"Alright, you're right," Ling Jiang agreed. "Even in the base, no one can force me to do something I don't want. If I don't want to go, I will refuse."
Huang Jinghe quickly said, "Then maybe I should call my parents. This special training, all superhumans must participate. Is there no training at the Capital city base? My parents are insiders. They should know if it's good or not."
"That's a reasonable idea."
…
After a while, Nana finally came out from the back. With all his fur shaved, no matter how anyone looked, it felt strange.
Doctor Gong said with a pained expression, "I said I would do it, who knew he had already started. He didn't leave any fluff, shaved it all."
Yes, at this moment, Nana's entire body was completely bare. You could feel his skin directly everywhere, even on his head.
Lan Jin couldn't bear it. "Nana hasn't seen himself in the mirror, right? I don't think he'd want to see himself like this."
Hearing that, Nana looked around the small mirrors in the clinic. They were so small he could only see his head, so he didn't notice much difference.
Nana became anxious. He paced around Lan Jin. Lan Jin understood. He wanted to go to the straw hut in her space to see a full-length mirror, but there was no way to take him there in public.
After Nana fussed a while, Lan Jin lightly tapped his head. "Stop fussing. Stand still."
Once Lan Jin said that, Nana immediately froze, looking at Lan Jin carefully, not daring to move at all.
This proved that an angry woman was truly terrifying. Even such a big dog could…
Not provoke, not dare to provoke.
…
After saying goodbye to Doctor Gong and the others, they left the clinic. The hospital was not tall. They chose the stairs, but when they reached the corner of the second floor, a piercing alarm blared.
[Alarm, alarm. Mutated creatures attacking. All departments, close doors and windows. Do not go outside…]
The alarm caused doors to slam shut all around. They, having just left the clinic, were trapped midway.
Lao Gao muttered, "Do we go up or down?"
Ling Jiang glanced at him. "We can't just ignore it, can we?"
Then Ling Jiang said to Grandma Ling, "Grandma, you stay here. We'll go down first."
Lan Jin nodded. "Nana, Qiao Qiao, you stay here too. Nana, protect Qiao Qiao, okay?"
Nana felt proud. Even after being scolded, he didn't hold a grudge. He agreed immediately, "Woof."
The four exchanged glances and ran toward the hall.
…
At the base entrance, Brother Zhang had already gathered people, both with and without powers, ready for defense. But when Lan Jin and the others saw the creatures outside, they were stunned.
It was rabbits again, ones they had seen multiple times. But the rabbits were mostly normal, except for one. This rabbit was huge, almost the size of the base gate. The most shocking part was its face.
It had a human face.
A very clear human face. One look made Lan Jin's heart tighten.
What should it be called? Rabbit? Human? Or human-faced rabbit?
Lan Jin had heard legends of human-faced rabbits, but those were small, with only faces vaguely human. Eating one was said to cause the eater to speak only in reverse words, and resolving it was difficult.
Yet this human-faced rabbit in front of her was no legend. First, it stood on two legs. Second, its face was unnervingly human. Maybe it was the result of some failed experiment.
Some thoughts were better left unthought, or they might make one laugh nervously.
But the eyes of this human-faced rabbit seemed full of revenge. Could it really be what she feared?
Seeing the four of them, Brother Zhang finally relaxed. "Its fur is too hard. Bullets won't penetrate. Their powers won't work. You try something else."
Lan Jin was still pondering the conspiracy behind this, not yet reacting to the human-faced rabbit.
She lagged behind. Ling Jiang stepped forward first. Even in the blazing summer, ice powers could function normally. Ling Jiang pressed his hand to the ground, forming ice that froze the rabbits' legs solid.
The small rabbits struggled, but couldn't pull their legs free, and began knocking the ice with their paws.
The huge rabbit's legs were strong. A shake, and it freed its legs, but now it was truly angered.
The human-faced rabbit advanced two steps, shaking the ground. Lan Jin quickly struck it with lightning. The lightning slowed it but could not kill it. It only halted its progress and scorched some of its tough fur.
The rabbit writhed in pain, shrieking. It kneeled strangely, then struggled, gritted its teeth, and stood again, moving toward them. Its face was human, but its eyes were rabbit's. Glowing red, they seemed to radiate pure anger.
Lan Jin realized it hated the base, every person in it. The rabbit had been attacked repeatedly by the base, hence the deep hatred.
Lan Jin wanted no part in the personal grudge between rabbit and base, but she could not just watch people die. She stepped back and struck it again with lightning.
