The soft tapping of keys echoes in the dim room.
A mug of cold tea sits beside a flickering monitor, the screen glowing with strange symbols and open folders labeled things like "CANDIDATE LOG – SOULS UNRESOLVED" and "REWRITE LOOP 47".
A little girl peeks in through the half-open door.
"Daddy, are you still working?", she crawls up to her father's lap, focusing on the screen in front of her.
"Yeah, just… trying to find the right one this time.", her father forces a tired smile, as if he has been doing this for decades.
"Oh! Is this for one of your books?", the daughter looks at him, gleaming eyes with curiosity.
"Something like that. You remember what I told you about stories?", the father asked.
"That's right. You said, we write stories, for some outer d-dimensional beings, and if it pleases them, we can get out of this house forever."
"Yeah, and I am currently trying to find out the perfect soul to reincarnate in one of the stories."
"Daddy, let me choose this time!". the daughter exclaimed.
"Eh?.....Well, it would be fine, I guess. None of the stories I wrote, got approved after all. This time, I would let my cute little daughter choose."
Then, the father opened the candidates' list, with DEAD, written beside their names, and photos, with a little description of their personality and how they had lived their lives.
There were both male and female candidates.
The daughter looked at their faces closely, and not after much thought, she chose a particular icon.
The father's finger hovered over the icon, as it didn't say any particular candidate, but a group of candidates.
As he clicked on it, the details of the group appeared in front of him.

The image flickered.
There was the profile of all the 40 students, presumed to be dead, due to some unknown cause, lines up on the computer screen.
This was definitely not a unique concept, which could please the "higher dimensional beings", but the man had tried so many genres already, that he didn't know what else to do.
He had written 1000s of stories, each to be rejected, with the same reason of being not entertaining enough.
This time, he decided to go with his daughter's choice, and selected all the 40 students to transmigrate.

"It will take some time to load.....let's go sleep then", the father took up his daughter, and went to the bed, leaving the computer screen on, as it would take some time for the transmigration process.
