The next morning, Su Chen woke up on the sofa as usual.
The first thing to do in the morning, naturally, was to roll for luck.
"One pull a day, say goodbye to bad luck!"
Su Chen rubbed his palms together, shaking off any lingering misfortune.
With a thought, the system's gacha pool spun, and a flash of blue light appeared.
"White, green, blue, purple, gold… blue still counts as a win!"
Su Chen was a little pleased.
It seemed his luck wasn't entirely terrible—not like drawing [Seele's Autobiography] again.
He crushed the blue card, and two semi-automatic pistols appeared in his system space, their lines sharp and menacing: one black, one white, crossed over each other.
[Ebony & Ivory]: The weathered grips seem to whisper a story—listen closely, and you'll hear the wails of demons.
The system's description didn't reveal much, but Su Chen knew these weren't ordinary guns.
They were the weapons of Dante from the Devil May Cry universe—used to defeat countless demons.
Ebony carried the power of a high-caliber sniper rifle, while Ivory could unleash suppressive fire like a submachine gun.
Su Chen focused, left hand gripping Ebony, right hand gripping Ivory.
The guns spun and danced in his hands like they had a life of their own—perfectly balanced and responsive.
Though it was his first time handling firearms, they moved in sync with his thoughts, as if he'd been using them forever.
"Nice. These are mine now."
Su Chen chuckled and returned the twin guns to his system space.
Just when he needed weapons, they appeared.
Maybe this was the luck accumulated from all his bad pulls—or a little surprise from the system.
Either way, Su Chen's mood this morning was as bright as the sunshine outside.
After the draw, Su Chen didn't head to the kitchen like he had the previous day.
Not out of laziness, but because of Nicole's special instructions the night before.
"We've already had a luxurious buffet dinner. Let the rare food stay in our stomachs a little longer." Nicole had said, face full of post-meal satisfaction.
Of course, Su Chen could guess the real reason.
Most likely, after spending a large sum on the buffet, Nicole wanted to skip breakfast—even if it was just some potatoes.
"No wonder she's the money-hungry boss of the multi-debt Cunning Hares!"
Su Chen sighed. With nothing better to do, he turned on the TV.
["Last night, a research facility under the White Star Institute was attacked. Several vital materials were stolen, and multiple researchers were injured or killed. Suspected perpetrators: Red Fang Gang."]
A female reporter stood beside a still-smoking building, her voice full of passion.
Then her male co-anchor suddenly grabbed the mic and began yelling furiously.
["Not suspected—definitely the Red Fang Gang! I'll be damned! These bastards should go straight to hell!"]
"Wow. New Eridu sure has a straightforward media culture—even the reporters are so passionate."
Su Chen commented with amusement.
Yesterday's news was about a Hollow disaster in Nineteenth Street. Today it was a gang-led terrorist attack on a research lab.
Life in New Eridu… really was hell on earth.
"But the Red Fang Gang attacking a research lab… that sounds like the start of the story."
Su Chen stroked his chin thoughtfully.
He hadn't watched much of the plot, but he remembered the opening PV clearly.
Then—suddenly—
Bang!
Nicole burst out of her room, shouting excitedly as she woke up Billy and Anby one by one.
"We've got a big job!"
Soon, everyone was gathered at the table, discussing.
"What? What? We're gonna get rich?!"
Billy shouted excitedly.
"Just tell us what's going on, Nicole."
"I just received a highly lucrative commission," Nicole said seriously after clearing her throat. "We're to retrieve a stolen safe from the Red Fang Gang. This job alone is worth half a month of commissions!"
"In that case, it's time for the Starlight Knight to shine again!"
Billy slicked back his white hair dramatically.
"The Red Fang Gang is a fairly well-known group in New Eridu. They have many underlings and won't be easy to deal with."
Anby analyzed calmly.
"Hey, Anby—you're not scared, are you?"
Billy teased with exaggerated tone.
"Not at all. I mean we need to make proper preparations."
Anby lightly tapped her blade's sheath, still composed.
"May I join this mission?"
Su Chen spoke up at the right moment.
He was very interested in taking on gangs.
"You?" Anby glanced at him, voice cool. "You may have 90-point Ether Aptitude, but you're still just an ordinary person. This mission isn't suitable for you."
Based on her impression from two days ago, Su Chen's body didn't seem particularly strong—possibly even frail.
Undeniable potential, yes—but not ready for action.
"Hmmph?"
Su Chen jumped in place—executed a Thomas flair, followed by a 720° spinning somersault—and landed gracefully.
With his tenfold-human-limit stats, that was child's play.
Clap clap clap! Billy clapped enthusiastically.
"Young man! Excellent technique!"
"Too kind, too kind."
Su Chen waved humbly.
Nicole was surprised at first, then narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "Wait, didn't you say you were just a regular person?"
That kind of core strength and technique already surpassed most fighters. Even several burly thugs wouldn't be able to lay a finger on him.
"I am a regular person… just slightly stronger than average."
Su Chen held up his fingers—between them seemed to lie the cosmos itself.
Compared to things like Thiren or Nekomiya, he was just a normal human… just slightly overpowered.
"Fine, since you're so confident, I'll let you join us."
Seeing how assured Su Chen was, Nicole decided not to push back.
Besides, she did want to see just what kind of secrets he was hiding.
