever so slightly, angling the MP5 just outside the doorframe. The zombie was roughly ten meters down the corridor, shuffling in slow, uneven steps. Its school uniform was tattered, soaked in dark blood. One arm hung uselessly, the bone snapped and jutting out at an angle, but its head slowly twisted side to side—searching.

Its back was turned.

Perfect.

Riku's breath slowed. He raised the MP5, cheek resting against the stock, iron sights aligned on the back of the zombie's head. His fingers didn't shake. His heartbeat didn't race. Whether it was the skill boost or pure focus, he felt calm.

Like he'd done this a hundred times before.

Click.

He flicked the fire selector to semi-auto.

Tak!

The sound echoed down the hall—sharp, clean. The zombie's head jerked forward, then its knees buckled. It collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut, face-first onto the floor with a heavy thud.

Riku didn't move at first. He just stood there, breathing slowly.
