Chapter 18 - Chapter 9 – A Family’s Kindness, A Daughter’s Smile I

Scene 1 : The Family's Gentle Trap

After parting ways with Long Yi, Han Yue returned home in the same quiet, low-profile taxi she'd snuck out in. She kept her expression mild, clutching the paper bag of drinks she'd bought as cover. When she passed through the gates of the Han estate, the guards at the entrance didn't question her. It was already dusk, and golden light spilled over the sprawling villa, making it look serene and peaceful.

But peace, Han Yue knew, was never permanent in this household.

Inside the private study of Han Jifu, the atmosphere was anything but serene.

Father, Mother, Older Brother, and Jiaojiao sat gathered around a low table of dark wood. The door was locked. The curtains drawn. A discreet silence fell before the scheming began.

Madam Lin's lips were pressed tight, her expression sour. "We need to do something about Han Yue," she said sharply. "The netizens are all watching now. They think we're cold-hearted. We can't let this go on."

"She's holding 10% of our company's shares," Han Jifu added, brows furrowed. "It's too much. We must make her feel included, lower her guard… and take back control before someone else gets in her ear."

Jiaojiao sat forward, a smile playing at her lips. "Why not use Zhou Rui? He's handsome, sweet-talking, and charming when he needs to be. She's never experienced anything romantic. He could play the gentle, caring type and win her over."

Lin Qianqian's eyes lit up at her daughter's suggestion. "Not bad. If she falls for him, she'll trust him. We can push her to transfer the shares to him—or at least get him to persuade her to make certain decisions."

"I'll talk to Zhou Rui," Jiaojiao said, flipping her hair confidently. "He listens to me."

Han Jun remained silent throughout, arms crossed. His sharp eyes scanned the room, but he made no comment, no offer of defense or resistance for his biological sister. His silence spoke volumes.

Han Jifu finally nodded. "Before school starts, I'll give her the company access card. Let her feel powerful—let her think we're recognizing her status. The main building, the jade vaults, the boutique inventory… she'll have clearance."

"She'll be thrilled," Lin Qianqian said. "Let's also prepare a bank card. Put 50 million in it. We'll say it's to make up for how she was treated. The netizens think we're monsters after that livestream. Even her room… people said it looked like a storage closet."

Jiaojiao scoffed. "She should be grateful we let her in at all."

"Enough," Han Jifu said. "Tonight, we act warm and sincere. No mistakes. It's just the beginning."

By the time Han Yue stepped through the front doors, the scent of fragrant dishes had already filled the air. The maids were unusually chipper, bowing and ushering her in as if she were a VIP guest.

"Miss Yue, welcome back. Dinner is ready."

She paused at the entryway, her eyes narrowing subtly.

Something feels off. This kind of warm, cozy welcome was exactly the kind of act this family liked to put on… when they were hiding knives behind their backs.

Still, she offered a polite smile and made her way to the dining room.

The entire family was seated—Father, Mother, Han Jun, and Jiaojiao. "Come, Yue'er, sit next to me," Lin Qianqian said gently, patting the seat beside her.

"We've been waiting for you," Han Jifu added with a benevolent smile. "Eat, eat. I know you've had a tough couple of days."

Han Yue's smile didn't reach her eyes. What are they scheming now?

She sat quietly and picked up her chopsticks. The dishes were her favorites—from before she'd left. Someone had been digging through old notes or asking the kitchen staff questions. But she played along, nodding and chewing delicately, her posture soft and obedient.

After dinner, Han Jifu gestured for her to sit with them in the living room. The mood grew solemn but affectionate.

"Yue'er," he began, "about what happened yesterday… I'm sorry. We should've protected you better."

Madam Lin sighed, resting a hand gently on Han Yue's. "Your room… We didn't mean to neglect it. Your grandparents decorated it with love, and we just couldn't bear to change it. But we understand now. If you'd like it redone, we can start tomorrow."

Han Yue looked down, her expression innocent and sincere. "It's alright. I understand."

That was enough for them.

"A good, understanding child." Lin Qianqian beamed.

Then Han Jifu presented her with a sleek, black card with golden trim.

"This is your company access card. You're a shareholder, after all. With this, you'll be able to enter all shareholder-authorized areas—warehouses, design rooms, vaults, boutiques. I want you to feel at home in our business."

Han Yue accepted it with wide eyes and a quiet thank-you. Finally.

"And here," Madam Lin said, handing her an envelope with a slim bank card inside. "This has 50 million yuan. Buy whatever you like. If there's anything else you need, just say the word."

Han Yue lowered her eyes and gave a soft smile. "Thank you, I'll be careful."

The family praised her once more before ending the "heartwarming" evening.

