Chapter 271 - Ice Drip Rain

Lan Jin moved her mind directly, and a one-meter bed appeared in the empty space in front of her. The distance to the wardrobe left enough room for a person to reach for clothes without climbing onto the bed.

Looking around the room, the two men were very satisfied.

"Not bad, this feels like a proper room for people to live in."

A new day came quickly.

Originally, it was supposed to be a calm, leisurely day with nothing to do. But just after the earthquake, a second round of disaster struck immediately. The wake-up alarm rang. Lan Jin frowned as she looked out the window at the dark sky. Before she could warn anyone on the same floor, the dense sound of 'plop plop' came closer. Soon, she could barely see the sky outside.

Lan Jin remembered this familiar sound. When they had been outside in ice skates looking for supplies, a similar weather hit. They had rushed back to the community, and in the end, Lao Gao's clothes were torn by ice drips.

If it was at night…

Lan Jin recalled Brother Zhang saying they needed to move base supplies over the next two days. She did not know if Brother Zhang and his team were okay.

They were fine. This disaster, like the earthquake, came suddenly. The base predicted it and warned them, so people were safe. There were no injuries. But the ice drips were dense and heavy. In less than a minute, the passage they had come through was half blocked. A short while later, it was completely filled.

The worst problem was the lack of protective shields. Almost all entrances to this part of the base were blocked by the ice drip rain. Going under was impossible. Going over was also blocked. Brother Zhang had a headache.

The rain continued for fifteen minutes before finally stopping.

By then, the ice drip had piled over three floors high. Lan Jin looked from afar and felt alarmed.

Qiao Qiao finally let go of Lan Jin's leg. She asked curiously, "Mama, what happened?"

"It's raining."

"Ah, rain big," Qiao Qiao said. She did not fully understand the outside situation, but the sound told her the rain was heavy.

Lan Jin took Qiao Qiao to the bathroom to wash up, then came to the living room. By now, everyone was already gathered there.

Seeing Lan Jin, Lao Gao said quickly, "Sister Lan, with this situation, let's skip the cafeteria. Just eat what we have in the space."

"All right. Pick what you want, I will get it."

After everyone chose two items each, Lan Jin used her mind to place breakfast on the table. No matter how chaotic outside was, breakfast had to be eaten properly.

Just as they began eating, Brother Zhang called. Lao Gao answered and put it on speaker.

"Hello, Brother Zhang. What's up?"

Brother Zhang sounded anxious. "Are you up? Sorry, I know you usually sleep in, but things are bad here. I need your help."

Lao Gao said, "We are up. With all that noise, even if we wanted to sleep, we couldn't."

Brother Zhang asked, "How is it there? You can see, right? I am at the original base, but the passages are all blocked. People cannot get through."

"We can see. Inside the shield is fine, but outside, ice drips are piled everywhere," Lao Gao replied.

Brother Zhang continued, "Yes. We are all trapped inside. The ability team has not recovered. They are clearing it, but the effect is small. Please come help."

Lao Gao looked at the others. Seeing no objections, he agreed immediately. "All right, we are coming."

"Good. The passages will be blocked too. Opening the middle passage is best."

The ice on top was not the main problem. The supplies had not been fully moved. If they cleared one path to move supplies, the rest could wait.

After hanging up, the four quickly ate. Everyone knew this trip could take a long time, so they ate as much as possible.

Once they finished, Qiao Qiao said, "Mama, me go too."

"Why? Watch cartoons at home. Base has WIFI."

Even if the WIFI was not very useful, they could still call each other.

Lan Jin prepared phones for Grandma Ling and Qiao Qiao. After quick registration, the four left the house. They followed the path Brother Zhang had shown yesterday. Feeling the warmth inside the shield was comfortable.

But after passing a door, the warmth faded. A broken passage lay ahead, completely blocked by ice drips.

Many soldiers were already working on clearing it, holding hammers and hitting the ice. The ice was solid. Hitting it required effort and was largely ineffective. Lao Gao asked, "How long have you been hitting? How long to break through?"

A soldier saw the four and said, "We just started. The rain stopped not long ago. With these hammers, breaking through is impossible."

Lao Gao said, "But using fire will take a while too." His ability was fire, but the ice was thick, and even much power would be consumed.

Lan Jin asked, "Can't we use the bomb device?"

The soldier said, "In the middle, maybe. Here, it will not break much and might hurt us."

Lan Jin said, "Use small ones, break a little at a time."

The soldier hesitated, "We must place them inside, or the shield might be damaged."

"Inside," Lan Jin muttered. She transformed a ring into a sharp spike and pierced the ice several times. Once a fist-sized hole formed, she withdrew it. She asked, "Like this? The spike was about two meters. If we put it inside to detonate, the shield won't be damaged, right?"