But as Han Yue stood in her room that night, alone at last, the smile on her lips faded.

She looked at the black access card gleaming in the dim light.

Finally… Let's begin.

Scene 1 – Ending: The Baby Rabbit, The 50 Million, and a Public Smile

After dinner, Han Yue returned to her room with a calm expression on her face, her fingers lightly brushing the cool edge of the black bank card she'd just received. Instead of lingering in bed, she slipped quietly into the kitchen, fetched a bag of washed baby carrots, and then entered her space.

The moment she appeared, a small blur of white fur came bounding toward her.

"Xiao Bai," she called softly.

The baby rabbit squeaked in delight, rubbing affectionately against her feet, circling around in happy loops. Han Yue crouched down and chuckled, her face softening. "You're such a little attention seeker, aren't you?"

She hand-fed Xiao Bai a few crisp carrots, watching with satisfaction as the little guy munched with joyful abandon. Afterwards, she gave him a few drops of diluted spiritual water, and to her surprise, he began hopping even faster—clearly full of energy.

Han Yue then walked to the black soil patch, pleased to see the green sprouts had grown again. The once shriveled leaves now stood upright with vibrant color. She crouched down, gently brushing her fingertips against the new growth. The spiritual energy here really was powerful. "Good. We're getting there."

She stayed a while longer before exiting the space.

Back in her room, Han Yue sat on the edge of her bed, her eyes thoughtful as she stared at the bank card in her hand.

Fifty million yuan.

It was a lot—but she didn't plan to use it on herself. The Han family probably still had ways of tracking her purchases. If she used this card to hoard food, medicine, or survival items, they might start to suspect her. That couldn't happen.

She tapped the card against her palm once, twice—then snapped her fingers.

"I'll livestream tomorrow," she murmured. "Let's make this money really disappear in a way no one will question."

The Next Day – Livestream Begins

By 9:00 a.m., Han Yue's Weibo livestream was already flooded with comments. The viewer count surged past 250,000 within the first fifteen minutes.

She wore a clean white dress and tied her long hair into a soft ponytail. Her tone was gentle, her expression bright and sincere.

"Hello everyone. I'm livestreaming today to let you know how I'll be using the 50 million yuan my parents gave me yesterday. After what happened… they wanted to make it up to me. I thought about it all night. And I've decided to donate all of it to people who truly need it."

The comments exploded with praise.

@SweetLotus33:

You're such a good person. Not everyone would think of others after what you've been through.

@CaptainTigerMom:

She really grew up poor, huh? You can tell. She hasn't forgotten where she came from.

@RainDropSoup:

I love that she's showing us legit donation centers too… this is so helpful.

Han Yue visited several government-verified charities and organizations throughout the city—orphanages, remote village support programs, community food banks, low-income education aid centers. She personally handed out donations, even taking time to chat with volunteers and hug a few shy children who ran up to her.

Every stop was documented live, and every organization she visited experienced a surge of public donations afterwards.

More praise followed.

@StudyWithMe999:

She's not just helping—she's educating. Now I know where I can volunteer too.

@TeaRose88:

This is what real influence looks like.

But not all comments were so simple.

@SkepticGoose:

…Anyone else feel like 50 million is an awfully round number? Almost like hush money?

@CrimeJunkie:

Bro it's so obvious. They're bribing her to stop people from digging deeper into that livestream. 😒

@SharpTongue:

I bet the family is hoping people will move on. PR move, 101.

Han Yue kept her sweet expression throughout the stream, playing the part of a kind, innocent daughter. Not once did her voice waver, not once did she lose her gentle tone.

After the Stream

By evening, the 50 million yuan was completely gone.

Just as she closed the stream, Han Yue received a new message.

Anonymous Contact:

"We're willing to move forward with the 2 billion offer. Send us the location and time for the contract signing."

Han Yue raised a brow and smiled.

"Finally."

She forwarded the contact information to Long Yi immediately.

Within moments, his reply arrived:

"Got it. I'll have my people handle all legal prep and finalize a location. The 800 million in cash will be ready. As for the 1.2 billion, I'll have it wired to the new account later today."

Han Yue:

"Thanks, Boss Long. I'll treat you to a steak dinner when I'm rich. 😎"

Long Yi:

"Looking forward to it. I'll be tied up for a while—need to liquidate some family assets too. In the meantime, I've arranged a secretary and two assistants for you. They'll contact you shortly."

Han Yue nodded as she received the contact list.

That evening, she messaged the secretary and told them to meet her tomorrow at a nearby café.

"We'll have a meeting," she said. "I need to move fast."

Her smile deepened.

The Han family handed her 50 million to keep her obedient.

And instead, she just turned it into 2 billion.
